After first semi-final I can say that Russia was in my oppinion the best. Great song and performance. Serbia, Albania and Georgia also had fine songs. Too bad that Belarus did not qualify, their song was kind of original I must say. Same goes with Moldova.
What about countries that were guaranteed a place in the final? Definitely Australia (a special guest with awesome song!) and Spain.
Too bad Finland did not make it A lot of people emphased the state of band members' health and/or their disabilites, not their talent and music they made. Actually their performance was punk rock in its purest form (and yes, I know what they sang about and it fits the music and punk rock subculture as well). I really enjoyed their (short but with its own charm) performance and they were on my list of artists I'd like to see on Saturday.
I hope that semi-final number 2 is going to be as good as this one. We will see tomorrow anyway. ;P

i like the songs in semi 2 better overall, though the second quarter is a pretty barren wasteland.
As for the autoqualifiers: I love Germany's and the UK's because both are pretty funny to me. (especially the latter: DUBSTEP NEONLIGHT CHARLESTON <3 it's soooo bad ). I also adore Australia's and I like Spain as well... but my favourite is, to my own surprise, AUSTRIA's timeless song. It's one of my personal dark horse picks for the left-handside of the scoreboard.
The only one of these I don't like is France. Drawing off sentiment by singing about WW1 => Eff off, please and thank you. Also, the song's boring.

If it's about me, I judge songs both by checking out official music videos and by watching life performances. Life performances are more important though, as for they show a true talent of participating artists.

I hope they will have a good place and it'd be cool if they won, heh. For me Australia is also this year's dark horse picks.

News, news...
The romanian (representative) band-Voltaj, with the song De La Capat (the song was adressed to the parents that work on other countryes, or for the children that have parents that left the country in search of a job), passed to the SEMI-FINALS
Finally, something great was revealed

Australia is hardly a dark horse. They've been among the favourites since the beginning.

question is if that's because of the song or because it's Australia!

I think the former. Lithuania was okayish, nothing too special.

Lithuania was just mediocre pop, Ireland is downright boring.

So true. She tried to "rise like a phoenix" but she failed miserably. At least she had much pyrotechnic effects. That's something.

The contests are really made for that. Are made for epic fails, and wins. This is because ANY coming person there is sure that will win, but that doesn't mean that he will always win .
That means that this girl from San Marino is just trying. Nothing bad in it, but did she tried to listen to herself before going to Eurovision ?

Crossover of Backstreet Boys and Arab music + golden sandals. Don't you like it?
Our commentator mentioned that Swedish song may be a crib of David Guetta's song "Lovers of the sun". It is similar, indeed...

Sweden has been criticized for that, yes, and to some extent I think it's justified. The has also been talk about the video being copied from some music video, but don't know which. I personally don't find the song outstanding, but he does score high on the man-candy factor, however.
My favorite from tonight is still Norway. Latvia, Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland and Portugal should go through also. Cyprus is on now, also sounds pretty good, at least compared to most of the other entries tonight.

So far I hope that Russia will be this year winner. I also like Latvia, although its song is quite peculiar.

Russia was good but not the best imo. I liked Serbia and Norway better. Oh and Slovenia really has found something there, that's a really good song.

Okay.
No really, Sweden is finally redeeming itself from two years of scandals (probably a conspiracy to save money by not risking to host again too soon). Heroes is unquestionably superior to the rest unless Australia swoops in and steals the victory which would suck the ONE time they enter and we got an otherwise clear winner. Måns seems to think so himself atleast...

I hate that there is no clear winner. No extremely superior song, like Fairytale, Euphoria etc... those were so excellent that even people that don't like Eurovision admitted that as songs they actually rock.
Sweden is pretty good though ;P Russia too.
