Though, how much hours have been spent on that post? Or were it days?

Maybe the problem with this series is that the expectations are so high that developers outsource in the process of trying to achieve more than they can.

If you think about it, heroes 3 was a great game but it build itself upon heroes2, making it in reality a super polished "reboot" of heroes 2 (although not to the level of H7 using H6 models).

Personally I have nothing against reused assets as long as this provides more varieties (and not limitations) to the game.

We can dream of a day when H3 joins H4 in an epic Heroes game.

The complexity of H4 heroes
The customization of H4 cities but with the variety of H3 (7 creatures).
The amount of free map H3 had to offer.
Potentially 3 or 4 more castles (Dwarven fortress, Lizardmen Fortress, Inferno stuffs, Nagas)


H7 let us customize which creature growths more (and that's a good thing), although some choices look obvious to me (like wizards and genies).



Now, I really hope Limbic will improve the game not just to acceptable levels but to great levels.

Games like FFXIV showed that a complete failure can change to a big success, and even though the scale is smaller, I'm looking forward for a two expansions full H7 cicle.

Your dreams may be in vane:
They had the complexity - H5 ToE;
They had the "customization of H4 cities" = H5 ToE alternate upgrades;
In other words, they sure had the foundation you are talking about.
Unfortunately, they also had the "team Erwiny", which decided to flush the foundation down the drain.
(And I don't say anything about Bullshan, as I am perfectly ok with it, as long as it can be ignored - just like in H5)

So, what do we have? Well, we have H6 and H7. Rejoice! (of course H7 has potential, bla, bla, bla - so did H6).

As for what Limbosoft will do with H7 from now on, I hope for the best but refrain from expecting it.

Well, to H7 defense, H5 became very good with TOTE (second expansion). Prior to that it was not so interesting (at least for me) of a game. It felt a step backward from H4 (I'm one of the rare people that actually LIKED H4).

Now the first thing I'd like them to do for H7 is:

POLISH first
BALANCE second
ADD CONTENT third

If they do that, I'd gladly buy expansions and such.

I'd also Pay 20 bucks for a 2d Mode.

Individual ingenuity and creativity can seldom be replaced by large companies. Jon Van Caneghem had all of that. If a small company owned the rights to Heroes, I would have hope, but with a huge company I don't have any hope for any further good games in the series. As large as Ubisoft is, as many competent key people are in there, I only need to look at how the subtitle of a game is designed, and I know what they are doing wrong. Ubisoft as a whole is incompetent. But there have been a few titles from Ubi that I liked, but they failed to finish them, and they were full of bugs. They fixed none.

It seems to me that these bugs are money makers to them, so they have no reason to fix them. Bugs annoy the hell out of people, and when they don't get fixed, they get so annoyed that they buy the next game from Ubi, and they get equally annoyed.

Inside Ubisoft, on the wall is a painting with a text on it "If you fix bugs, our income drops by 50%"

No, there are no such poster, but I would be pleased if there were one.

They don't want to create long lasting golden games. Classic games live forever and that is exactly what Ubisoft doesn't want. Huge companies must create problems that press the customer to come back, because they have many products that they need to sell.

When people hate ubisoft, they react in a way they shouldn't react, they buy a different title, I think ubi is aware of that.

I agree on everything you said there. And I still play H4 often to this day, as well as H3. 5 and 6, less.

The winning formula is still out there. HoMM games = content. You need a lot of artifacts, heroes, monster, spells and map objects to make the game lively and fun. Otherwise, you get a boring, repetetive, predictable game.

For instance, loved HoMM3's artifacts, some of them were really a big "wow" on the map. And there was so many of them...

If you fill up the game with too much stuff it will blow.
I don't even bother to play HOMM3 mods because they are so full of stuff.

I appreciate the nostalgia, but I think glorifying H3 like this is only half the truth. H3 was great, but going back to the H3 skill system after H4/H5 would be a clear step backwards. Same goes for the magic system (as shown in effect by H7). So while I appreciate the quality of the amount of content in H3, I don't buy the premise that the simplicity is a quality.

I agree about the skill system which is richer in H4/H5 but will disagree with the magic system which I think is rather a matter of taste.

I don't see many people playing H4 nowadays. H5 neither, not much. H3, on the other side, I see several tournaments running on steroids. So not so sure about a step back, at least in terms of popularity.
