The topic title sounds like the opening of a joke. So what's the punchline? Something with "the buck[1] stops here"?

The thing is, in America you can be human, have both legs broken, yet you won't receive any help if no private insurance. Now imagine if a deer.

Not so. If you go to any hospital in the US in need of treatment the hospital must treat you even if you can't pay.
The right decision was to put the deer down.

It may have been the right decision but that's not the point. The point is that saving it was never considered an option, or at least that's what I understood. They didn't get a vet or anything, just shot it. After the miracle of entering a hospital. A deer. Come on...

Not considered an option when a horse breaks its leg, either, because... It can't be saved. Heavy bodies, light legs + you can't tell it to not walk on that leg (yeah, you can't walk on those two legs for a few months, mister deer) saved + chance of infection + light bones shatter easily so they can't be reconstructed. Euthanasia was the only humane thing to do, most likely.

Amputation. Prosthesis. Or at least an examination. That deer literally walked into a hospital as if seeking help, for crying out loud. Why not crown that miracle with your best efforts to save rather than to kill? Displaying such inconsideration to an occasion like that, wtf...

Same goes for humans. It's not black / white, tell a human to rest the leg for 1.5 month and you'll see said person will still try to perform as normally as possible, which does result in occasional strain on the injured leg, doesn't mean it will have permanent consequences. It's obviously much more difficult with a deer or a horse, but ultimately it doesn't come down to whether it's possible, but whether it's feasible considering the resources available.. (which I don't like).

I don't know, plenty times people with adequate means to save their horse, also have to get their horse put down when it broke a leg, because "it can't be reconstructed when it's shattered" means that it can't be reconstructed when it's shattered. Amputation is a death sentence, and literally who manufactures prosthetic deer legs and how would a deer with two fake limbs survive predation?

But there's a hole in this statement: the deer didn't walk into a hospital as if seeking help. It walked into the hospital out of coincidence, the same way deer occasionally walk into stores or houses or congested parking lots. Deer are not an endangered or threatened species. In some places in the United States - and many in Canada - there's actually a sprawling population of them due to a lack of predators (humans included). This means either increased costly domestic incidents, or local/national government agencies (as is the case in Ontario province and la belle Quebec) eventually having to spend money from the coffers to hire professional trappers & hunters to continuously keep killing them from season to season.
There isn't a single vegetarian/vegan that has posted in this thread thus far that doesn't eat animal flesh as a matter of conscience. I really don't understand what the whining & sobbing is about. It's not like the deer was mobbed by random marauding bystanders at the hospital and very slowly skinned alive on an altar while the onlookers wailed in sadistic ecstasy. A wild animal with two busted legs walked into a public building and was put down. Act like an adult and stop pretending that this is news.

Who knows. Maybe the deer observed the hospital before, and saw people limping and such going in and out. Animals can still learn a few tricks, and the possibility is there...!!!

I'm guessing it got hit by a car, got two broken legs, had a bunch of feel-good chemicals being pumped through its bloodstream, and stumbled into a public building because of the lights.
