What was the underground railroad?
I just learned its founder was a black man enslaved, who trained himself how to read and write.
I always envisioned it was incorporated by northern white freedom fighters. Leading escaped free blacks into northern terrain.
(I rathernot wiki since it is black history month, and this is tales of epic anyways)

I thought it was a group of people in post-nuclear apocalyptic Boston secretly freeing synths from their creators in a massive underground facility that uses teleportation technology to move around.
My history is fuzzy.

The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-19 century, and used by enslaved African-Americans to escape into free states and Canada. The scheme was assisted by abolitionists and others sympathetic to the cause of the escapees.
Not literally a railroad, the workers (both black and white, free and enslaved) who secretly aided the fugitives are also collectively referred to as the "Underground Railroad".
Various other routes led to Mexico
Etc
This was the stuff of epic.
here is some general wiki
Here is the partially informative wiki.
