Romania national day
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of the Romanian members here a very fun 1st of December, and anticipating a not very cold and harsh winter, hopefully.
Be proud that you're from a country between East and Central Europe that still know how to party despite the rough conditions in the last 70 or so years, I hope

I approve. But it's not history that makes me happy, it's things like music and partying from Romania, you know.
Happy national day, Salamandra and Soparla.

Uuuh... I actually like Codreanu. You don't get to compare him with Hitler, even though he was a bit too much of a radical.
There's simply no comparison. You don't get to compare even Mussolini with Hitler.

I don't know where you get your info, but the ultra nationalist Codreanu worked all his life for creating a totalitarian and anti-semite government.

There are people who condemn Nazi crimes, but praise Stalin and deny the crimes of his(and communist in general) regime.
Many supposed leftists who are in "opposition" and do not hold any positions in the govenrment(Municipality councils, parliament etc..) are like this.
Visit the site of these as I like to call "national socialvatniks" revoliucija.org, and see for yourself. You'll be greeted by images of Stalin, Mao Kim Il Sung and similar experts on genocide.
offtopic aside, Happy festivities for Romanians. Here we usually host patriotic rock concerts, which are awesome.

You put too much emphasis on the fact that a state is totalitarian (which means that the state exerts full power over society "swallowing" social institutitons, providing shaping them according to its own aesthetics) and not so much emphasis on the ideology behind this form of state.
I'm saying totalitarianism in itself is not a so bad idea. I'm not talking about the ideologies behind it, even though I could be called as someone on the "far-right".

Don't play innocent now, your previous post "stone me" shows you were very well aware that it was uncalled. Mvass was right, every subject in this forum create confrontations today, wonder why.
Anyway, this is to add to opening posts that romanian people are proud of a lot of things, places and people, but Codreanu isn't part of that list, no matter what outsiders think about him or his goals.
Because the thing is, you see, the romanians here-at least those enough old- we know how it feels and looks when surviving under totalitarian regime.

So true. I was a child during the most authoritarian days of our 1980 coup and a teenager in the 1990's when its effects didn't wear off, it's almost unbearable when someone who hasn't witnessed it, starts to talk about how it may be not such a bad thing after all.

The failure of liberal democracy leads people to believe in other political proposals. Not to mention, this particular political system should not be imposed worldwide.
I called the stoning thingie because I know I'm likely to be a political minority.
Doesn't matter to me that you're just choosing to express your politico-historical traumas based on your own ideological views. There will always be those who oppose that, there will be always those who prefer authoritarian to liberal societies, including romenians.
And it puzzles me that you somehow blame Codreanu for the communist takeover. So perhaps you should enlighten me a bit in romenian history, since I confess to be an ignorant in that specific matter.

I don't mix oranges with apples. One thing is to be deceived by liberal "democracy" and another is accepting or proposing any authoritarian alternative just because you are bored with political correctness or want a change in your life. Those are not video games which you can save/reload to change outcome.
Is like saying "losing a leg is not that bad, just think about how many books you could read because you can't walk, I like the concept of handicapped", then the guy who really lost a leg is shocked by your claim, then you just say "hey you just express a physical trauma based on your suffering, I still think losing a leg should be a great thing, for a change.".
Well, have a trip in North Korea, stay one year then come back -in one piece if possible- and we discuss.

Neo-fascism is rather popular at certain parts of Europe at the moment. Heck scrap that, it is gaining momentum in USA as well, with Trump being the most likely Republican candidate. *shrugs*

Fascism and communism existed here... and they may seem attractive to someone who does not realise all the implications, now they are as good as dead for Romania. The question is between liberal democracy and social democracy, both with a unique flavour left over from the old tovarasi.
The only old flag I want to remember is this one:
