Help I suck
Hello.
I play this awesome game but I suck. I watched several youtube videos and try to emulate how they play but when I try to play I almost always get destroyed by the AI.
Its like the AI is much better than when I'm playing.
Some help please?
ps. heroes3.tv was in russian

What do you meet and when? I.e. what week/month is it, what does the AI typically have in army and hero stat and what do you typically have?
The AI has tons of faults that is usually easy to exploit, often getting one spell or some strong fast units or reaching some stat points is enough to win without contest.

This thread is better for what I said.
IMO at your level you shouldn't try to learn by watching videos, and very good players will do moves you won't be able to grasp. I would suggest you play the campaigns first, and for scenarios maybe don't go straight at Impossible difficulty if you're a beginner, get a good grip on the mechanics at first.
Play casual at horse difficulty, just enjoy, then once you start to have things going, increase to tower, then queen, then king. Once AI represents no trouble, come and ask again, it will be more easy for people here to help you if you're more specific.

For beginners I always suggest that they first go for Capitol!
You can buy 1 creature dwelling in first week but other are the reguired: Mage Guild, Town Hall, Market Place, Blacksmith, Citadel, Castle and Capitol.
After that, all the creature dwellings and Resource silo (if it gives different than wood/ore) It's not hard to get everything in end of week 2 or atleast at end week 3 you should have: Capitol, all creature dwellings (not upgraded), all population modifiers (eg Griffin Bastions etc.)
Whit this build-up you can't lose to CPU if you play it safe. Fast for money and creatures. When you have mastered ALL THESE you can alternate the build.

Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.

Agreed with Homer, and you also need to choose the best hero for your style. Practice makes perfect against AI.

Careful, a danger much more threatening than the AI lurks in this place! Please don't listen to these guys, they all have ulterior motives! They want to steal your pants and wallet.

Maybe you're not in the best position for this.
phoenix4ever said: I tend to build Capitol earlier on higher diffulty settings as you start with few/no money and really could use some.
Difference is you weren't trying to help a noob, you were serious. Btw, do you still think Fortress and Stronghold are weak?
So why don't you go study how to hex edit instead of seeking constant attention here, and you will eventually by doing so stop posting ever two posts about what you would like others to do for you.

I think it was even mentioned those Heroes Chronicles were for those that found Heroes III too difficult. So maybe that's a good starting point - if you have it, that is.

Seriously Galaad what is your problem? What did I ever do to you?
Now I'm not even allowed to have a laugh around here?
My opinion on the Tactics skill has changed since that topic, I almost always go for the Tactics skill now.
And whether you should go for Capitol or creatures depends on a lot of things and for your information I play on 200%.

Chronicles are enjoyable and easy for the most part. But I still think RoE campaigns are better put together for a starter.
However, I would also suugest simply trying more on single scenario using our tips.

I've watched game destroyer, meridian, boardgamergirls videos when they play SoD After the amulet scenario. They are not bothered by the AI so much and the middle castle is almost always empty.
When I play I get hassled by the AI much sooner than those guys. And I encounter an army much larger than mine so I get destroyed.
Its like its a harder difficulty when I play than when above mentioned people play.

I'm first seeing enemies maybe 2 weeks in the scenario and they usually come to fight me around 1 month. They tend to have alot of spells and spell points and more creatures than me.
I have leveled up Gem to have 5 in spell power and 6 in spell points.
I also have many spells from mage guild 3 as the scenario has a mage guild limit of 3.
It depends on what I have created but maybe around 118 centaurs, 80 grand elves, 12 pegasi and some dendroids.

I don't know the scenario you describe, so my advice may not apply if the map is very special. Also sorry if this sound rude.
Get creatures as fast as you can, 12 pegasi and some dendroids after week 4 is extremely little. Even if you find no other town, if you hardly visit any map objects, you should still be able to have 3-5 dragons at this time at the very least.
Your hero with 5 in spell power and 6 i knowledge is also incredible weak. I'd imagine even the AI can muster better heroes after week 4. Remember to visit map objects that boosts stat points, as well as gain stat points from artifacts.
Your 118 centaurs and 80 GE should be enough to hold the AI at bay though, just split them up so you've 80 GE and 113/1/1/1/1/1 centaurs , this way your GE won't be reached easily, but they could really use the support of a better hero.
Only going for centaurs and GE can however be plenty to win, but you can't allow the AI to build up then, see if you can't take his town week 1 or early week 2.
If that's not how you want to play it, then buy a lot of heroes the first day, you don't really need chaining, so just collect your army with one hero and let him make the fights, but don't take fights you aren't confident in.. btw. there's no shame in saving and reloading if you don't have a clue how strong your units are or what they're capable of before taking a fight. If you aren't picky, you can easily have ~50/20 in centaurs/elves from the very start of the game, and if you restart a lot, you can have plenty more. You can then let the other heroes collect items around the map, main objective is to collect gold, but with rampart you also want your wood mine and collect wood, from then on crystals and ore, but in general just get all the gold and all the creature banks you can get early. Then at week 2 or 3 you build your dragons and the game becomes much easier.
Also remember to make sure your main hero has good stats, knowledge isn't that important, but it's up to you if you focus on magic or might, though I'd personally pick might, you'll see it'll also compliment your creatures tremendously, but if you play campaigns, magic might be a better pick. Also I don't think gem is a good pick for a main hero, if you can't find a good one later, maphela, thorgrim, iver and kyrre have more to offer than gem. Anyway I imagine it's more important that you get stat points from artifacts and map objects.
Strong hero and early level 7 units makes the AI very very easy. Once you've defeated his first great army on a hero with ~8 in average in all stats, he won't recover unless you allow him. It doesn't matter if there's a lot more you could do for more effective creeping, since the AI won't stand a chance in any case. Just remember against humans, what I just described is far from enough for anything but a quick loss unless you're extremely lucky.

I'm not exactly sure about the numbers.
The scenario I have trouble with is connected to previous scenario and Gem is carried over from that scenario. She is limited to lvl 10 in the first and lvl 15 in the second. So I leveled Gem up as best as I could.

I suggest playing single scenarios first. When you grasp how to build/scout/battle and win games fast, then campaings.
It's best you find you'r own play style but one HUGE MISTAKE you should avoid is wasting turns in your own town. I see this same mistake, so often when I play hotseat games against my nooby heroes friends. Don't skip multiple turns in you'r town, it's simply just terrible "wrong".
If considered a game vs AI, Heroes 3 is deffinetly not a hard game! Sure you need to dig in but that's the fun of it. None of us have born perfect, it's practice what makes us that.. or close enough.
Have fun at learning to play this awesome game

Isn't that the first SoD campaign then? I'd not recommend going for those as I believe they're the most difficult campaigns of the series..
In any case, after the AI is no longer a threat, get max level, max stat boosters, and most importantly get the best spells available in the particular scenario, you want stuff like dd, fly, town portal, etc. as fast as possible.
Which reminds me, for secondary skills, try to see if you can't get air, wisdom, earth, logistics, offense and armorer at least.

Yes its the first campaign and second scenario. The first scenario I got some help from watching a youtube video when Meridian is playing.
I've played Restoration of Erathia before and most maps wasnt that hard although they were often played at easy, normal.
From playing RoE I felt more confident but playing SoD makes me feel like the noob I probably am

I suggest that you try to improve on single-player, and then have another go at SoD campaigns.
