Compared to the other haven units, how much you like to use it while playing with haven army. How much useful you is the unit for you.
I have chosen a cuirassier for example because if I use my haven tactics - legionnaire surronded by all friendly units -, I have usually no place left for cuirassier so it is usually my first killed unit 
I have also thought about dire wolf but it can be used as the quick one punch damage dealer at least.

Why would you want your horsies to tank near your sentinels? They are meant to charge. And besides, the first to die should be the wolfies.

Yeah - wolfies are in the army as well. You're right, they usually die at first, I considered them to be already dead 
Speaking about cuirassiers, I simply do not need such a charging unit, or I need it less than the rest of the units in my army.

I'll go with the pikemen since they're too slow and that passive is dumb as snow. I only use the Unupgraded version at the start. Luckily this game is so easy you can just completely neglect one or two units and still win with no problem.

In pvp staying in formation can be viable if u are a mage v might hero.
