Search for the Storm Hammer (OOC)
The Search for the Storm Hammer.
The Second Age of Heroes began with turmoils and pestilences.
Forty years have passed since the Brotherhood of the Tattered Banner marched to the north to retrieve the Goblet of Manara. Six years after the successful quest, the War for the North raged on, ending after six more years of bloodshed it was quelled, the followers of the dark god Jagnir once more driven back to where they came from, their hordes of demons banished to the void which gave birth to them.
Life resumed to a normal pace in the waking years. Except for one tiny detail. More and more adventurers arose to explore the North and to see what the Gemstone Cities have to offer, as well as to seek new Godly Relics, and other artefacts of old.
The Brotherhood remained in the Duchy of North Shandra, now part of the Kingdom of Merinanth, guarding the passage to the north, as well as the Duchy itself. Having swollen in size over the last few decades, the Last Free Company of the South, was restored to the formidable military power that it once was.
After the fires of the War for the North receded, Dragomir the Black, captain of the Brotherhood and patriarch of House Dragonheart, with the support of the throne of Merinanth and House Raddwil has assumed the mantle as the Grand Duke of North Shandra, after the passing of the previous ruler, a sorceress of an unknown mage clan, referred to only as the Duchess.
In the years after the war, the Brotherhood focused of strengthening the northern border of Merinanth, safeguarding the passageway to the North and the Gemstone Cities.
Recently however, a letter from an old acquaintance thought long dead had reached the Brotherhood. Brann Goldbeard, brother of the Company’s veteran Magnus, had called for aid, claiming he has finally found the resting place of the Malus of Alberich, another of the Godly Relics, but something which wasn’t described in any bigger detail was preventing the dwarven adventurer from retrieving the sacred artefact of his kin. In the letter, Brann requested only a “few dozen of yer best lads to meet him in the city of Onyx”. One of the first to volunteer was Magnus, eager to meet his brother after all these long years. Knowing the eagerness for adventure among the ranks of his brothers in arms, Dragomir was confident that there would be more than enough volunteers to embark on this adventure. Being too old to make the journey himself, Dragomir requested that his son would go in his stead, not as much as to prove himself, but more as to watch the back of an old friend.
with such premise begins the second RP in my set world, which Quest For the Goblet took Place. Thought of turning the collection of short stories that I'm writing up into an RP, but most of the plot is basically holding against a siege, and that would not make a fun forum RP game.
For more info on the world, the noobs that are interested should click here and read up a bit, to get a general idea of the world. Please don't go TL;DR. I don't want to deal with another Husham.
Some more info:
*The North:
After the War For the North, trade and such has been opened up, and caravans travel very frequently through the mountain passes. There are no kingdoms in the north, but a collections of Free City-States, which are collectivelly known as The Gemstone Cities. The cities themselves are sitting on foundations of cities that have been originally built by the elves. Each of them has varying degree of surviving and intact elven architecture. Each city, as the name implies, is named after a specific gemstone. These are(in no specific order):
Beryl - The first large city that travelers from North Shandra encounter.
Jade - The first city for those that come from the pass in Kythay.
Onyx - The northernmost city, it is the birthplace of the Brotherhood of the Tattered Banner.
Sapphire - A thriving port town on the west coast of the continent. Some say, that some ships from Sapphire reached a new continent in the west.
Amethyst - The richest of the Gemstone Cities.
Lazuli - Another port city, this one is on the eastern coast.
Opal - The city found in the northeast, that has maintained the highest percentage of elven buildings.
Garnet - A city built on a temple complex to the Elven Goddess Calista.
Topaz - The smallest of the Gemstone Cities, standing in a place of an ancient elven fortress.
Jasper - The city with the least amount of elven architecture in it.
Emerald - The city from which the most Free Companies were formed.
Diamond - The siege of this city was the turning point of the War For the North. Although the Brotherhood and it's allies were victoriuos, the city itself was destroyed completely from all the fighting between the sorcerers present in both armies. Prior to that, it was the biggest, and most wealthy of the Gemstone Cities.
All of the Gemstone cities are rich merchant hubs, specialising in many different types of merchandise. And no, there are no inhabitants with elven blood. Read the first game's thread to know why.
Several other Free Companies roam the Northern lands.
Some of them are:
The Seventh Sons - Currently protecting the City of Beryl
Silver Gryphons - Same as above.
Both of these companies are allied with the Brotherhood. Besides these two, there are another nine companies in service to various Gemstone Cities, but I will not go into greater detail of them, since we may not meet them at all. Or maybe we will.
* Some other stuff to know about:
Firearms: Matchlock and Wheellock pistols and muskets. former is cheaper than the latter.
Mellee weapons: Late medieval/rennaisance stuff. most common swords are rapier class weapons, but you can have pretty much anything from that time period.
* New Race
Dryads. Daughters of the forest. They excell at ranged combat, favouring bows, but are quick and agile in close quarters combat as well. Their sorceresses use magic in a similar way that the druids of Clan Therium use (i.e. controlling the nature, like entangling their enemies in roots and so forth). They have olive toned skin, and can live for several centuries. And average Dryad is up to 1,75m tall.
Dryads are born most oftenly from a human father and a dryad mother. There are no dryad males. If from such a union a boy is born, he's a normal human boy, but can live a tad more than normal humans(up to about 120 years, he still ages like a normal human would though). Usually the dryad abandons the baby boy, leaving him in a wicker cradle by the doors of a normal human family. A dryad will never abandon her daughters in any instances. The father is excluded from raising the child(since many of them were passing travelers anyways)
(In essence, their lifestyle has a lot similarities to the dryads from the Witcher books, although with much less feminacism.)
* Your characters
The PCs(Player characters) are members of the Brotherhood of the Tattered Banner, what’s left of it anyway. There are a few restrictions when it comes to your PC in this game. Races you can play as are: Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, Dryads(female only) and Halfbreeds(Half-orc, and Half-giant). They can be either veterans or just recently joined members of the company. Doesn’t matter.
Your “toon” can be of almost almost any class. The Brotherhood does not welcome necromancers, demonologists and other such nasty things. Basically everything which has to do with undead/demons is not fit to be a member of the Free Company.
You also cannot be an elf who somehow miraculously escaped The Culling. The genocide consumed 110% of elven population. So yeah. No elves.
Not the most powerful when it comes to spells/abilities. Can have weapons/armor pieces forged during the First Age of Heroes, but also nothing to insanely powerful. Above average would be the closest description for that.
Your basic RP rules(no powerplay, no autoing other PCs without permission and so on, you all know perfectly well) also apply.
People that participated
Character sheet can be as given below.
Name: Domerth of House Dragonheart, Called the Young Dragon.
Race: Human
Age: 28
Appearance: Most consider him to be near identical to Dragomir when he was his age. Domerth wears his long black hair in a braid, and has blue eyes. He usually sports a 5 o'clock shadow. Has a scar on his right cheek. Domerth is 1,80m tall. He likes to wear black clothing with blackened dwarven steel armor pieces(cuirass, arm and leg protection, armored boots). aside from armor he wears a black leather coat, silken shirt, and cotton pants. on his belt buckle is the sigil of House Dragonheart.
Personality: Domerth by initial appearance is a calm and collected man. He has inherited his fathers sense of loyalty and valor in combat as well.
Weapons: Domerth has a brace of wheellock pistols(three in total), a large dwarven steel battle axe, and a dwarven steel dagger.
Skills: Domerth excells in various fighting styles. Other than that he has been taught the traits that any young lord should know. He's well versed in diplomacy and war tactics as well.
Background: Domerth is the eldest son of Dragomir The Black, born shortly before the War for the North ended. Domerth grew up surrounded by the Brotherhood, learning from them how to fight, as well as being tutored in politics and etiquette by some of the best scholars that the duchy had to offer. But it wasn't always a nice and peaceful life for him. When Domerth reached nineteen years of age, the latest in many of North Shandran uprisings erupted. Feeling old and not fit anymore to lead his troops in combat directly, Dragomir placed his son in charge. It wasn't without loses however, but Domerth held his ground and along with the rest of the Brotherhood held the rebellous lords at bay long enough for the king's army to relieve them. It was that in this rebellion that Domerth got his first serious scar. Now, Domerth strives to achieve the goals that have been set before him. To uphold the name of his House, and that of the Brotherhood as well.
Name: Magnus Goldbeard of the Iron Clan
Race: Dwarf
Age: 210(Which is a middle age for a dwarf, a human equivalent to that would be around 50 years old)
Appearance: Golden color hair and beard, neatly kept. There is signs of graying in his hair as of now. About 140cm tall(Magnus is amongst the tallest dwarves) The beard is tied into two braids. Wearns a simple cuirass over a bleached linen shirt, leather pants and metal plated leather boots. On top of his cuirass, wears a tabard with his clan’s heraldry(two crossed hammers and an anvil in a field of azure), and a brown leather cloak with a hood. Has a wineskin at him for most of the time, hanging from his belt.
Personality: likes his drink. The dwarf is notorious for drinking a month’s supply of booze overnight. And has a voracious appetite. Othervise is loyal to the company and will watch his comrade’s backs when such a need arises. Sometimes can be grumpy and complain a lot. By the outsiders can be seen as only a glutton and a drunk, but that is just a lousy first impression he gives out.
Weapons: has a two handed dwarven Warhammer with him for doing most of his combat, also owns a rondel, a kythayan made repeating crossbow and a hunting cleaver with a set of meat trimming knives. The latter items are used for hunting. The crossbow is also used as a ranged combat weapon.
Skills: Hunting is his main skill, and not only for game beasts. Magnus can sniff out hidden caches of wealth, find hidden passages and other similar things. How does he do it, no one really knows. Magnus says that it’s his family’s trait, and of such is a well guarded secret. Magnus is also an able smith, but for the best outcome of his work he needs a decent forge and anvil on a “steady ground”, or in other words a blacksmith’s workshop. He can do field repairs for armor and weapons, however he usually complains about work conditions a bloody lot.
Background: Born into the Goldbeard family belonging to the one of the richest of Dwarven Clans, brought a jolly youth to Magnus, but was overshadowed by the fact that he was the youngest of the seven children of Ragnar Goldbeard, owner of several mines and smelteries, and the younger brother of the Clan’s Thane, Loghaire Goldbeard. Magnus took the most out of that. When he wasn’t learning the trade of the metalsmith or prowled the mountain passes for game, he drank. He drank more and more and eventually Magnus started drinking so much that no tavern in an around the Steelwall Range would serve him alcohol. Because he wouldn’t pay up, provoke brawls and other nasty business. After finishing his studies at one of his Clan’s best blacksmiths, Magnus packed his belongings and left to see the world. Before signing the contract with the Brotherhood of the Tattered Banner he tried out several jobs. A poacher hunter for one of duchies in Merinanth. An armorer for the mercenary forces of the Miner’s Guild. After his natural talent to find deposits of riches was discovered by one of the Guild’s higher officials, he was working as a prospector for the guild. The mining town of Mage Rock, famous for it’s emeralds was founded thanks to the dwarf. Magnus joined the Last Free Company 20 years prior the campaign in Mikaya. Despite his personality flaws he is a valuable asset to the Brotherhood, due to his smithing ability and uncovering an occasional smuggler’s cache of goods and loot or some buried treasure. Time in the company has set him straight a bit, as he isn’t the troublemaker he was in his youth. He still drinks a lot though. During the War in The North, Magnus saw plenty of action and was injured several times. As he recovered, he continued to be a part of the Brotherhood, even mentoring the son of his captain and best friend.

Jesus effing christ.
Hushams character makes me wanna go do bad, politically incorrect things to all kinds of minorities, just to vent out my rage.
Yes, your previous performance is the reason why hushy. And if you keep making characters over and over, I'll ask the mods to reward you with a penalty.
That was one of the most epic fails ever:
"how to prove that I'm awesome to the group? Oh, I know, I'll steal a horse!" In a Medieval Fantasy RP. Anyone with half functioning brain knows that horse theft was one of the major felonies, nearly up until the early XXth century. It was such a sever offense, that most horsethieves didn't even survived to hear a "legit" trial. Most were hanged on spot.
Back then I really wanted to squeeze in a lynching scene, where Husham's "valorous" knight gets hanged by a mob of angry hobbits. Honestly, that was the idea.
From now on, I will accept only serious char sheets. Thank you.

Here's a character for this run.
Name: Alder Wolf
Race: Human
Age: Unknown
Appearance: Alder, while not overly huge, seems to be towering over other men. With black eyes and a stern look on his face, he appears even more intimidating.
His attire consists of a dark grey suede armor and a black cloak. On his left hand, he wears a hardened leather gauntlet with three short, steel claws embeded on top of it so that when he contracts his fingers, they act as a surprise weapon. Alder's main arm is an ornate chained sickle.
//personality, bio, and skills I decided not to add, because, well, all of it will be displayed in the game, sooner or later.
Just one question - can I have him join the Brotherhood after we start? I imagined him as a mysterious wanderer that ends up stumbling upon the company as he travels through North Shandra. Of course, there's a story behind him, and a very dark past that he is trying to get away from.

Oh I'm still interested. won't be able to update as often but that shouldn't matter a huge deal.
I'll be back with a character within the day.
EDIT:
Name: Brynhildr
Race: Dryad
Age: 38
Appearence: Tall (1,88) and muscular, she makes for a stark contrast to most of her Kin. Her dark skin is covered in scars and a particularly big one goes across her face over her right eye. 2 branches reaches out from her forehead that would remind most of a pair of horns, the left one with three branches and the right one with four (if this is something dryads can have). while not particularly thick they can still be used for headbutting. She wears a wild mix of armours with a platemail chest piece with a fur mantle to scale greaves and leather armguard. while mostly looking like a bit of a mess, it does the job well.
Personality: brash, aggressive and violent. joined the brotherhood as it would get her into plenty of "good scraps" and likes nothing more than to put people into the dirt. seeks any excuse to start a fight and it's advised to stay out of her way if none has been had in a while, something the brotherhood has learned with time. she does, as all dryads, have a large respect for nature and will if possible avoid damaging it. has a bit of a tick of annoyingly snap her head at times as if trying to get rid of an annoying fly or getting sudden migraine.
weapons: A long hafted axe and a wooden round shield.
skills: first and foremost a fighter and she is damn good at it. she takes any chance to win and "honour" is something to be frowned upon. she also makes, as all dryads, a good tracker and survivalist and don't mind spending a few nights in the forest. Also has a berserker rage which makes her unable to stop fighting for a long time and allows her to ignore any pain and almost any injuries but looses self control and occasionally forgets who is friend or foe.
Background: Exactly who she is and where's she's from is something she keeps a closely guarded secret and non one knows much about her past. Even so, it's not something she seemingly cares about: she's all about the now and current and she intends to live it to the fullest.

I'll join, too.
Name: Larkas
Race: Half-orc
Age: 21
Appearance: Larkas is a man with darker skin and has messy black hair and brown eyes. He wears a leather jacket, some brown tattered pants and black boots and gloves. Larkas also wears a red scarf, which he sometimes wears around his mouth to become silent. He also wears a key around his neck, and keeps a set of lockpicks in his jacket.
Skills: From locking and unlocking doors and containers, through stealth-stalking and setting all kinds of traps to pick-pocketing; Larkas is a skilled thief. He's also proficient with throwing weapons, since he used to throw stuff for fun at an early age.
Weapons: a dagger and some throwing knives.
Personality: Larkas has always gotten into all kinds of trouble. Since he is rather poor, Larkas distrusts nobles and other rich people, believing they are "a blight to the society". While not doing thievery, he usually rests by drinking tankards of beer. Since he has no magical powers, Larkas always admires that shiny magic the wizards cast.
Biography: Larkas was born in Manaar, where he lived with his mother. His father, an orc, died before Larkas was born. Larkas felt like his mother didn't want him to find more about it. When he confronted her, she exclaimed his father had a past she wanted to forget.
Still, Larkas' mother taught her son to become a skilled thief. Larkas took up the training, ever since a "spoiled brat" ridiculed him for being poor. Together, along with other poor families, Larkas and his mother banded up and created a local thieves' guild. They lived an exciting life, having fun in stealing food from the market or breaking into snobby, rich people's houses. Larkas was good at the profession, too. He felt the rich had too much money that was better distributed among the commons.
However, one day, Larkas' mother was caught stealing. After she was imprisoned, Larkas visited his mother and was given a key that would unlock a vault and shed some light about her and his father's past. A day later, Larkas' mother was executed. Knowing the he could be easily be executed as well, Larkas left the guild and went out of the city. A few days later, after hearing about the Brotherhood, he went to join it. He felt he had a chance of finding the vault, and to stay away from the mob.

Alias – ’Elepaio
Race – Neburan Human
Age – around 96
Appearance – ‘Elepaio wears a white shirt, blueish pants, and brown leather boots. She wears a faded, hoodless, red cloak over that with the neck collar folded. On her head, she wears a similarly faded, red cavalier hat with a large, bright, white feather sticking out. Her brown hair is waist length and she takes meticulous care if it. She has amber eyes and is 1.62m tall.
Belongings – She has a Kris like sword and an obsidian dagger she made herself. In her satchel, she has a telescope, two books, her journal, a brush, a small mirror, and a smaller satchel filled with perfume and hair oil. On her belt with her blades she carries vials of assorted burning oils.
Skills – She is an Agnirri mage and as such specializes in fire magic. Aside from that, she has some chemical knowledge and has passible sword skills. Also, and perhaps irrelevantly, she knows how to paint rather well.
Bio – ‘Elepaio was born in an insignificant little town on one of Neburu’s small islands. Her parents were fishers and were far from wealthy. Despite this, ‘Elepaio never suffered any great want, never suffered any real hardship, and never would. Her magical talents were discovered when she was in early adolescence by a recruiter staying at her town after she accidently almost burned a house down. She was then, shortly afterwards, taken to Pyross for training. She stayed in Pyross most of her life, first as a student, then as a teacher. Aside from a short stint as a recruiter or to see her family she never even left its confines.
Eventually, she decided she wanted to see something other than the familiar. Most of her friends and siblings had passed, and while she loved to share her experience with her nephews and nieces as well as their children; she believed it was the perfect time to have some change. She wandered for years through Neburu, Emerdina, and Merinanth. She traveled with an acting troupe through Merinanth using her magic to entertain crowds, but she left them somewhere near North Shandra 10 years ago where she joined the Tattered Banner. She has been with them ever since.
Personality – ‘Elepaio is a carefree and cheerful person. Indeed, it is hard to get her to take just about anything seriously at all. Any serious dilemma or question will usually be met by a cheeky, supremely irreverent retort. She also has a deep love of art, which often leads her to manifest her art in as bright and colourful a conflagration as she can conjure.

Name: Hahn Namura
Race: Human
Age: 23
Class : Monk
Appearance: A bald blue eyed man. He wears simple brown robes, and a backpack for meger rations. He is rather unremarkable, average height and slim, athletic. If not for his bald head, which appears by choice rather then nature, he would easily be lost in a crowd. He does have a hood that he can pull up, but only does so in towns.
Personality: Quiet and oathbound to a life of poverty, he is generous and tends to care for the homeless, sick, or infirm. Though not quick to trust others, he has a zen like nature which is endering to a lot of people. He prefers not to fight, but will stand up for his friends or innocents without hesitation.
Weapons: Carries no weapons, for his feet and fist are weapons.
Skills: Though trained in just about every martial arts, he prefers Kung fu, being defensive in nature. He is most known for a series of quick strikes with his hands. ((If anybody knows about a monk they get flurry of blows which allows multiple hits, and their hands become more damaging as they increase in level.. even able to act as magical weapons at higher level)). He can meditate to slow and counter poisons and disease.
Background
He does not know his family, having been raised by a monastery all his life where his body was honed into a fighting machine. Several years ago, however, he was sent on his 'walkabout', to find his purpose in life. Which was when he joined the brotherhood. Until recently he has been sent on humanitarian missions..to bring food to places that have been robbed or attacked .. .things like that.

Name: John the Giant
Race: Half-Giant
Age: 93
Appearance: Black long hair and bushy beard, both lush but hardly taken care of. About 270cm tall. Clothes include brown leather pants, greenish-brown shirt and soft leather boots. He also has several different sets of armor that he puts on before a battle, including a horned helmet made for him by Magnus.
Personality: Polite and friendly. Over the years he became more accustomed to social interaction and does not shy away from people anymore. Fiercely protective of all the members of the Brotherhood which he views as his only real family.
Weapons: His main weapon is a human-sized oaken club with metal spikes. Carries a big rectangular wooden shield on his back. He still has his Piecemaker - a siege weapon that fires a burst of crossbow bolts which shatter mid-flight and shower the enemy with high velocity wooden shrapnel. Also carries a few smaller (for him) weapons and tools for carving wood and making traps.
Skills: John is a man of the forest. He knows how to handle wood, use herbs for both healing and food, follow tracks (although smaller animals give him trouble), make traps etc. In addition to that he became one the main tacticians of the Brotherhood.
Background: John the Giant was born to a human woman in a small village in the forests of Merinath. It is unknown what kind of relationship did that woman have with a giant, but he was never seen or heard from since then. Neither was he present when the woman died giving birth to their son. The villagers decided to raise her child together. Some did it out of sympathy to the baby, some out of respect to his mother, but mostly they all did it because they afraid that one day the boy's father will come back and wreck vengeance upon them should they let his child die. They named the boy John, never bothering with a last name for the orphan. And while John never really suffered, there was no love and affection in his life either. He spent most of his time alone, usually walking around the forest. When he reached the age of 13 he was as big and strong as any adult in the village and left to seek his fortune elsewhere. His strength provided him a variety of job opportunities, ranging from builder to escort to hired muscle, all of which he took without any regrets. He traveled the land learning something new everywhere he went. He soon realized that he was more intelligent than most people. He did not, however, know how to use it to his advantage, as the only thing he could not learn was proper social interaction. The fact that he soon towered above anyone he talked to did not help matters either. So, he continued his journey, amassing knowledge along the way. He learned to provide for himself in the forest and to carve weapons and other items out of wood. At some point in time he came upon the Brotherhood of the Tattered Banner. He joined at first for the same reason he took any other job: to make some money and move on. However, a few years after he joined the Brotherhood was contracted to quell the Mikayan rebellion. John fought along side others in that brutal war, and despite himself began to feel a genuine bond forming with his comrades. What was even more surprising for him was the fact that they regarded him as any other member of the Brotherhood. When the war was over, John realized that what remained of the Brotherhood was the closest thing to a family he ever had and decided to stay there for good.
During the Quest for Goblet John continued to better himself. Already a veteran when they set off, by the end of the journey he was one of its highest ranking members. His intellect, knowledge and experience gained in the North made a formidable tactician. After the expedition, due to the growth of the Brotherhood of the Tattered Banner, he remained mostly at the company's headquarters assigning missions, dealing with paperwork and overseeing the operations. Still, when an especially dangerous or important mission would present itself, John would join his comrades and remind everyone why it is not a good idea to piss off a company with a well-trained and experienced half-giant.
