Search for the Stormhammer (IC)
The City of Kunn, capital of North Shandra.
The early spring had the plants already budding sprouts, and the orchards surrounding the city were teeming with workers, going on last moment maintenance of the vast vineyards and fruit orchards of the duchy.
There was a slight commotion in the city as well, as a detachment of The Brotherhood Of the Tattered Banner was to be sent on a mission to the North, to aid the dwarven adventurer Brann Goldbeard in his search for the Malus of Alberich, one of the godly relics, from the Golden Age.
The hammer, it is said, is a tool of both creation and destruction. In the hands of a master smith it can shape metal into items of unparalleled quality, bearing magical enchantments as well. In a hands of a warrior, it rains down untold destruction on the wielder's foes.
Such are the legends fortold on the dwarven runestones in the halls of the Steelwall clans. How much truth is in them, no one knows, but indeed, the hammer is one of the relics sought after by various heroes and adventurers of the land.
Today was a day of festivities. A celebration was held in honor of the Brotherhood, which's sons and daughters would embark on yet another epic quest.
Dragomir the Black, the captain of the Brotherhood, and now Duke of North Shandra was observing the band of brothers(and sisters) who will travel northwards, past the majestic Gemstone Cities, to once more delve into the relic hunt. Once, when he was young and able, he marched his company forth, to bring back the Goblet of Manara. Now, he must pass the torch to his son. Though he has aged, and the time had dyed his once black hair silver, Dragomir still stood tall and proud, as if he was still young.
- You know. - Dragomir said. - I envy you friends - He addressed John and Magnus. - To once more embark on such a quest. It's breathtaking. For me- He chuckled - The last adventure for me was the War. I wish you the best of luck in this quest. Parkkun's aid onto you.
After giving his blessing, Dragomir invited Domerth over, to have a private conversation.
They sat in Dragomir's chamber. Dragomir's sword, Wyrm's Fury was hanged on the wall, over the fireplace.
- My son. - He began. - I've seen you grow into a man. A great leader. A fierce warrior, much like me, when I was your age. A loyal companion to your brothers. I trust you to uphold the honor of the Brotherhood in this endeavour. You and your companions for this journey have my most sincere blessings. I wish you the best. May you all return to the Steelwall range with the prized relic.
- I will do my best.- Domerth replied.
- I know you will. Me and your mother had raised you well. Heed the counsel that John and Magnus give you. Their wisdom served me well over the years, they will not fail you.
- I will father. They are the best mentors I had.
- Just one more thing. - Dragomir said smiling.- Make sure Halfman stays out of trouble in the brothels of the Gemstone cities.
Domerth laughed along side his father.
- I make so solid promises, but I will try.
- You do that. Once you return, Wyrm's Fury- Dragomir looked at the sword. The eldricht amber runes on the sword's hilt and pommel glowed with a very dim light.
- The runes have been glowing like that ever since the War for The North was over.
- Are you worried father?
- A little bit, yes. You see my son, the runes of the sword glew ever brighter if danger was nearby. in my youth, they only warned of a threat near me, indicating an ambush, or approaching danger. Now I think it tries to warn of a more... vast threat. The Cult has not been eradicated completely. What they are plotting is beyond me.
- Come any threat, we will handle it. - Domerth said.
- I know you will. The combat prowess of the Brotherhood is not one to be underestimated. Remember to pick your fights well.
- I will father.
The father and son conversation was ended with the two hugging each other.
After bidding final farewell's with the rest of the family, Domerth went outside to join his comrades. Supplies were ready and mounted on horses and in few wagons, and all of the people going on this quest were accounted for. It was time to leave through the city gates and go into the vast North.

John took in the sight of the adventuring party. There was a tingle in his heart, an excitement he didn't know he was missing.
"I didn't think I'll be here again, Magnus. Marching forth into the North in search of a godly relic with you beside me, old friend."
John was wearing the horned helmet Magnus made him forty years ago. It was a battle helm, but there was something both nostalgic and symbolic in starting their journey with it on.

"Never look back." Larkas remembered these words from his mother. He felt like he could've inherited the position of the guildmaster, after his mother died. However, that would also make him the mastermind of the crimes done in Manaar.
Instead, he looks around. It's been two days since he arrived to Kunn. It was a bustling city, with many shops and taverns. Larkas hopes one day the thieves' guild will expand and have a branch in this city.
As he went to the wagons, Larkas recalled one of the laws of the guild: "One must never murder." After all, he never was assassin. That may change soon, though. Still, he is counting on his thieving skills to be put to some use.

"About god damn time" Brynhildr muttered to herself. she had waited for way too long, just having to sit in some godforsaken town where the food was bad and the people weak. she hadn't had a satisfying fight in weeks and even her usual sparring partners in the party dared to avoid her in her current frustration. She didn't blame them: there was no way she would be able to hold anything back.
But with the group heading out she was finally in somewhat good spirits. There would be fights. Big, satisfying ones at that.

Magnus laughed heartily and warmly.
- Me too big guy. Me too. I thought our days were to spend on the border, protecting tis 'ere duchy.- You could easily tell that Magnus was happy about this assignement- It's been forty years since I saw me brother Brann last. Remember that 'ol business with them dryad folk? - He took a drink from his trusty wineskin. - That was something, bashin the heads in of them serpent freaks. - the dwarf spat on the ground. During the War, Magnus was poisoned by one of the serpentine beastmen in service of the Cult of Jagnir. Only the efforts of the company's healers brought him back from the brink of death.
- I do hope we've seen the last of 'em beasts when we crushed the cultists - Magnus said, with a slight hint of anger.
Magnus paused, then took another sip from his wineskin.
- It sure is a change of pace. - The dwarf said. For the last twenty few years he spent unmasking the various smuggling cartels in the area. Of course, he always kept a few bottles of confiscated goods to himself, since the dwarf loved the North Shandran made wines and liquors. But he didn't loved to pay the ludicrous sums of talars for a single bottle.

Sitting in the back of a tavern and smoking his pipe, Alder kept hearing of this group of mercenaries who wished to travel into the north from the passersby. The sounds of celebration outside could be heard from time to time.
Alder stroke his goatee.
"This could be it", he thought, "This could be the ticket to safety. I'd best hurry as not to miss this opportunity."
The cloaked man stood up and left the establishment as the owner eyed him suspiciously.
The crowded street opened up before him. Most of the people in front of Alder stepped to the side. Those that didn't, ended up there by force. Keeping a quick pace, Alder found the mercenary group gathered around their wagons and approached one of the men over there.
"You", he said to him, "Where's your leader?"

'Elepaio looked at her reflection in a window as she brushed her hair. She angled her mirror in an attempt to view the back of her head.
"Mmm"
She flicked her hair twice.
"That will do, I guess, it's not like it won't get messed up again."
She returned her mirror and brush to her satchel and picked up a wine bottle off the window sill. She took a drink and spun around.
"I hope the north lives up to the splendor of its cities names", she thought, "And the hammer to its legend, yes I really hope that". She smiled.

Hahn kept to himself for the most part with the Brotherhood, in quiet reflection. Normally he was sent on missions to aid others, so this quest must be of great importance if they asked him along. Friendly if approached, he was most often seen either meditating or practicing his martial arts whenever the group stopped. He needed little rest or food, or little of anything to be honest, having trained his body to survive on less.
From time to time, when meditating, a small woodland creature would come right up to him. He would gently feed it a bit of lettuce or wild leaves, never trying to harm the creatures. They sensed he was no threat to them, thus why they would get so close. For now, until they started on the move again, he was quietly cleaning up for the group, so they could focus on more important tasks.

Domerth moved forward to the tall, cloaked figure that had halted the movement of the Brotherhood's caravan. Some of the men were reaching for their pistols.
With his axe slung over his shoulder, Domerth stepped forward.

- We don't usually escort travelers northwards.- Domerth said. - and this is a delicate errand we're after. Halfman! - Domerth addressed the small wizard.
- Yes my lord?
- We took some of the books with us, right?
- Yes sir.
- Tell you what.- Domerth began his proposition.- The Brotherhood is always looking to expand, new recruits are always welcome. You look able with a blade. We could use you.

- Right this way. - Domerth said. The went near the wagon Halfman was manning. one of the ledgers in which the names of all past and present recruits were written down, along with their bloodprint, was already ready. With a quill, an inkwell, as well as a small knife.
Domerth opened the ledger, which was completely blank.
- Allright traveler. If you can write, write down your name right here, and your blood print here.- Domerth showed him where to sign. - Once this is done, you'll be part of the Brotherhood.

Since Larkas basically was out of money, having spent the last on the tavern, he decided to make a little prank before going. Seeing some children on the street, he approached them. They had ragged clothes and dirty faces.
"Oh, you there, yes, you three." the children turned their heads, being slightly startled by the half orc."
"Would you be interested in pranking someone? I guarantee you will have enough money to buy some candy."
"Candy? Wow!" the children are happy.
"Yes, but you need to do exactly as I say." Larkas spoke with the children and explained his plan.
A moment later, Larkas stands at a fountain. A wealthy merchant approaches, who had some guards pull a wagon,l filled with clothes. She wore also clothes, but were quite exotic and had vivid colors, so Larkas knew she was not born in this city. She also had a brooch, which bore the symbol of paganism. Larkas approaches her.
"Oh, hey there. Would you like to make a donation to the Fountain of Lost Hope?" Larkas asks the merchant.
"Leave me alone. I have no money for the likes of you." the merchant tries to pass, but Larkas stops her.
"Oh, I don't know about that. See, anyone that was not born in this city could well be afflicted by a powerful curse. You do NOT want to risk that." Larkas explained this, but the merchant still refused.
The children Larkas spoke to earlier started running. "Let's get that *new* kid!", who wore Larkas' red scarf he borrowed around his mouth.
The kid passes by the fountain, but stops and starts screaming. "NOOOO!" the kid falls down, revealing his blue lips, which startles the merchant.
"See what happens? Who knows what could afflict you." Larkas explains. The other two children looks at the other one's body and start weeping. Larkas lifts the child's body and tosses it into the fountain, then takes 14 brass coins, kopecks, and tosses it into the fountain.
"The only way to revert the curse is to soak the child into the fountain and give an offering to the fountain: 2 kopecks times your age."
The child wakes up and starts coughing. "Thank you mister, you saved me!" The blue color on his lips is gone, having ordinary red color. The merchant gasps and holds her hand on her mouth in dismay.
The merchant looks rather convinced. "All right, you made your point." The merchant takes out her pouch. "80 kopecks, then", as she tosses the pouch in the fountain. She passes by the fountain, and so do her guards. In a moment of distraction, Larkas and the children pick up the bag and the kopecks they threw in.
A few seconds later, the merchant realizes she was dumbed down, for her guards didn't pay any gold at all. "Get them!" the guards start chasing after Larkas, who manages to hide himself and the children in the city.
"Good job! You did very well. For the effort, I give you all 50 kopecks." The children were very excited, as they never earned this much money. Larkas moves out, taking back his scarf and going to the meeting with the Brotherhood.

Storming into the wagon, Brunhildr practically shouted "What is the meaning of this?! why are we stopping?!" before noticing Alder and added "and who is this doofus? You recruiting now?" but before anyone could really answer she had already left, swearing and mumbling loudly, kicking the wheel on her way and making one hell of a ruckus. Much to her dismay, the rest of the gathered people kept as far away as possible so she had to settle for kicking down some old, abandoned market stall.
