He then turned his attention to Hahn.
- Walk with me. - He said. Domerth and Hahn eventually ended up on the battlements of the keep, with the view to the passageway to the North. There were lookouts on the walls as well, all armed with matchlock muskets.
- Hahn. I know that you lead a lifestyle of modesty and altruism. And I'm very well aware that you that studied under Kythayan martial arts masters and you're deadly unarmed fighter. - Domerth paused for a moment.
- But our quest here - He resumed talking - Is not the kind that we can expect reinforcements any time soon. Each and every one of you on this expedition are worth their weight in forints. Do me one solid favor. Obtain yourself a weapon. Any type. Whichever you've trained most with back at your monastery. I've heard that you Kythayan martial arts masters are even more deadly with steel in your hands.- Domerth looked at the mountain pass.- This ambush by the Cult was too close for comfort, and it's only going to get worse. Consult with Magnus. He can make you any sort of weapon you want.

Larkas was trying to get some sleep, but was unable to. He thought of the recent battle he had. Instead, he went for a walk to clear his mind; he felt by exhausting himself for a while would make him tired enough to go to sleep.

Orryth finished up with his meal and drink and decided it would be best if he went to get some sleep. Taking one last drink with him, he went to his room.

Hahn gives a bow to Domerth "It will be as you say. We do train with many exotic weapons. However, my greatest attack can not be done with any weapon. A demonstration." Hahn goes far from Domerth and chooses a chair. His palm starts quivering, as he focuses his Qi, and he strikes the chair which starts quivering. He returns back to Domerth, and violently calls back his QI.. and the chair shatters into thousands of pieces. "I will seek out Magus, and have some metalic fans made..they will be perfect to help me deflect blows.. and can be thrown if things get dire." He bows again.

Domerth was more than impressed with the technique that Hahn had showed him.
After looking at the mountain pass one last time, Domerth too decided to retire for the evening.
The next day started with a small ruckus. The members of the Expedition were preparing to leave Northwatch Hold, with Mikolaj giving some last minute advice. With that settled, the expedition resumed moving.
Magnus was conversing with Hahn, discussing the design of the fans that the monk wanted.
Domerth decided to stop on the first town before Beryl. But to it, the was still quite a bit of road left to travel.

News of the cultist's death spread quickly through the keep. Nobody was really affected by such news and continued on with their duties.
- As they are moving, Larkas asks a question. "What did you do with the dead body, anyway?"

- there's more than one body. - Domerth said. - You didn't noticed that several of the keep's troops were piling them up for burning? And if you're wondering why we're burning them, it's fairly simple. According to the Annals, sometimes the cultist corpses rise again. It was a big problem during the Siege of Diamond.

- These fanatics are not frightened by such sights. In fact, it's quite the opposite. - Domerth said. - They aren't like any enemy we'd face normally. They have little to no regard for their own safety when charging into combat. Ask any of those that saw the war, they'll tell you the exact same thing.

Evening had dawned, and Domerth decided to break camp by the road. The town of Grovestead was another ten leagues away, and before the sun had set, the dryad grove could be seen in the distancem right alongside the smoke rising from the hamlet's chimneys, with a colossal oak towering above all the other trees. Domerth read that the gigantic tree served as an Oracle, a seat from which the Gods of the Pantheon maintained the strongest link to the mortal world. His father and few of the veterans, actually were witnesses of this, as well as had received guidance from the Pantheon's eldest.
Magnus was preparing a field forge, as he wanted to start making the fans for Hahn as soon as he could. He put Ingvar for bellowing duties, as he readied some of the dwarven steel he brought for forging. He did however, in his old habit, began mumbling complaints under his nose, occasionally taking a swig from his wineskin as well.
Domerth set out lookouts on the perimeter of the camp.
Soon enough, a fire was burning, and a large boar shot by Nivera earlier was roasting on the spit. The dryad herself was sitting in one wagon, with her musket in hands, scouring the surroundings for any threats.
Domerth was sitting a little bit farther from the campfire, conversing with Halfman, about the sorcerer's report to his clan's elders.
- So... We'll meet that coleague of yours in Beryl?
- Beryl, yes. - The tiny wizard said. - She'll be joining us soon. The elders of Clan Samann thought it would be best that another of us would accompany us.
- Tell me more about her.
- Nightshade accompanied us before. she was one of the three other Samann sorcerers that joined the Brotherhood during the War. The elders fear that this expedition to retrieve the Malus will be more perilous than when we went to find the Goblet.
- Well, if we'll have to face more than initiates with flimsy weapons, than one more of Clan Samann is more than welcome.
The night was quiet, save for Magnus working the steel, shaping it into the fans that Hahn requested.
A large creature, most likely a dragon flew over the campsite, it appeared to be heading north east. It didn't payed any attention to the camp, nor did the Brotherhood to it.
On the morning, after a quick breakfast, Domerth ordered the expedition to move.
- Ay lad, yer fans be ready in a couple of days. Will be quicker if the smith over at the town will lend me his forge - Magnus said to Hahn. He worked overnight, meaning the rest of the company got little sleep.
Domerth approached John.
- I've seen you in the keep's library before I went to sleep. Did you find anything useful regarding this expedition?

"Well, Magnus, I and a few others already know the area from our last expedition, so I focused on journals and reports since then. It really is amazing how the North flourished after the War. Even the bandits that hurried over this way in search of artifacts and easy loot are mostly being kept out of the big cities... and that made me wonder... if the guards around the North are strong enough to repel bandits, why isn't more of the North settled by now? There are more ruins about and mountains which could easily contain rare metals and gems. So why are the cities of the North spread so far and wide? I fear that there are scarier things lurking in the wilderness than mere bandits and cultists. We would do well to avoid them unless left without a choice."

- Well, aren't the hamlets scattered within a day's travel at most around their respective freeholds? - Domerth asked John. - Though it is indeed strange that they haven't expanded further. Although, if we believe the rumors, most of the wealth comes from trading with the continent in the West, and Sapphire is soon to surpass Amethyst in the amount of wealth they accumulate.
Soon enough, the expedition had reached the town of Grovestead, belonging to the freehold of Beryl.
- Hm... - Magnus muttered while grasping this crossbow. - The town's quieter than it is usual.
- Superstitions? - Domerth raised his eyebrow
- The folk 'ere are still afraid of 'em dryads. - Magnus said. - Though not as much when the war raged. Still, this quiet is unsettlin at best. Watch yer backs lads.
The company marched though the town, they were met with eerie quiet.
- Something isn't right here. - Domerth said as the expedition entered the town square.
- Alberich preserve us. - Magnus uttered. There was a cult banner, and mutilated corpses of the townsfolk thrown into a pile in the townsquare. the town's elderates were hanged from the belltower of the town hall.
In the distance, fighting could be heard.
- Let's go. Maybe we can still save some of the townsfolk. - Domerth said as he gripped his axe.
Upon joining the combat, the Brotherhood discovered that the cultists were engaging a detachment of the Seventh Sons, and the free company was losing badly. The cultists here were armed and armored slightly better than the one's the Brotherhood fought earlier.

She didn't spare a second and rushed as quickly as she could towards the battle, pushing and shoving several of her allies out of the way and some even down to the ground. These cultists were armed, clearly a more satisfying fight!

"Another one?" Alder thought as he prepared to enter the fight.
With Ripper in his grasp, he charged into the center of the crowd, whirling his weapon and mutilating any cultist unfortunate enough to end up in front of the blade.

- The Tattered Banner's here! - A woman's voice came from the Seventh Sons side of the battle. The nearly beaten detachment gained renewed strenght at the sight of their allies.
Domerth struck down one of the cultists with his axe, and shot one more with his pistol. Magnus was shooting his crossbow, landing several successfull kills.
The both free companies started to gain the upper hand, though the battle was far from over.

"Take this!" Larkas throws a knife at one of the attackers. While the knife leaves a large wound, the opponent endures the attack and charges at Larkas. Fortunately, he was unaware that the knife was poisoned and, after trying to attack Larkas a few times, he collapses on the ground.
