I don't think everybody views hitting as lightly as you do and I don't think they should. Violating a person's personal dignity by striking them is a big deal, or it can be. It can be less or more serious depending on the context. Whether it is spontaneous or planned. A single act of passion or repetitive. If it's done between friends/aquantances or between real enemies.

I've never hit somebody before or have been hit before, excluding pre-adolesence as a child, and if somebody ever hit me in school I would have considered it a very big deal. If somebody hit me now I would take it as a very big deal. I witnessed one fight in my life and it was in 7th grade... age 12. My upbringing was not harsh, but then I wouldn't consider it overly sheltered either. I went to a vanilla school district in a semi-rural town in the mid-Atlantic region.

And this bill, while I dont approve of it, lists what CAN be done, not what WILL be done. I think that's pretty basic as far as legal procedures go. A district has the option to pursue this, but it doesn't mean theyre going to everytime a kid gets into a small scuffle. I can pretty much guarantee this will never happen except in the more severe situations. There is work (therefore money) to pursue a case, as well as consequences to kicking a kid out of the system, or at least doing it frequently, such that the record will draw attention. You can face auditing, budget cuts, rebudgeting, staff reshuffling, etc. If a teacher comes to me with a problem child and has no record keeping or interventions to show for it, I don't take them seriously. If they do, I do. So any half-competent district will weigh their choices and jump through certain strategic hoops before resorting to the justice system, if it feels the situation is serious enough to warrant it. Your interpretion of this bill is a lot more dramatic than what it will be in practice.

If you look up funding, it's actually more than most other (or all) 1st world countries. Charter schools in the US have significantly higher results than public schools and they do it with grossly less money. Charter schools are competitive and often force improvisation out of teachers.

Some schools might be underfunded,  but many have personal laptops / tablets for students, labs, huge gyms, commonly updated curriculum programs with lots of supplementals, etc. Boatloads of stuff gets thrown away.
High funding does not equal great function, as the US's defense spending shows quite frequently. Not to say that there are not good public schools, but the amount of largely disorganized, underpaid, institutions fighting for government funding when compared with other countries is not testament to its effectiveness. I really do not care if charter schools do well because, as was mentioned somewhere earlier here, private schools are unlikely to be the ones using this law as they will likely have an "in house" punishment, something public schools are seldom allowed to have.

no, parents(and not just, to be sure) just suck more than ever nowadays. current american parents moreso, because those idiots'll buy whatever the media sells them; and they're mostly selling fear and paranoia(you know, trying to split people up so that they have no chance of uniting against the ever-tightening fist of the corporations, government entities, and their wicked ilk).

that said, parents these days have the internet to contend with. it's not easy to be a parent with the internet around; with all it's abuses constantly within reach at any time or day. kids these days are exposed to everything that their parents are hiding; and if they look hard enough, everything that the human race is hiding. the whole dark world is at their fingertips.

it was much easier for parents when i was growing up. and even then, they bought what the media was selling. now everyone's buying what the internet is selling.

what you're seeing, is just more evidence that the u.s.(and indeed, if you look around, the whole goddamn world) is running off the rails now more than ever. you're looking at a country(and the world, if you use your peripheral vision) in flames, and these morons think they can put those flames out with napalm.

you mean the hormones they put in our food to try and compete with the lack of food + overpopulation? yeah, that's another aspect of it. those hormones they put in the animals we end up eating(along with all the neat stuff they put in our vegetables, fruits, water, etc., etc.), i think, have a lot to do with the growing aggression in people. not all of it(putting a child in line physically is now categorized as abuse), but some of it. you have every goddamn psychologist proclaiming that every kid is special and deserves special treatment(and ADULTS ARE TOO, MY MY); every doctor proclaiming that there is something wrong with the children(and the ADULTS, too! wouldn't want to forget to control them with false ailments and real drugs) and that they all need PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE to keep them under control; you have a disposable society/lifesytle that proclaims nothing sacred other than CONSUMERISM; you have countless future jobs being taken off the table by ROBOTS; i mean, the list goes on and on. the issue spans many threads/ideas/countries.

what do these kids have to look forward to? i'll repeat that: what do these kids have to look forward to? not a goddamn thing. i pity this generation. their parents are all dumbasses, and people's distractions are assuming control of everything.

distraction after distraction after distraction. and no solution in sight, save ruining the future of the human race by REMOVING their ability to COPE with the world around them. step. by step. by step.

I am very puzzled about America sometimes, I want to understand it better but it's so confusing. It's like this first world country which is one of the richest, yet it's also like this kangaroo, carrying in its pouch little third worlds. Take this thing about food for example, every damn healthy diet specialist, doctor, food expert I have listened to, says that American food industry is terrible, unlike Europe, the legal precautions for a healthy diet are crushed by the big corporations and 90 percent of what you eat is horrible junk. I mean, look at your obese, they almost look like a different specie with the ass starting to horizontally spill outside like a car trunk. Everywhere, there are fat people, but not like that. Yet, people arent even allowed to see if their food is organic or not, by looking at the label because, apparently, they have to trust the industry which obviously screwed them the most. Then you have this violence at school thing, bullying exists everywhere but how come hospitilazing level bullying becomes a regular thing? But Blizz says, he only witnessed one fight during all his youth, so it's not like that in every neighbourhood... The internal gaps between the society must be huge. You have the highest numbers in scientific publishing, yet, a very significant portion of your population believes the world is around 10.000 years old as if they live in Uganda, you have the most widespread constitutional rights, yet police using brutal force is sometimes triple the times compared to other first world countries... Is America a collection of disoriented societies now, or is there still a union in spirit?

any union we ever had died not long after ww2. i'm no history buff, but i think it was during the great depression(was that in-between the two world wars?). the media do every single snowing thing they can to keep us seperated, and to further seperate us from where we are now. the media is run by the government, corporations, and special interest groups who run the country. the common man/woman are seen as cattle to manipulate. we are there to serve their purpose and make/keep them rich.

do you know why we have so many tremendously fat people? 2 reasons:

1. being fat and unhealthy keeps the pharmacutical/psychological companies and it's entities churning out garbage into our bodies and ears; while keeping them rich. the people who run the u.s. are predatory in every sense. they'll kill their own customers just to make a buck(which is what they're all slowly doing).

2. people in the u.s. are taught consumerism at a young age. look at christmas("it's the most wonderful time of the year", goes the song. and why? simple: consumerism.): buy snow you don't need, pushed by those who CREATE the "need", to fill the gap that hollow society seems to leave on all the destroyed and/or dysfunctional families. families are so fractured nowadays, that the entire wholesome family dynamic that you saw back in the ww days, is next to non-existent... i'm meandering again. point is, another reason people are fat, because people are taught to fulfill any pleasures that fill that hole in their lives caused by our society. and that includes tasty, horrible garbage that the food industry in this country is constantly refining, to both make more money off of us, and to make us want it more. that's why we have bacon-wrapped everything, smothered in heart-clogging cheese, stuffed with pepperoni(or more bacon). and don't forget, SUPERSIZED. our servings get bigger and bigger every year, with less and less nutrition. and the ADS for this garbage are EVERYWHERE. the supermarket layouts are designed(through marketing psychology), to be the most appealing, to sell more. brightly colored labels, kid's junk cereals are at THEIR EYE LEVEL, music that STUDIES HAVE SHOWN MAKES PEOPLE HUNGRY OR BUY MORE plays in the stores, etc., etc. the FDA is the only thing that seemingly(seemingly) is out there to curb the amount of garbage being fed to us. and even THEY push pharmacuticals and other nefarious garbage because NOBODY'S PAYING ATTENTION. they're too busy playing with their snowing iPHONES to even pay attention to their OWN CHILDREN.

...i think that about covers the obesity issue in our country(besides the hormones and other synthetic chemical garbage i mentioned before; made specifically to fill the plates of the overpopulating).

Yes. What makes it stranger is that people relatively know what's happening but just bear it. But here again looks like the governments succeeded in what they did.

To go on what said artu, USA are originally a very unstable country, and that's why it requires so many measures to keep it going, foreign interventions, control of society, the "system", etc. China, for example, is more stable than USA if you look at it closely.

Now Fred, I'm still convinced your parents had a terrible time raising you lol, hopefully no internet back that time. Just kidding. Anyways, USA will always remain an odd country for me. It can be your friend and your enemy at the same time.

You guys think like plebs. Our overlords wants us to forgive bullies because they don't apply justice for the individual, but rather, because they administrate us like a company to make profit. When you own a company and you have 31 workers ; 1 of them is hated by the other 30, but for stupid worthless reasons ; the boss will fire the single one rather than the 30 because it's easier that way.

Then they propagate that this forgiveness of bullies is for the greater good and that it is the morally acceptable solution. I just want you to understand the source of your opinion and why they want us plebs to think that way.

Some stuff is dubious about this law, yes, but I wouldn't worry too much. They only mention the maximum sentence when it would more commonly be around 1 month of juvenile jail instead. Other offenses will increase it. I don't disagree with other races being profiled and getting bigger sentences but that's another subject, police corruption.

Heh. We're all influenced by our surroundings. Very often, we think we have our own opinions when we're just repeating what we were taught. And even if it was your true opinion that you thought over, it's still the same conclusion as the standard pleb, ain't it.

My conclusion is Z because of X reasoning.
My conclusion is Z because of Y reasoning.

Who's right? Who's more accurate? Can they both be wrong?

My own conclusion, based on my experience, wasn't that one side was utterly evil and another innocent. As I said, both sides are innocent, just one more than the other. My conclusion was that the conclusion of these stories of school beatings are more often influenced by how many people love them rather than justice or equality or even greater good for that matter. These other "reasons" are just deceitful excuses. If I'm asked to love a bully or someone being bullied, I think it's more fair to side with whoever has the least amount of support, that's all.

I grew up in the country outside of town, or more precisely in the forest. Ducks, chickens, cats, turkeys, cows, a horse and horse pasture, and a dog. A small stream behind our large renovated Civil War era house, with a porch wrapping almost completely around it. A few fruit trees planted in the large yard and a garden. I liked to explore the area or catch crayfish, forage for berries (wild raspberries were plentiful), build forts or dams, etc. Our vehicles were often heavily used and usually self-maintained if they needed mechanical work.

I've lived in three different states since then.

And yes, I always take everything at face value until I am given a reason not to. Far more often than not, things are generally as they appear to be, or close to it.
