Single Square Placement

Anyone know if placing a single square is possible?
I think I remember the WOG map editor being able to do that.

When selecting the single square placement icon, it always places a 2x2 grid of 4 squares no matter what.  

Not a huge deal, but it really helps when I'm trying to reproduce or translate something exactly into HOMM3.

what a confusing post

as a reaction to your question I went to look for the unleashed editor thread that allows single-tile placement out of the box, but somehow this is the unleashed editor thread. you just need to have this option on:

I think the only way is to first use features like that on the unleashed editor and then finish the map with the hota editor. IIRC there was a version of the map editor patch for hota some years ago but not sure if even that really worked.

It has been a long time since using this great piece of work

It was only now that I finally checked out this newest version (1.24) in depth; I have encountered two bugs (on Windows 7), hopefully not only due to my own incompetence. The editor is run in administrator mode, and there should not be any permission problems from file settings:

1) This error upon checking a prison hero

I do not really know what exactly causes this, I can send you the map I used if you need it. It only seems to happen on one specific map that I am working on.

If that may change anything, on that map I changed the SoD_SP+ Options:



After switching around between some tabs in the editor, this usually stops happening, but reoccurs randomly at times.

2) It seems that the "Customize" Button in the "Heroes" Tab of Map Specifications,

does not actually change any setting in the map - it does so visually, however, upon restarting the map editor (or loading the map in game), the changes are reverted. As a sidenote, only manual changes to heroes (=not made using the "Customize" button) are actually being saved, even if using the "Customize" button at the same time.

To recreate:
1) Open Map Specifications -> Heroes
2) Open "Customize"
3) Set all heroes as unhireable
3.5) Check any heros hirability - it will show that it should not be hirable.
4) Set one hero to be hireable by all but one players
5) Save map
6) Restart Map Editor Unleashed
7) Check Map Specifications -> Heroes: Only the one manually changed hero is still hireable by all but one player. The other heroes are reverted to the settings before

Argh, for whatever reason I missed this message despite checking new posts on a regular basis...

1. I'm having a hard time replicating this.

There is functionality to do that which is provided by Grayface patch, you could look up its documentation.

After some more testing, I have the feeling this might be connected to the "hero seed" feature, which I am currently making a lot of use of. Often times after closing a hero window, the hero seeds gets replaced by a seemingly random number (even though more often than not it seems to be 255). And every time after the described bug happens, the hero seeds are changed.

Some more information on that matter: when the bug happens, it can be fixed by placing a new hero and opening its window (sometimes the editor needs to be closed first - simply closing the editor is NOT enough though, so I guess some weird data is written somewhere). Also, the hero seeds seem to stay correct until you check the hero again, at what point they get changed sometimes even when canceling the window. So my current solution is to never look at a seeded hero again after placing it

How do i use the battlefield searcher option? I saw the video you made on youtube. but I click it and nothing happens. The window doesn't pop up. Only the battlefield explorer works for me.

I am not 100% sure, but I think that option requires kazmer's battlefield explorer to be open?

Sadly I have another bug to report:

At random times, entire tabs in the hero screen vanish:


I think it might be a memory related problem, as the problem seems to occur mostly when my PC is at moderate to high RAM load. Sadly I cannot give a clearer instruction how to make this appear.

Bug Report

Bug Report:

Starting artifact bonus breaks when using Unleashed option "Random Objects" with seeded objects that give artifacts and little amount of possible starting artifacts is given

Observed with:
1 possible starting artifact - Ring of Life
Dragon Utopia set to level 4

To recreate:

1) Create empty map with one hero
2) Set only one artifact as possible starting art, e.g Ring of Life
3) Set a Dragon Utopia and set it to level 4

Result:
Ingame: Same as if all artifacts were enabled.

But what happens when you now start this map with artifact bonus? Will you get the expected Ring of Life or a random artifact?

Maybe I did not make it clear: in the editor everything looks fine, but ingame the custom allowed artifact settings do no longer apply.

And no worries about fixing it; I just report things as I find them, but there is no hurry the only thing that is really annoying is the hero dialog error as I do not really understand yet how to make the error go away (simply restarting is not enough - most often it can only be fixed by placing a number of new heroes/creatures and opening their dialogs. but very inconsisten) - however, I understand it is possibly the most exhausting thing to try and fix. However, if I can help you with anything, just tell me. These days I have spent more time on H3 again

A question on hero seeds: are you supposed to set the seed only once, or is the seed on a per-hero basis?
