Poll Question: Which character was your childhood hero?
HE MADE A POLL, BURN HIM!
On a serious note...who was your childhood hero?
As a kid from the Netherlands, we had a lot of rainy days on which I was allowed to play on the playstation, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro made me an entertained kid, could play those games for hours. I remember not even having a memory card at first so I would play the first levels over and over again because I could not save....And I did not even mind.
Mind was blown when I could finaly save games and even beat the games
So....Who was/were yours?

Unfortunately, I was never into the hero stuff. Sure, I watched Justice League and played a lot of games for the entertainment value, but I never thought about anyone along the lines. Maybe deep down I knew better?

Rayman, donkey kong, Super Mario, Wario, Sonic All of them received a lot of love. But I was more fond of rayman, so many good memories from those times.

That's a funny perception, now that I look at it. I never felt these characters, or any other in my childhood gaming time, as heroes. TV and cartoon heroes felt like heroes.
The first time I felt like playing a hero in a game was playing with Zidane in Final Fantasy IX. After that, perhaps only by playing Commander Shepard role, in Mass Effect trilogy. The heroic feeling always ignites in my spirit whenever a large scope of protection and defending something is involved. That's possibly why I never felt anything regarding Alex Kid, or Mario, or Sonic. They were simply too mundane.
For heroes, superman was the common thing during my childhood, internetless, rather poor. Up to this day, it's still one I most like, because it's closer to my morality and decision making, so to speak.

I'd say Rayman, because I never played any of the other character's games (well, maybe Sonic once). Also because I'm currently playing Rayman: Origins.
There are a lot of games/franchises that I completely missed, both old and more recent. That doesn't mean I never played games back in the day. Why is Commander Keen not among these heroes? I guess he belongs to the Something Else-category. Darn, I already cast my vote before realizing this . Oh, here's another one: Jazz Jackrabbit. The green bunny with the bandana and a blue blaster. Another one for the spare category.

I quite liked Link as well. Liked Zelda when she had red-brownish hair. Reminds me of my first lol...
Batman was my favourite of the Justice League heroes. Didn't feel as Sunday school boyish as Superman. The guy technically doesn't have any space alien superpowers after all, only his gadgets and machines.
But still, in general I was more of the guy who felt sympathy for the evil side and felt they were just generally cooler, unless they did something outrageously evil (like being cruel to animals, like the wretched old snow in the 101 dalmatians). And who can argue that ol' Darth is cooler than both Link and all of the Justice League together? #theempiredidnothingwrong

Those were the first to pop in my mind, but I have to agree, Jazz Jackrabbit was amazing and so was Commander Keen (but quite a hard game for a kid)
Batman....Should have put him on the list! curse maximum of 10 options!!!!

If anyone of them, the closest one would be Link. Had a lot of fun with Mario but then...I came across Bowser! Ma Boy!
Had little contact with most of the others, though Donkey Kong was my man on the N64 Smash Bros. Brawl. Got later replaced with Bowser, though.
But only with Link, even after all these years, I have still this heroic feeling, playing these games.

Never liked the stereotypical heroes. Villains with personality on the other hand... Megabyte from Reboot heads the list (voiced by one of the arch-villains in voice acting - Tony Jay).
And of course his sister Hexadecimal, who, I now realize, is so something like fred with tits on 3D:
