LucPatenaude said: Yesterday, I happened to look up the Steam Store page for Heroes VII and, people are still flocking to this franchise by the hundreds.
Well...at least 89 very recent reviews of the game are in the Mixed opinions of the quality of the game. So...45(thumbs up) found the game really good and addicting and, 44(thumbs down) found the game still too buggy for them to appreciate proper gaming. Sorry for not cutting one of these reviewers in half since, it is, still, found cruel to do so(44.5 + 44.5 = 89).
Overview is that there is well over 2700 reviews ever since the initial release of the vanilla game in 2015.
In conclusion: The monies are still being raked in by the three titles that are called Heroes VII(Heroes VII, Trial By Fire and, Heroes VII:Complete). Therefore, the very passionate Chinese developers that already worked on the latest mobile edition of Heroes of Might and Magic might seriously petition to make a full size PC edition of Heroes VIII.
P.S. All these Billions will certainly have the potential at allowing Might & Magic development to begin in the next few Business Quarters of this year(2018). All the franchise needs is a mere 250,000$ for setting up a proper development studio and a proper development personnel to generate propositions of how to begin reviving this ever classic American franchise.

Oakwarrior said: Guys, I remember a thread around here somewhere discussing 2D vs 3D approaches for a potential "Heroes 8" game. Or maybe it was a general thing. I recall some interesting bits of conversation from that thread but can't really find it. And it's something I've been thinking about as of late. In terms what what people actually expect from a HoMM-like game, I'm not entirely sure what the general consensus is on the matter. 2D is the age-old classic route but I don't even know if most players of the series would go with the nostalgia factor or would want the whole thing to be modernized... Thoughts?
Hey Oak.
There has been countless similar threads over the years but maybe you think of this one, which was created during Erwin's Moon development.
'Sup
And yes, EXACTLY that thread. Thanks. *grabs popcorn*.
And yeah, consensus is.. too grand of a term to use in this case, I think
Randomly bumped into this other thread, with a 2015 poll saying 63 % of HC is for 2D.

Well at least HoMM is not the only franchise being butchered. Look at what another fan fav company, EA, has done to C&C franchise: https://www.ea.com/news/command-and-conquer-rivals.
Regarding the majority of "mixed" reviews on Steam. I've heard the game has been fixed up to at least a playable state + mods. When there was a sale for the game on Steam, the thought of buying it even crossed my mind. But I simply hate the look and this whole 'background' of the game, so I won't touch it.

Thanks.

Well the Unreal Engine 3 makes it the most moddable of the Heroes series, the engine could simply be used to make any Heroes game (with the possible but not certain exception of H4 due to hero merging and combat participation). You could even with the correct 3D assets and scripts make Heroes 3 (in non-sprite version) within Heroes 7.

Yes, the original UDK is a blast! But not the abomination which is Heroes editor aka modded UDK by Limbic - its a crashy beast and do not try to make anything big in it... or you will be cursed by erwinomania and become a madman

I have spent 2 years in it (Heroes editor) and Im cursing the day I decided to create a MOD for H7 - but at last I have almost finished it so wont give up
And about UDK - yes, Lizard Warrior did his Ashan2Trashcan mod this way but I am not sure if everything was working as intended when ported back to H7.

If H7 was a worthwhile game, that's all the fans could ever want. You can mod the hell out of it and introduce so much content easily. What a wasted opportunity.

e3 is dog sht and every game presented in e3 is dog snow. I had a nightmare the other day that the next Heroes games turned into a FPS set in a post-apocalypse world.
Like seriously it's making me want to vomit how similar next gen games are today, the art styles, concepts and gameplay are all mushed together. Few franchises stand on their own now. It's just baffling to me how Heroes can never make it to be mainstream. It's so different and has so much potential and it's just being cast aside as an afterthought. I know I'd rather play no game at all than playing all those cookie cutter FPS no matter how nice they look.
So nobody here knows anyone @ Ubisoft who might be working on Heroes? Didn't we used to get insider's tips or something?
