Since heroes 4 is the way it is...

Well how is Heroes 4?

Longer than its predecesors... I mean a game in h4 would prolly take a lot more than one in h3... Seeing that how would toh adapt to the new conditions?

I mean, will the points awarded for a game increase, will the different point ranks be lowered or will it stay the same?

With the increase in time needed for h4, one must expect an increase in unfinished games... For tournaments like divisions and clan finals, the deadlines would probably have to be extended... It's not like you can find 8 hours to play every day...

Just curious that's all.

I'm guessing the multiplayer patch will include a timer. If it doesn't though, your questions are quite to the point.

no point for a timer

With no chaining it isn't the individual turns that take time in H4, each battle is longer and it takes alot longer ot build up the same force as in H3.

my personal opinion

I dont think the games will take any longer (as long as bugs dont make you crash, drop and other nonsense).  I think the gameplay will be about the same, or shorter.  Question is, is there really going to be a timer?

Well,it all depends on the players approach to scouting. At the beginning of a turn, you could split away maybe 6 or 7 lvl 1 creatures and run them in different directions to see if there are enemies nearby. This wouldn't be too much of a problem on a closed map,not in the early game anyway. But in an open map, where you might run into your opponent at any time, you are likely to scout for all your worth,no?A time consuming buisness. We need that timer, and I sure hope NWC has the sense to implement one.

bad feeling

I have a bad feeling there may be no timer, since the hot seat mode doesnt.  And from all the feedback and gloom so far, it seems quite likely there will be no timer.

So what?

Don't you want your opponent to be able to scout that way?

You would rather have a fast game or rather a game where both players had time to scout and such as mentioned?

Does it feel good to win a game because a player couldn't click as fast or had a slower system than you?

I hope there is no timer.

Let people make their best moves and if they take so long that you can't stand it just concede the game and don't play them again.

Personally I dont care about whether there is a timer or not.

With a timer, I get to feel stressed, hurried into doing stupid things, but on the other hand i at least get to finish games faster.

On the other hand without the timer, I can chat, get to know my opponents better and tell silly jokes. Actually I think I enjoy playing without timer better than when there is a timer, since I think that chatting with opponents is enjoyable and gives that sociabl element, just that so many opponents want a quick game and see a long protracted game as a waste of time.

Furthermore I notice that the more honorable players don't mind taking longer turns. People like Mocara take extremely long turns, but make up for it by telling entertaining stories, and anyway When playing a person with long turns, I can go get my lunch, bathe, get a cup of coffee while i wait =P

Timers

There are only 2 people I regularly play no-timer games with--Blade and Lord_Odin.  There are many people I would play that way with if that was agreeable to them.  It makes for a relaxing game and gives plenty of freedom for idle chitchat

Conversely, I have played 4 min time limits with some people who could stretch every turn from day 2 onward into a 20 minute marathon and the only thing they've said was "Long turn here" or "Big battle".  THOSE are the games I find completely unenjoyable.  Not specifically because of the turn length (I'm guilty of a few long ones of my own at times), but because the game was so utterly BORING.

I've found that games like that lead me to make many more careless mistakes because it becomes difficult to maintain interest in what's going on after bordom takes over.

I hope there IS a timer included with the patch.  If it's not there it's not an option, whereas if there is one, it's up to both players to decide before launching whether to use it or not.

i prefer the 2 min time limit.

It is fast and furious and certainly gets the addrenalin going as you prepare for your big battle.

It also keeps you senses on alert instead of ambly taking it easy and making some silly mistakes.

Maybe no timer would help people to worry less about the destination, and enjoy the journey?

I really don´t understand you people. In H3, very few games were played without time limit. Now everyone says ´it´s more fun without, anyway´. Maybe it is, when you play with friends, and both are considerate to the other person who´s waiting. But unless you intend to stick with a small number of old veteran friends, you need to try new people who likely are more competitive than friendly. Don´t you remember how annoying it was, even in 4 min games, when your opponent stalled, and endlessly dragged on a losing game? Quite often with the idea of saving sooner or later, to never be continued?
Also, Heroes 4 needs the time limit much more than Heroes 3. The old day 1 saved a lot of time. Now, with the towns producing new creatures every day, in tournament games this will lead to reinforcements bought and sent on their way every day, too.

My opinion, if the patch doesn´t include a time limit, ToH is dead. Unless it goes back to H3, which is the much better game anyway.

timer needed!

In H3 2 min turn was ok. But in H4 2 min turns is too short. 4 min would be ok. I think that a timer is needed to prevent long turns.

Fact of the matter is you can do more in more time.

If you don't know all your options them maybe you can play in 2 minutes.

If you are a very advanced player and you clear the map 3 times as fast as someone else then odds are you may need more time.

Anyone who says "This is all the time someone needs" then they had better be an Emperor to show they at least know what is needed.

Anyone can say "2 minutes is enough" and maybe it is for you but If you had to duplicate one of Frank's moves it would take you longer than 2 minutes.

If you are suggesting that advanced players should dumb down their game so that the other person won't have to wait then I would say do not play players like that or play a real time game if you are in such a big hurry.

By the way Shane, you are first person who I have ever heard say I take long turns.

No offense but you are easily the slowest player I have ever played. Even slower than Prometheus.

Of course I don't mind. I always enjoy playing you but I think I am a pretty fast player considering I usually use 8 heroes and have one garrisoned in every town I own most times.

Anyway all that is in the past now. Thanks to H4 we will all take long turns because the battles take longer and we will get nothing done with our one hero.

System Demands Biggest problem

I think you guys are missing the point of why some people cannot play with slower timers!!!

IN Heroes3 I cannot play with 2 min timer because of my slow machine. A good amount of my turn is wasted with entering and leaving the town.  Valuable secs there.

In Heroes 4 it is even WORSE.  I have 500 procesor 512 RAM  64Vid card and my machine is so slugish that I could not play with any timer.  At the moment my mouse is the worst part. It takes me 20 secs to get the mouse to stop on the object I want. Since it is sooo jerky and slugish.  If I am made to play in under 3 mins forexample there is NO way.

If my computer did as I wanted and entered into castles in 1 sec and my mouse scrolled smoothly as it did in Heroes3 then a timer wouldnt bother me.

But I think the Timer is the least of our worries.  At the moment I am like JB I havent opened or tryed to play H4 for 2 weeks. Mainly becasue of the system Demands and game running soooo slow.  At present time it takes me me several hours and then I am only in week 2 or 3.

So unless the Patch solves some of the heavy system demands Jinxer prolly wont be playing much.
