Hall of Fame - Share your scores !

I have just finished the first campaign “The true Blade”. I thought I would have a good score because I made it quick and well.

My score for “The True Blade” in Expert mode is 3045, in 202 days... but my rank is sprite !!!!????!!!!

I’m really disapointed to be a sprite. I want to know what did you do if you have already played the campaigns. It’s a good way to compare with other people (without excess of pride please) and to get an idea about the system of ranking in Heroes 4.

There are some very serious bugs for scores in Single Scenarios so I expect it to be the same for Camaign Games.

Basically, every time you reload a game you lose points to your scores and also lose points for completing quests and so on. The best way to get a good score is probably to do each scenario in one single session without ever reverting to a saved game.

Djive, that maybe isn't a bug. And it really isn't a serious one. I couldn't care less for the scores. Besides it's a kind of cheating when you load the game, so some penalty in scores is in order.

You could of course look at it as features. The Ai do reset number of won battles to 0, and also number of completed quests to 0.

Some scenarios are just too long to play without interruption, and with the memory leak it's all but impossible not to reload on Large maps (Due to time constraints.)

The reasons why there shouldn't be a penalty is that sometimes you have to reload due to things outside of your control, such as crashes in the game.

Besides from that it might interest the player to have accurate statistics on quests completed and battles won.

The bug may not be a serious one (if you consider gameplay and so on), but if you're into having accurate information on the statistics screen then it is an annoying one. It also makes interchanging high scores a bit redundant and makes them dependent on other things than player skill.

Also if a game penalizes a player for RELOADing, then you should receive a warning about this when you select an option that will terminate the game-session in progress.

Apart from that there are some things which I believe shouldn't give any points but does so anyway, like artifacts possessed.

It maybe the reason Djive : I’m the King of Reloading. I can’t bear making little mistakes and always try to do the perfect mission.

Do this work with Heroes 3 ? Because I reloaded many times too, but in the missions on impossible mode my rank was often archangel.

For me, the strange thing is the rank compared with the score. It was my first campaign, and in my hall of fame the second (random) score was 1380 and the associated rank was Pikeman. It’s not logical...

What happens if you use cheats ??? You have no rank, you’re called “cheater”, your rank is peasant or ...?

Could you give me please examples of your scores.

I don't know about the portrait. It seems erratic. Just by comparing the order the portraits appear in the Scenario and Campaign, I'd say there is no system or it is bugged.

For instance in one of the lists dwarves ranks better than sprites in the other one worse, and there are many other examples on portraits appearing in reversed order. However, it seems that portraits for level 2 cretures always appear before level 1s.

Heroes 3 doesn't penalize reloading at all, and the score you get mostly dependent on the difficulty setting. Other important factors is vanquishing all enemies and finding the grail. Also depends on days and towns taken, but this will give only a very minor adjustment of the score.

Your score is a bit better than mine although they're not on the same campaigns and not on the same difficulty either.

315 days, 2955, Death Campaign, Advanced difficulty.
282 days, 2840, Nature campaign, Advanced difficulty.
519 days, 2415 Chaos campaign, Intermediate difficulty (Seems I forgot to change this to Advanced. Anyway, I took a lot of detours in this campaign so it should be possible to complete it a LOT faster. Still maps are big so it's difficult to say how much faster.)

Thanx for the explanantions Djive.

Could you please tell me the rank you had with the score of your 3 campaigns ?

It tried to begin the second Campaign (barbarian) on Champion mode. IT IS (really) IMPOSSIBLE ! I didn’t beat even one stack of creatures and have been stopped in exploration in a week. Sniff... Can’t do anything. So I started the third (Order) and it is playable. Is it because of the difficulty of the first map (I think so) or because of the Order Magic ??? Dunno.

Hey Djive, what kind of rank did you get in H3 ? I’m curious. I never played multiplayer, but spend 2 years of my life beating the IA in impossible mode. I’m sure I’ll be down on ToH in 1 month by you or others.

Is the ranking system different when you finished a multiplayer game ? I don’t speak about your rank or points in ToH obviously. Only the rank (and score) you get at the end of the game.

The ranks were all level 1s. Sprite for the Death-campaign, and I remember Pirate for the Chaos Campaign.

Might heroes r restrictive in one way. If you can't beat an enemy, then you simply can't bat them. A mage have flexibility so sometimes they can win even against stacks or enemies that would seem impossible.

As an example, in the Death campaign I had a combat against another army with 15 or so Devils (plus a lot of othe creatures). The problem is that I can't protect my main hero against the Devils and with no immortality potions I'm pretty much toast unless I deal with them. This was an outside town battle so I couldn't afford to lose the hero. My army had the upper hand, but only if I could keep my hero alive. With a plain combat hero winning would likely be impossible. However, my hero had dabbled a bit in Life Magic and had the Journeyman's book. So I had the spell Martyr. So I let my stack of 80 or so Vamps take the damage the Hero would have taken instead. Regenerating that damage was no match for my Vamps.

It depends on difficulty. If I played on Impossible I would almost always get Archangle as rank. And I'm not a ToH player (at least not yet).

Try looking in the "Library" for more information on scoring and so on. There are a few threads detailing this.

Ouf ! I feel better now. In every campaign you get a level 1 rank. That mean the ranking system sucks (or is really really strange), and the scoring system is bugged. I tought it was a good idea to detail how your score is made at the end of a mission. Sadly, it only shows that it doesn’t work really good.

Your score depends on things you can’t control because of the map specifications. Quests, number of castles, number of victories, etc... That means you can finish a mission where you played poorly, but with many easy quests & many castles & shameful victories (thanks to the month of the peasant) and have a better score than another mission you played well ???

This doesn’t fit. I must say I don’t have great ideas to improve the system. There ARE good ideas on the actual, but I feel I have no control & the computer gives me some random points in each parts.

Is there any official explanations about how the computer determines each part of your score ? I didn’t find them in the manual...

**Wayne's World Impression** "I'm a Leprechaun!"

My score for the first campaign was 2080 in 390 days, which made me a leprechaun.  (Off-topic: while it was boring running over the last 2 or 3 maps like an invincible tank, I enjoyed following the story of this first campaign.)

I do think scoring is very important and should work.  It's a way for people who won't play MP to get some kind of "grats, you made it" reward.  I believe it should be based on how many casualties you take in battle, from your first battle to your last.  This way, even if you're a chronic re-loader (and who isn't) the game will somehow remember ALL of your battles, even the ones you re-loaded after.

With scores based on that, things like artifacts acquired and towns developed will all factor in, becuase those things will help you prevent casualties.

No, sprites are cute!!! Imagine if there were goblins in the game, you might have finished goblin, I would have been so proud of you!

I don't think the rank making bugs. I just think that the score and the grade are to independant things now. Maybe, if you reload often, it doesn't decrease your score, but just the creature you will be at the end.
The idea to give penalties seems good to me. I always want to play without restarting lost battles etc, (I don't always do aswel), and I have nothing in return!
But it should be well done. If you restart because you lost a battle, you have a significant penalty, and if yourestart just before you stopped to do something else, you have a small, or maybe no penalty. Ofcourse it's not perfect, if there is a crash and you're obliged to restart a lost battle, it's not really fair, but...

If only I could play online... It would certainly change my bad habit of reloading. They should be penalties. But it would be difficult to do. For a XL random with huge difficulty you need far more than 10 hours. In vacation you play night & day. But in a normal case, if you can’t play more than 1 hour per day what happens ?

You can also finish some Small map in 2 hours without reload. It would be hard to do.

I liked your scoring idea Verilee, it’s a good one.

Ya, I agree. And I think scoring system/Hall of Fame should be used to encourage the players.

Yes, reloading SHOULD decrease your scoring coz more reloading means you turn the game into your favour more. However, it's very difficult to distinguish the "genuine" reloading e.g. you decide to take a break in between a 10 hr game and the reloading you make after losing a battle. It will be IMPOSSIBLE to distinguish them.

What I suggest is to keep the original scoring system in h3 i.e. no penalty for reloading but instead have a figure maybe in bracket showing times of reloading you've made in the game. Maybe some bonus score for no reload during games instead of penalty for reloading.

Anyway, it's a game and game should be fun and make ppl happy.

Btw, anyone here who have play Master of Magic and enjoy it ?? MoM has a very good scoring system and you got bonus for nearly everything you have achieved in the game i.e. no. of enemies you defeat, no. of citizens in your empire, your fame level and of course difficulty level. All these are shown in the high score after you finish a game.

No ThunderKnight

It's very easy. When you lose a batle, the game creates a little file when it writes that you lost a battle and at which day. When you restart, it can knows if you lost a battle later that the day at which you restart.
In the same way it can know if you restart a lot of days before this at which you exited. It just have to put some falgs at some precise moments.

I’m waiting to really master the game before making XL maps. Ooops... THE XL map.

For now my best score in single mission is 541 (mode Adavanced – Days 39) on the Small map “Manifestations”. My rank is Air Elemental.

maybe campaign hi scores are buggy but the scenario hi scores are not. maybe if somebody tried to finish campaigns on champion they might get a high level creature this time.

i grew tired of the campaigns but i managed to finish death and life (about 2000 points each (i forgot what creature since my scores got reset).
