That means no multiplayer patch and no HoMM5!!!
They acctually wrote that there might not be a multiplayer patch!!!
We are all doomed.....

You're wrong. A lot of people at NWC has been laid off or quit, true. But Kate Hedstrom has on numerous occations assured us that there will be patches, as well as a HOMMV. She has been more reluctant to make promises about the M&M series, though.

On a side note, isn't it rather a bit premature to announce there would be a HOMM4 expansion as well as HOMM5? Most companies like to keep silent and only when they're ready to show the game do they finally confirm it. They like to say, "it has not been confirmed at this point" or "that decision is up to our developer" or "we can't talk about that" blah blah.
Nice to know we've got confirmation already.. Just a matter of when.
And if you have a link to news stating that all of NWC has been laid off, please post the url.

Found something
I found the following text:
New World Computing Lives!
Svetac | 1:55 | Industry Buzz
These were the first words today that Christian Vanover a.k.a. Evil C told to the funs of the game at the Community, concerning the major layoffs in NWC.
"I can't say much, but don't listen to the naysayers - yes, a lot of talented people regrettably no longer work here, but we have a solid team remaining who will continue to make the great games we always have. It will be like the old days... we'll do it one game at a time "
Encouraging words for the fans of the both franchises, and that's just what we needed. According to this, one day there will be Heroes V and Might & Magic X. Well, we wish you all the best NWC. Stick to StrategyPlanet: Celestial Heavens for everything Heroes.
The URL is: http://www.gamespydaily.com/news/search/index.asp?function=search&search=Heroes
This is acctually a search I made. You can find some info about a lot of Heroes stuff.

Bridge Not Crossed
Whenever someone mentions HoMM V, I throw my hands up into the air in a humorous fashion
Until the fourth game is patched with at least an acceptable Artifical Intelligence, No Memory Leaks and Multiplayer (the Three Wishes), talking about HoMM V makes as nuch sense as talking about HoMM XXXIII.
In any case, it's a testament to this game's incredible quality that scores of people are still playing the game even in the absence of the Three Wishes patch.

Sounds a bit suspect if it's posted on a swedish site.. If this kind of news is confirmed to be true, wouldn't we be more likely to find it on english sites before the swedish and russian sites get the news? What does 3D0 do when they announce things, report it to foreign websites first, and then a month later tell the rest of the world?

It was on Gamespy. I said that they got the info from Gamespy. Gamespy is English.

Kate Hedstrom has been sacked - I saw it over at:
http://www.strategyplanet.com/homm/
last week.
Celestial Heavens seems to be the place for HOMM4 and 3DO info.

No dev or publisher would risk a franchise like HOMM or M&M by not putting out a patch with multiplayer. That is financial suicide.
That said, it's also not unusual (although it's unfortunate) for a dev to lay off team members after a project is finished. They simply don't have enough work to justify a full team and probably don't have the full go ahead for the next project. That is the way the devs I've worked for have been run, so i wouldn't worry too much.
If they don't fix things in the patch and ONLY add multiplayer functions, then I would start to worry. And if they don't announce an expansion shortly after they put out a patch, then you can officially worry.

the one thing that bothers me - if 3DO/NWC don't care anymoure about HOMM... then they'll not spent extra money to programers&artists&QA working even for one or two months making a patch...
Except if this patch will cost money - then I may believe that they are workin' on it.

Well, it doesn't really take a full team to do a patch. You'd keep your main progs, a few artists(because they won't be adding new content...probably just tweaking things), and some of your QA team.
But from experience, it's normal to do patches this way. It only takes a few people to do one.
To me, it's more worrisome that they laid off part of the team because it suggests that they haven't gotten the go ahead to do an expansion for HOMM4 yet.
Usually, a few from the main team stay on to finish a patch while the rest of the team gets to take their vacation. Then once they get back they are put on a new project, usually an expansion if they typically do theire own expansions...
So laying them off suggests that an expansion isn't necessarily going to happen, which would suck. This game needs a patch and an expansion for it to really supplant HOMM3 and appease the fans.
