I try to stay away from backwards incompatible changes as far as possible, but still evolutionary improving the core. Storing *.bin files in EraPlugins directory was a Era 1.xx rudiment. There were two issues with it:
1) It was never clearly specified, when those patches will be applied. Before WoG patches, after them, after game window appeared on anything else.
2) Directory is primary for plugins, patches should not spam it.
Era 2.0 introduces two subdirectories: BeforeWoG and AfterWoG. Patches from them are applied before WoG initialization and after accordingly. Those directories were documented in manual.
---------------
I'm really glad to see H3SW project development and carefully listen to mod makers needs and objections.
Val, there is no changes till 2.8.4, that could broke any well-known existing mod, relax ))) Only !?MP trigger and receiver need the whole rewriting, because they are implemented in the wrong way, intercepting work of parallel music thread and causing crashes. We want to allow multi-core processors to be used with HD mod smart scaling. I will provide online service to convert your scripts automatically or even do it myself.

Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Succession Wars is an international project receiving help from HoMM community members all over the world.
The most important "freelance" contribution was made by the members of Heroes Of Might & Magic III: Horn Of The Abyss team in the shape of graphical materials and minor programming adjustments.
Some of these materials are shown in this post: enjoy the character portraits by Docent Picolan! Several of them could be seen in some of earlier H3SW builds or the recent project trailer. Progress in this direction is ongoing, so more new heroes will be available in future. For now, you can let us know which character you like the most

At first glance, I though they were all portraits I knew from the original game; I didn't understand the news value about it at all - until I took a closer look and noticed the numbered portraits. The fact that I initially didn't think they stood apart from the real originals says something about how amazingly close in style the new, numbered portraits are with respect to the original ones.
I'd say that they are an amazing piece of work .

I will agree that the portrait of Verhoffin is amazing (hopefully he does not go all emo and blow us all up again the nasty lad),
I would also give a special mention to number 10 because of the distinctive use of lighting here, but it's all very high quality indeed, kudos to Docent the master of HoMM portraits and the whole team cheers lol

Anyone else noticed that "borders" (roads, underground gates, passages from a terrain to another) are 90% of the time guarded by tribals on random maps ?
I wonder what causes that.

Those who visit our official forum on Forums of Enroth have probably seen the newly opened section for H3SW user-created maps. The forum staff is busy developing an Internet resource for storing and rating the maps, which is intended to keep the fan-made H3SW maps as well.
For those who are fed up with native v0.8.1 maps can enjoy first user-made maps created to be played with the actual H3SW version.
DOWNLOAD LINK
Map list:
S - The Ultimate Mug of Ale by Ctesiphon
M - Migration by Ctesiphon
M - Parental Guidance by Ctesiphon
M - Stench from Below by Ctesiphon
M - Oriole Island by Ctesiphon
L - The Chain by Ctesiphon
XL - Arna Road by number128
XL - Fated Circle by number128
XL - Sisters to the Slaughter by number128
XL - The Last But Not Least by number128
To play, it is enough to copy the contents of the zip archive to the folder:
<your Heroes 3 directory>/Mods/The Succession Wars 0.8.1/H2MP/
To leave a review or make your own thread dedicated to a map, feel free to visit the respective subforum:
http://heroes2.forumactif.com/f43-h3sw-maps
P.S. Warning for mapmakers: the state of graphical files of the mod, gaming mechanics and balance might and will be changed in every update of the mod, so maps can lose relevance and will require some mending even after the release of the next v0.8.2 update.

I think there might be a bug with Yog Magic resistance specialty as some archers in a witch castle, without any hero, resisted to my magic arrow.
PS : cool maps !

Here is a saved game, maybe a couple of weeks after the incident occured :
https://fromsmash.com/A~X_jTZiqH-c0
I finished that game and haven't had the problem in the next 50ish battles with yog.
EDIT : I played again on my last saved file (same game) and it happened again.
Same situation : attacking a castle without a defending hero. This time its druids that resisted my lightning strike.

This has probably been asked before however I've not found the answer. Is there any way of playing multiplayer online with h3sw?

Currently, there is only one opportunity of playing online: via using services like GameRanger (a little trick with EXE renaming will be required though). Basically, you have your h3sw.exe, and you will have to rename it to Heroes3.exe, backing up your vanilla H3 executable somewhere. All players should have completely identical contents of the game+mod folder to get things working (in terms of necessary game files/game version/mod version at least, HD Mod settings don't count). Then, you are supposed to launch a Heroes 3 online game via GameRanger and see what happens.
A recording of working example of such connection (outdated H3SW v0.8.0 build): WATCH VIDEO ON YOUTUBE
In future, there might be a possibility to somehow get access to HoMM3 online lobby being developed by Baratorch, the creator of HD Mod for HoMM3.

Probably at this moment Radmin VPN is the best way to play MP. At least for original H3 it works fine, much better than GR.

We are working on the implementation of campaign mechanics and doing the first baby steps in the implementation of the new magic system. The latter concern the availability of new spells in the Mage Guild for the heroes to learn and some tweaks in spell mechanics, including mass-versions of spells.
