1. Click the link
2. Register
3. Click launch game
4. One of the menus above the chat contains character sheets
5. Click on the one designated to you and choose to create a custom character
6. Roll for stats
7. Cry to Geny for help or read a rulebook (or just the part about wizards and wizard-related stuff. You could also read a quick summary of the basic rules on Role20 itself)

Note: Roll20 doesn't allow you to launch a game on mobile (and that's why I won't be able to finish my character until tomorrow evening).

For the record, if we have an overflux of players I am willing to step down as well.
I already have two weekly regular 5th Edition D&D games, so I don't need to hog a spot if there is someone else here who wants to play 5th Edition.

EDIT: Or I can share a spot with someone else if there is someone else willing.

EDIT2: The reason I have not done anything else than roll stats is because I am waiting to see the rest of the party form before picking out what I want to play.

Hmmmmmmm... tell you what, I think I can come up with justification for having two separate parties traveling together. Everyone, go ahead and make a sheet, I’ll add two more to roll20 when I get home. This way, everyone will be ready and able to play, and even if some people drop out or end up not joining because of life, we can keep a full party.

If everyone makes it in, though, I could still handle having 8 people in the same party... by not having them be in the same party.

Effectively, I would have you guys traveling together and handling random encounters together, but once you reach dungeons I would have you split up and search for clues into two smaller parties, each with their own objectives and encounters, but set in the same place, so they are still technically part of the same encounters/ maps. Which means much less work for me, over-all.

So yeah. For now, everyone make some characters! We’ll see how all of this goes and if it works like I think it will...

Aaaaaaand boom. Two new character sheets, ready to go.

Edit: And Count, your rolls in the GitP thread were:
(4d6b3)[10]
(4d6b3)[16]
(4d6b3)[9]
(4d6b3)[14]
(4d6b3)[11]
(4d6b3)[12]

I can confirm that the dice roller doesn't work on every browser, and phones in particular seem to have a lot of oddness going on with them. It works on Chrome, Safari and Firefox from what I've experienced, however, so hopefully that helps! If it doesn't and you want to reroll, say, the 9, go ahead and tell me and I'll tell you what your reroll ended up being.

So uh, I got the basics for my character. And by basics I mean their class, level, and race.

I require assistance please. I am so bad at this

Also one question. So as a Wizard I fill in my spellbook with spells, but I how do I do that within the game? Like at a long rest do I just "study magic and then make a roll and if I succeed I learn a new spell of whatever level I was studying" is that how it works?

As a wizard, you have your spellbook filled with spells, yes, but you effectively have two different ways to actually scribe those spells into your book.

Method 1) Automatic Learning. Effectively, you will be assumed to be researching and developing new spells during your "down time," and when you level up you have a "eureka!" moment and manage to perfect a few of them. What this translates to in-game is that you know 4 level 1 spells at the start of the game (either self-taught or taught to you by your master,) and then you automatically learn 2 new spells of a level you have spell slots for every time you level up.

So currently, at level 3, you would have learned 4 level 1 spells (being a starting wizard), +2 level 1 spells (for leveling up to level 2), +2 level 1 or level 2 spells (for being level 3), since wizard level 3 is where you get access to level 2 spell slots.

Cantrips are separate from these learned spells. They are just magic tricks that you can do all day, and do not require pages in your spellbook in order to know them. You get new cantrips at the levels specified in the table (whenever the number in the "Cantrips known" column goes up), and normally do not learn them from any other source.

Method 2) Scroll Learning. Wizards can also add new spells to their spell book by finding, purchasing or otherwise acquiring scrolls for arcane spells that appear on their spell list. Normally spell scrolls are just used to cast spells without expending a spell slot, but Wizards are GIANT NERDS and can use them to learn new spells instead!

If a wizard has a scroll for a spell that they have not learned yet, and that spell is of a level they have spell slots for, they may spend 1 hour/ level of that spell and some magic ink to scribe the spell into their spell book. There is no roll required in 5e, you just automatically scribe the new spell into your book and you can prepare it in the future. If you scribe a scroll into your spellbook, it consumes the scroll, causing the scroll to crumble into dust upon your learning it.

Cantrips never have a scroll, and thus cannot be learned via spell scroll.

Currently I have given you the option to purchase spell scrolls for 100 gold/ spell level, which means that you can purchase some level 1 spell scrolls for 100 gold apiece, and level 2 spell scrolls for 200 gold apiece. These will allow you to learn further spells of your choice, and you can even say that you already used them to fill your spell book! You could also purchase a few level 3 spell scrolls (for 300 gold each) in order to have some additional known spells once you reach character level 5 (when you get level 3 spell slots).

However, to make sure this is clear, just because you have a spell in your spellbook does not mean you can spend a slot to cast them at any time! There is a difference between known spells and prepared spells!

Your spellbook contains all of the spells you know. However, the spells you actually have access to each day is something you have to determine. At the start of each day, you choose a number of spells in your spell book equal to your Wizard level + your Intelligence score modifier to memorize, and those memorized spells are the ones you can spend slots to cast.

There are certain spells with the "ritual" spell tag that you can cast from your book without memorizing them or spending a spell slot, but to cast them in this way you have to spend 10 uninterrupted minutes casting the spell. These make these spells useful for out-of-combat utility, and let you memorize more offensive/ combat spells without having to worry about, say, not having the ability to identify the properties of a new magic item.

Hopefully that helps answer some of your questions on the subject. If I didn't explain something well enough, let me know!

Perfectly explained Gnomes. So excited to be a magic caster. Literally the only class I ever play in video games.

I will need to continue my character creation tomorrow though as it is currently 10:00pm and I am tired asf.

Today is a busy day for me, but if you want you can send me what you want for your character (race, class, magic school, background, proficiencies, spells, equipment beyond the starting one) and I should be able to fill up the sheet properly tomorrow. If you don't know about some of these that's fine, just send me what you do know and we'll talk about the rest once I get to it.

I have a few questions about proficiencies.

Can a warlock learn Stealth? Also, does the mandatory race/subrace proficiency count towards the two proficiencies you can have at the start of the game? And, most importantly, can you learn new proficiencies?

Thank you,
The Count

Your reroll for your 9 was: (4d6b3)[13]

So you rolled wisely. All that remains is to actually put them into your character sheet... as a warlock, I recommend the following stat distribution:
1) Charisma
2) Dexterity or Constitution
3) Whichever one you didn't pick for 2
4) Literally everything else

Now then, as for skills, if your race provides you with a skill proficiency, that proficiency is in addition to the skills provided by both your class and your background. So you still get to choose the two skills from the warlock's skill list (which sadly lacks Stealth).

However, something you may have missed is that 5e backgrounds provide mechanical benefits in addition to giving you some roleplaying props. If you were looking to get Stealth proficiency in particular,
the Urchin background and the Criminal/ Spy background are both good options (these are the same as in the PHB, as far as I can tell, so use them as you will). Both also come with some starting items, tool proficiencies, which you get all of for free, and out-of-combat utility abilities as well.
