I put pineapple on pizza because the sweetness contrasts with the other salty ingredients. Any chef will tell you contrasting ingredients work well together. Except pizza nazis.

Very true fred. Another good contrasting food is salty chips and melted chocolate. Savory and salty. Of course you don't put this on a pizza but I was just adding it in.

I know, but when I said "ideas like yours" I was referring to your statement "what's stopping them from...". More specifically, if they realize that nothing is actually stopping them from coming up with culinary abominations they might do it. However, that idea may have never occurred to them had you not mentioned it, which is what I was responding to

I believe the biggest objections of our Italian friends are that you're essentially mixing three distinct flavors: salty (from the cheese and meat), sweet (from the pineapple) and sour (also from the pineapple). However, my experience is that after the pineapple has been baked properly, the sour part is pretty non-existant anymore, while the pineapple itself isn't even a major overtone of the pizza as a whole.
But hey, that's me, a guy who enjoys Hawaii labeled food  .

Well ... a grilled cheese sandwich with brie and strawberries or mandarin parts can be very tasty. It's not pizza, I agree, but I have enjoyed eating such sandwiches.

Not chocolate, but i've had peanut butter on a bacon cheeseburger with tomato, which is delicious(i had had my doubts after my cousin told me about it; which have since been expelled). I've also had dessert pizza, which is good. But also ONLY sweet.
