Do you think it's fair to pick Thant as a starting hero?
I mean he has access to permanent Animate Dead right from the start, Jeddite and Alamar at least needs Advanced Earth Magic before their Resurrection is permanent.
I know Mysticism is not a very good skill (unless you are like me and buff Mysticism and disable Wizard's Well) but perhaps permanent Animate Dead outweighs it?
I'm not saying Thant is the best necrohero, but permanent Animate Dead right from the start is still something.

Game would be unplayable if we had banned every suspected op things banning slow,haste,fly,dd,berserk,armageddon, hit and run,tazar,hack,gunnar,cloak of undead king etc and this list goes on. Everything can be op or pretty meh depends of situations.

I don't see any reason to pick any Necro hero over Isra. Magic heroes are all worse than good might heroes.

I agree. Necro after HotA balance change is ballanced. Septienna need basic Wisdom and adv. scholar to teach other Necromancers animate dead from thant.

@Otuken I also try to ban as few things as possible. I made both Resurrection and Animate Dead require Expert Earth Magic to be permanent though, so a small nerf for Thant, Jeddite and Alamar.

@zmudziak22 Thant is still the same, HotA or not.

Didn't HotA already nerf Necropolis enough? It looks already mediocre town with also nerfing Thant and Animate dead it would be even one of the worst town.

Even with the HotA nerfs and my Animate Dead nerf I still consider Necropolis a top 3 faction.
The biggest problem with Necropolis is actually learning Animate Dead, which is of course not a problem if you have Thant.

Top two are for me Tower and Castle and wouldn't put Necro to 3.rd place because having too much downside. 3 Necro units are totally trash, necromancy occupies one extra slot and not gaining much skels anymore, no morale, too slow army, no low level shooter etc...

Necro is still pretty good in hota, but it requires meticulous optimalization of skele farming which most players are incapable of.

This means that necro is good for the top tier play, and underpowered for the rest.

Well, no. You assume every early encounter will just help you raise skels, while in half of those encounters, you can just as well lose them all. Thats why you must have constant and operational chain, move skels out when certain mobs then bring them in at others. They are very fragile early and if you just keep bumping in every mob with your skels, you will end with none.

Besides, you don't even need the skeletons for creeping so the "chain" could be a very lazy one - just a second hero who hangs around.

Well yes in the beginning you need to be careful not to lose skels, but that goes for all level 1 units in the beginning.
But with Necromancy the goal is to destroy as many units as possible, sometimes you might lose 20 in a battle, but if you gain 40 it's a good trade.

I often pick Thant. He might not be better than the Necromancy specialists or Galthran in the long run, but Animate Dead from the start is still great.

Whether it's fair or not to pick him, well, the way I see it, there are a lot of things that are either overpowered or underpowered in Heroes, and yet we still love the games.

I think Isra is the best but maybe it could be better to pick Clavius in %200 difficulty as starting hero.
