Quote: UBW(again ufotable, not deen
Deen's UBW is unwatchable.
Fate/Stay Night was good if a little cringe due to the braindead MC.
Ufotable also managed to salvage UBW a route for me, which was a tall order after going down sorrow's path with Deen. Seriously I await Ufotable's vision of Fate route.

Fog Hill of Five Elements
Ok so this is totally worth it. Has some of the best fight choreography I've seen in months. And for only 3 episodes, the plot does make sense (even though there are plans to continue the series). Backgrounds are lit (made with a watercolor technique that resembles traditional Chinese illustrations) and the only weak side about the animation are probably the facial expressions. And all this was supposedly made by a small studio... the donghua (does it even belong to this thread?) has a bit of slice of life, drama and even some worldbuilding.
I don't want to spoil anything, if the amv I posted a few pages back isn't enough for a recommendation, just take my word for it that it's good and worth the watch.

It's pretty inactive here recently. Don't tell me you guys don't have time to watch Chinese rice stories?
Magatsu Wahrheit ZUERST - so far probably one of my biggest surprises this season. It's hard to actually point out what this series is about but it is set in a fictional early 20-th century Europe like setting with elements of sci-fi and magic. It has political drama elements, horror and mystery and action. Pretty unique and quite well written (it doesn't look like the plot is written "as they go" but seems to actually be well thought out through and through). The characters are pretty fleshed out and there are a couple of parallel threads. Give it a spin if you have time.

Just been busy a ton lately. Work related. And my spare time's been going into Genshin Impact. I started the second season of Fruits Basket, but that's about it. Still watching Jujustu and Danmachi.

Ah ok then. It's good you have a job in the corona reality Becasue I work from home I save around 1-1,5h a day by not driving to work, I have some additional time to spare
Danmachi has become pretty interesting, I wonder how our hero will get out of this predicament (situation has become pretty dire). Well probably with the use of some secret-uber innate power

Time to drop journey of Elaina, this has gotten embarrassingly bad.
Danmachi is barely tolerable as well. That villain monologue made me cringe, who writes this stuff? I was fond of the first season but it has abandoned the things it has set up and goes into seemingly random directions. The dungeon and levelling used to be a big deal, not anymore. Aiz used to be the driving force for Bell to get stronger, swept under the rag and never mentioned again. The city and its deities used to be more interesting and fleshed out. Then we got a worse spinoff with Aiz, a terrible season 2 and a benefit-of-the-doubt s3 which has its good moments but eh.
Meanwhile, I'm enjoying the higurashi different directions. But I'd recommend starting the original to any newcomer, this one drops major spoilers too early!

Danmachi ep. 7: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES YES YES
That ONE MOMENT at the end where he puts his arms up. Damn..... It got me genuinely excited.
EDIT: Obligatory rewatch of the minotaur fight. Man, that season was something else.

Yeah, although the bad guy was beating the crap out of him. Why does he need to be so lame at times?
But let's face it, this series hasn't reached season 1 level even once afterwards.

I'm about halfway into the second season of Fruits Basket. Gotta say, there's some really awkward and facepalmy moments at times, but there are also some pretty relatable ones too. It's a lukewarm feeling of satisfaction, even though I don't think they're pulling any punches. No idea where they're going with it, but I hope it gets a little bit more interesting.

SAO Ordinal Scale movie was actually decent. I'm in shock this is the same SAO franchise that I watched not so long ago in the form of Alicization. While the TV series was full of pathos and cringe moments (even to the point of me facepalming and rolling my eyes in disgust), there is nothing of that sort here. Characters, Kirito included, aren't irritating at all.
The "gang" behaves normally and it's fun to see them living their ordinary lives (most of the movie takes place in RL) or using the fictional AR device known as Augma. It feels quite realistic actually and the technology itself makes a lot of sense (Google Glass works on similar principles I guess) as opposed to the whole "Fluctlight" idea or Alice mild spoiler becoming a perfect android end, which is total sci-fi atm. The only part that might be a bit exaggerated is the antagonists strenght, it feels pretty artificial, even if his supposedly augumented by some sort of technology. But his (and his ally) goal and the underlaying scheme is reasonable (even if it's selfish).
The plot and even the scientific "stuff" in the movie make sense (for example how the Augma device might damage a brain). It's probably the best piece of SAO I've watched since the first TV series.

Really? I recall it as a retarded piece of crap that kept getting stupider and stupider until I could no longer watch. Would have to rewatch to remember why but that's unlikely.

No, I didn't have the "oh, more retarted SAO snow" moments at any point (well, maybe once when the antagonist had that maniacal laugh sequence). That's why I'm surprised actually Or maybe I was simply in a more forgiving mood, idk... but I don't actually have a reason not to criticize SAO, so the movie really does seem to be particulary different from the rest of the lot I think.
There were no:
- rape scenes
- Kirito crying and snowin' (Kirito was actually tolerable this time around)
- Asuna cryin and snowin' for Kirito (take Alicization where she was literally pitiful)
- Kirito saving the world on his own (it was actually more of a team effort)
But take all this with a grain of salt, maybe everything seems better after watching Alicization...

You took the words straight from my mouth Sounds like the things that annoy you are deep seated SAO tropes. And I've seen many people defend Alicization as the best version because it drops previously established tropes. It's a vicious circle trap!
At any rate, abridged version best version. The originals can't hold a candle to it

According to aninews, the previous danmachi ep shaved off 90% of the story. Including the descent to floor 20 that almost wiped Hestia's familia.
That explains a lot, it's all felt way too rushed past season 1.

That's worrysome. They literally don't have any reason to change story yet they do it. It's not like this is some backwood cartoon, but a popular franchise. The anime is mediocre as is, why make it even less?

Presumably they want to focus on the greater scheme of things and character clashes? Lack of resources? But the dungeon survival was good in s1, why cut all of that out :/
Atm it's hard to tell if the light novels have gotten worse or the adaptation is hella rushed and riddled with holes. But if cutting large chunks of content really happens regularly, well..
