My Lineups
Okay, since it's been 5 years since the last time I tried a creature lineup, I'll give it another go.
I'll start with the 'human' town.
(Unexplained abilities are from Heroes V)
Empire
Motto: The flame of life burns eternally.
Terrain: Grassland
Description: A mostly human faction that strongly believes in eternal life, and worships the Phoenix due to its ability to reincarnate.
Hero: General
While it is possible to buy rank in the Imperial Army to some degree, to even get near the rank of 'General' requires intelligence, diplomacy and experience.
Faction Skill: Resurrection
After battle, a number of creatures who were killed can be resurrected, based upon factors such hero level, skill level, artifacts and the number of Sisters/Mothers in the army.
Creatures
Basic (pick two of three)
Tenka Scout Tenka Skirmisher
While the Tenka are too fragile to survive long in the heat of battle, their speed, stamina and eyesight makes them excellent scouts.
Bold individual even among the Tenka who join the army, Tenka Skirmishers are nevertheless valued for their ability to strike quickly and then retreat before the enemy can mount a counter-attack.
* Flyer
* Superscout - Hero receives +2 to his sight range on the adventure map.
* Flyer
* Superscout
* Hit and Run - Creature can strike at enemy at 2/3 normal movement distance away then return to starting square before being retaliated against.
Militiaman Guard
Commonly known as 'the last refuge of the destitute', the Militia forces are most made of young men who have little to no prospect of getting any other job, and in many cases have debts to service.
Those militiamen who prove to have both the interest and skill are offered a place in the Guard, which, while still lowly paid, does off the chance of a better life, rather than just the drudgery of the militia.
* (none)
* Shield - Physical damage taken by the creature is reduced by 25%
Slinger War Slinger
Slings are common in many rural parts of the empire, as good stones are easier to source than arrows, and thus young men off the farm, rather than taking up with the regular infantry take up with the auxiliary troops.
By now experienced soldiers, war slingers are, despite their low durability, a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield
* Shooter
* Inaccurate - for every space away the enemy is, the shooter has an additional 3% chance to miss the enemy (do no damage)
* No range Penalty
* Cowardice
* Shooter
* Inaccurate - for every space away the enemy is, the shooter has an additional 5% chance to miss the enemy (do no damage)
* No Range Penalty
* Double Shot - The creature attacks twice every turn
Core (pick two of three)
Sentinel Legionnaire
Those guards who so wish, can receive extra training, and be promoted to sentinels.
Even more well-trained that Sentinels, Legionnaires pack an additional punch, in the form of being able to hit nearby enemies with pilums/pila.
* Shield - Physical damage taken by the creature is reduced by 25%
* Large Shield
* Shield Allies
* Shield
* Large Shield
* Shield Allies
* Ranged
* Short Range - Creature can do damage only at half the normal range
No Melee Penalty
Sister Mother
The 'Sisters of the Eternal Flame', often simply known as 'Sisters' are an order of healers, dedicated to preserving the lives of those loyal to the empire.
Those who rise high enough in the ranks of the Sisters become known as 'Mothers'.
* Healing - Each creature can heal 2 hitpoints per turn of damage from a friendly creature
* Cleansing - Creature can remove negative status/spell effects from friendly units
* No Retaliation - Creature doesn't retaliate to attacks made on it
* Healing
* Cleansing
* No Retaliation
* Fire Shield
Lion Imperial Lion
Considered a 'blessed' creature, lions are expensive to keep, but prove their worth on the battlefield.
The most fierce and intelligent lions are provided with better armour than their more common kin
* Large Creature
* Bear Roar
* Bash
* Large Creature
* Bear Roar
* Bash
* Magic-proof 25%
Elite (pick two of three)
Cataphract Paladin
Armoured men on armoured horses, cataphracts form the 'fist' of the Empire's armies.
The finest cataphracts end up as paladins, the absolute pinnacle of ferocity.
* Large Creature
* Jousting
* Large Creature
* Jousting
* Bravery
* Magic-proof 25%
* Armoured
Brother Father
While the 'Sisters of the Eternal Flame' are an order of healers, the 'Brothers of the Eternal Flame' are far more martial.
The most elite brothers become known as 'fathers'.
* Shooter
* No Range Penalty
* No Melee Penalty
* Caster
* Shooter
* No Range Penalty
* No Melee Penalty
* Caster
* Fire Shield
Champion Immortal
The finest mortal fighters in the Empire, Champions Fear nothing.
Blessed by their god, Immortals inspire incredible bravery in those nearby.
* Bravery
* Magic-proof 25%
* Armoured
* Unlimited Retaliation
* Bravery
* Aura of Bravery
* Magic Proof 50%
* Armoured
* Unlimited Retaliation
* Regeneration
Champion (pick one of two)
Phoenix Angha
Seen as symbols of their god, those of the Empire worship phoenixes as Divine.
Angha are even more revered than phoenixes for their ability to raise the dead.
* Large Creature
* Flyer
* Regeneration
* Rebirth
* Immune to Fire
* Magic-proof 50%
* Fire Shield
* Large Creature
* Flyer
* Regeneration
* Rebirth
* Immune to Fire
* Magic-proof 75%
* Magma Shield
* Resurrect Allies
Emissary Avatar
Believed to be spirits of the past who have been sent by their god to protect the living.
Believed to be their god himself intervening to aid them.
* Large Creature
* Flyer
* Regeneration
* Immune to Magic
* Enraged
* Large Creature

Cool ideas, but you only did one "faction".
Will you do more?

Yes, but it'll be slow, what with my decision to do things 'whole cloth' from the get-go.

I like how this takes a very familiar lineup and then makes it both perfectly thematic and completely different from the usual griffins-and-angels trope of H3+.
Question: how many towns are you thinking of doing? Having 11 units per town is pretty high, I usually think of it as a tradeoff between units per town and number of towns.

1) I put a lot of work into this. It's not just names, I also have to weigh each unit, to see if the abilities I'm giving it are really appropriate.
2) This is not my only ongoing project.

Thanks. In the past I've considered even more exotic versions of the Castle/Haven idea, but for now, this is it.

At least 6, but I'll have to see.

Same six as H2/4/7? Or something else?

Guy, there are proposals here in the forums on which people worked for months and years.

Plus, I keep rethinking my factions. In many ways, I find Knight/Castle/Haven to be incredibly annoying, because I really don't life 'racial towns' (towns with the majority of the creatures being the same race), but with Haven, it's rather difficult to do otherwise.

I know, right, maybe haven should be something like H6 sanctuary mixed with knights/samurais/ninjas.
