Harder than H2 and H4, if might heroes haven't a Wisdom.. I made several maps, an example Castle gets only Air and Water spells, Inferno gets Fire and Water, Tower gets Earth and Water, Rampart gets Air and Earth, etc or only Castle gets Water, Tower gets Air, Inferno gets Fire, Rampart gets Earth.. Quite funny game.. Stronghold and Fortress were interesting, thus only magic heroes get a Wisdom, not might heroes, but I disabled Armorer, Offense, etc, so magic heroes can't learn them.. I made H4 version, it worked well.. If freedom, and might heroes can't get.. So harder than H2 and H4..
10 skills! Or 6 skills in my H8 hopings..

Is missing the wisdom skill really a problem for the AI?
In my experience, the AI picks all kinds of random stuff and very rarely masters any magic school, keeping them away from mass spells until very late. This hurts the AI performance far more than missing out on wisdom.
My own solution to this is to simply ban all the useless secondary skills. That way the AI is forced to pick useful ones.

Yes it's a problem, it means they can't learn Town Portal, DD, Fly and Water Walk, which are essential to move around the map.
Which skills do you consider useless and what about heroes starting with or maybe even specializing in those skills?

Remember what? Only SS without a Wisdom, you hope to find a Tome of X.. I made one or two maps Yup level 1-2 handbook, and then Scholar, Scroll, etc
Play a WoG! So you get your satisfaction.. Thus TP, etc and then dismiss a Wisdom in the WoG..
Someone doesn't like AIs use a DD, etc Even if an easy opponent yet..

Remember that Heroes has never been an unbalanced game. It was developed so that plentiness of parties would be its balancing factor. Nowadays, people, for whatever reasons, cannot afford themselves to play prolonged games or play many of them, like 1000+. They want balance in every party they play, forgetting about metabalance. Balance in every party would dry a game, sterilize it. Also remember, that Heroes is a game about luck. Randomness is a major part of the game, and it's in its very core by design. You don't need to counter mass slow in every party, you have to be patient and play more games, learning how to use what you were given in the most efficient way. And the true win is a win when you have disadvatage.

I believe this is the way to go. If you give Wisdom and Earth Magic the highest values possible, then the algorithm will always pick them when offered and at least Wisdom WILL BE offered cause of the exception.

Given that (Mass) Slow is the best skill of the game all in all this new secondary skill would be a must-have. There's just so many combat tactics which rely on outspeeding your opponent.
In many games (e.g. many shorter games) you wouldn't neccessarily need Earth Magic on top.

I'll give you that the AI can't do poor manning but playing against AI gets boring no matter whether or not Town Portal, DD, Fly and Water Walk are in the mix.
Question is, is there a way to make the AI avoid choosing BS secondary skills or could you write a new AI engine just as well?
