"WHY A HERO CANT CAST A SPELL FROM A SCROLL IF HE HASN'T THE APPROPIATE MAGIC SKILL???"

To prevent Might heroes to cast high-level Magic. That's the privilege of the mage.

What i ment was that if a hero has the scroll he doesnt have to understand the spell, just "spell" it!

It's a matter of game balance.

I mean for the mage to be given something of the same magnitude of importance, you would have to hmm... gives him something that bestows on the Mage the benefits of Grand Master Combat, Melee, and Archery. This could perhaps be a Potion made by the Potion maker, or an artifact made by the Artificer.

A level 5 scroll works about the same way for the Fighter. It gives the aptitudes of three skills at GM level for nothing.

You do have Wands that give fighters the ability to cast spells, though the wands are for 3rd level spells or below.

All of these things are greatly imbalanced, the benefit is simply much too great when compared to other skills.

As it is now in H4 a Scroll simply allows the Hero to copy the spell to the Spellbook, when and if the Hero is able to learn the spell.

A Parchment allows a Hero to cast the spell at half the Spellpoint cost.

If you were to circumvent the restrictions for being able to cast a spell for a single level 4 or 5 spell, then you would have a relic class artifact. Doing so for every level 4 and level 5 spell you encounter???

(If I recall correctly the best Wands are Major artifacts.)

IT WAS JUST A PROBLEM OF REALISM.
ANYWAY, IN HOMM4 MAGIC HEROES ARE BETTER THAN MIGHT, NOT LIKE IN HOMM3, RIGHT?
SO COMPARATIONS BETWEEN COMBAT AND MAGIC ARE NOT SUPPORTED

The problem of Combat popping up too often has already been handled in a multitudes of different topics, mainly in the Axeoth Forum.

I agree that Combat does appear too often, but please discuss this in the other exisiting topics. This topic is for discussing additional secondary skills.

About realism. I'd say the pure fighter casting fifth level spells is what defies realism. No training in casting spells should mean no spellcasting.

I'd not say Might heroes are better than Magic, and anyway that division of heroes is not really correct any more. There are a few recent topic discussing this also in the Axeoth Forum. (One of the was started by ThE_HyDrA.

Hmmm thieving...

Here's my skill ideas.

Primary:
Scouting - no change
Secondary:
Stealth - Same as now (hero gets experience for sneaking pass),
except hero can't steal objects (mines, resources, artifacts,...)
guarded by the creatures.
Thievery
Basic = Hero can steal resources guarded by creatures.
Advanced = Hero can steal minor artifacts guarded by creatures.
Expert = Hero can flag mines guarded by creatures.
Master = Hero can steal major artifacts guarded by creatures.
Grandmaster = Hero can steal relics guarded by creatures.
Gambling
Basic = +1 Luck, +1 Morale
Advanced = +3 Luck, +3 Morale
Expert = +5 Luck, +5 Morale
Master = +7 Luck, +7 Morale
Grandmaster = +10 Luck, +10 Morale

Hmmm... what happened to Seamanship...

Well let's introduce a new set of skills. I've always thought it was unfair that there was 5 magic skills and only 4 none magic.

Primary
Logistics (welcome back my long lost friend...)
Basic = +20% movement on adv. map for hero and his/hers army.
Advanced = +40%...
Expert = +60%...
Master = +80%...
Grandmaster = +100%...
Secondary:
Pathfinding
Same as it is now.
Seamanship
Same as it is now.
Speed
Basic = hero gets +1 movement in combat
Advanced = +2 movement...
Expert = +3...
Master = +5 movement and also flying ability
Grandmaster = +7...
(Perhaps speed also should increase the stat called speed, but as it is now there are all of these camps around the map so I think there is no need to.)
