MapHaven inviting HOMM4 maps
MapHaven's HOMM4 database is open, and I'm looking for people who have completed maps to submit them to MapHaven. (Besides other sites, of course; see below!)
MapHaven's Strengths:
1) MapMakers can enter a lot of information about their map for people to look at before they download the map.
2) MapMakers can update their map at any time without an administrator being involved.
3) Players can submit ratings with comments *very* easily; and reviews if they want to tell potential players more about the map. This information is displayed on the details page for each map, as well as being summarized in the search engine.
4) The map can be looked at and downloaded from MapHaven even before one of the admins has approved it (the map details page URL is assigned immediately and is permanent).
Possible Disadvantages:
1) You have to tell MapHaven an email address when you make a login there.
2) You have to zip your map with a text-file that fits MapHaven's template.
3) You have to supply the email address of a playtester (other than yourself the mapmaker) who has played the map to completion when you upload the map to MapHaven.
Hmm ... from a player's perspective those disadvantages are advantages. They make for more easily contactable mapmakers and better maps on average.
Anyway - :-) on a slightly different matter, if anyone knows of any HOMM4 sites not in MapHaven's links section, I'd like to know so I can look them over and put their links in!
(MapHaven also accepts Wake of Gods maps, in the HOMM3 section, treating the unofficial expansion just like any official one.)

DragonSister,
After uploading a map, how does it get the green check mark for "approval"?
Thanks :>

I've been making one map named: The Life of Hobbit. It is a single player map and the main character in it is, yes you guessed it, hobbit. There are no heroes, towns or mines in the map. It is strongly story based map and there are many locations to visit and revisit. For example in the tavern ,which is located in the starting village, you can buy food (in the case you have runned out of food), drinks (increases your morale but watch out for not drinking too much), heard stories, have a tavernkeeper's quest or play a game of dice (where you can either win or lose as that game is luck based). I'm propably going to send it tomorrow to your site. I'm going to let one of my RL friends to test it tonight. The map was almost ready when I began to include a journal to that map.

Wow. That sounds cool and complicated. The only sort of map I make is a regular, you know, kill everybody maps. But one thing I don't like about some maps I download is that there is absoulutly no Landscape objects, which for me greatly improves the fun,and I usally play longer because of that and I can tell people don't take time on their perticular map.

Kevyip: the green checkmark replaces the red questionmark when one of MapHaven's mapmasters has checked your map over - 'approved' it - I did that last weekend, for your map. (been busy and not checking HC every day - sorry.)
Thunder, I see your 'hobbit' map on the system - but I'm at work now, and can't look at the map itself yet. Not sure I'll get time tonight, either :-( but if I don't, then Cremorn will look the map over tomorrow night. Until then, for other people to download it off MapHaven, either you give them a link to the map details page, or they go to 'Heroes 4, Maps, Advanced Search' and check the 'unapproved' box - then their searches will turn up your map. (People have to be logged in for that 'approval status' option to turn up in the advanced search. And when you're logged in, your own searches always turn up your own maps.) It sounds interesting.

ty for the sidescroll. Could someone please delete the above comment so I can read this topic without scrolling side-to-side? Unless the above poster decides to edit and remove those smilies, of course.
EDIT: Thanks

Is there any particular reason why whenever I click the link to Maphaven I end up bombarded by ads and redirected to some completely unrelated site? I've tried finding your site via google too and it doesn't seem to work.
(I'm using Google Chrome in Australia, if that helps)
EDIT: Tried with Firefox too.

I just realised when I checked the dates. Seems that guy that created the sidescroll bumped an extremely outdated topic...
