I have played prolly 30+ randoms now and I still dont know what to expect in them. All I know is what template is bad and what templates give worthwhile games. But there is no set pattern for where a Utopia is gonna be. Only thing you may know is that there will be one on map somewhere. On XL map somewhere can be anywhere! So knowing templates in NO way compares to knowing fixed maps.
Motorschaaf... just give them a try for more than 2 or 3 games. Play 10 good templates. They will grow on you
