Well,if i had to rate the 2 games ,i would give a 9 to Heroes 3,and a maybe a 4 to heroes 4 ,few of the aspects of the new game that i dont like are:
1)heroes participating (and dying eventually, quite easily )to combat (very poor implementation of this new feature).
2)Bad heroes skill advancement system.
3)Less building option,unbalanced economic system.
4)Less creatures
5)Less races
6)Slow pace of the game ,i suspect because of the wrong scale of the objects and buildings in the map(buildings and objects are oversized comparing to heroes 3 ,and the result is that you accomplish less actions in the same amount of time ),thats why i guess i have a feeling while playing HOMM4 that the map is somehow "empty"....
7)Multiple spell casting (from multiple heroes and/or creatures ) during one turn,resulting to an interesting but also chaotic outcome.
8)Very bad multiplayer capabilities(no need for further explanation).

I have never played Heroes 4, but from being here 2-3 hours I get the idea I wouldnt like it. It appears to be a overly complex game that was rushed through to get quick money for the CEOs. I am quite sure that I wont get it, and I'll wait for Heroes 5 (hopefully it will be better). Heroes 3 is fun, and I'll rate it over Heroes 4 any day.

H3 is a great game.
H4 is not. Gameplay is much slower, build strategy is obvious, etc. But it is well balanced. Magic is not too powerful. And I don't think multiple spell casting is so bad.
Does anyone else really hope that H5 could be a great game again?

i kind of agree... there's one point in the game where no matter what i try to complete a quest, the game kicks me out... always at the same point... just closes down and puts me back to windows.

H3 was good until the H4 arrived and now I have the Gathering Storm. It's the best!

And there is no way you can create a limited time map!
There is, and it is really simple. For example you want that the red player survives for one month.
Timed Event (occurs on day 29 and only if the player is red): Win Red Player.
That's all you have to do.

I was so looking forward to H4, having played H2 & H3 for so long. Then I was so disappointed. The AI was appaling, and the spells creatures could cast unbalanced the whole thing.
As I only play SP these were serious problems. Fortunately I was able to return it to the shop, and replaced it with AOWII. Which was much better, but not as good as H3, which I am now back to.
I shall wait for H5 to be out for several month sbefore I decide to get it, just in case it's even worse!

Those who are playing Heroes4 should be considered trators.
homm4 - is half diablo, half - hydra knows what; it is not the game which gathered us here.

Does anybody think anything else?
I don't say that homm4 is bad, no! They are good because they are heroes! But Heroes for me is:
a) Not wery good painted graphic (just like heroes III, you know its medievil and everything there must be easy)
b) Good muusic (not this boring celtic motives  they really makes me snore, only good music is one of battles music/ but i prefer Age Of wonders II and heroes III and II battle music)
c) Good gameplay (i really stomped of hIV gameplay, it is too B O R I N G!Levels are same!)
d)Good Castels (i hoped that there are more casteles and with better view, they really looks ugly!)
e)Good Creatures (I don'tt say that they are too bad in HIV, but they are not much, were are gremlins? Freedom to the gremlins!)
f) HEROES ( sure heroes IV is heroes, but they are not as heroes as heroes III, for most of parameteres!)
Rersume: HEROES III IS THE BEST!

Yes, H4 didn't gather us all here. But on Lands of Axeoth... Or on Altar of Wishes... Just look how Lich_King is scared - because he's a real fan of the fourth part and he thinks that you might be able to kill him... using your dragons... 
To be serious, I think that everyone has his own right - to play H4 or not to play H4. I love Heroes 3, but neverthelass, I think H4 is good too. And if you think that HMM4 players should be considered traitors then you're a traitor yourself. That's it.
P.S. Maybe if Lich_King mobilizes all his Vamps, and if he already reached GM Death, then I don't think any ranger will resist him...

ERM is the scripting language in the Wak of God expansion.
Using ERM you are capable of changing objects use, creature stats and etc.
To me ERM is too hard to understand ! 
But I still like to play both H3.WoG and H4.TGS !
These are different games and everyone has thier own opinions. And calling the others, who play as a triators is very very silly.
We live in democratic ages and everyone plays, what he wants !

ok, IMHO this is what i think the problem with h4 is:
a perfectly good strategy game (H3) with hints of role playing (the heroes)has now tried to be a full-on RPG. now, h4 is just a turn-based RPG with hints of strategy. The hero is now too important and the creatures not important enough (hence the whining about number of creatures that can be hired and the creature building tree). The problem is that when we start judging h4 as an RPG, there is no way that it can compare to such games as baldur's gate and diablo. Heroes of might has jumped categories into a much more advanced one in which it has no way to compete.
I loved h3 because i was able to make exact decisions about where my hero was going that day, and which exact hex to move my troops in battle. that was a major attraction: the precision of the gameplay. now, in battle, all the little squares make it difficult to gain any real precision. and the retaliation system is a little chaotic. i can never tell if the creature i'm about to attack is gonna retaliate or not.

to make it short, this is wrong with H4:
1. the graphics are a joke (good??? next thing you blind tossers say H2 graphics were better than H3s LOL...)
2. the master strategy part is out (chaining, hero specials, Town building specially money - MORE strategy in H4? loooooool and i bet you beat the comp on 200% nin h3...)
3. less towns, less creatures, no upgrades, no more playing (no, what some of you noobs do is NOT playing...)
4. the Comp seems even more brainless than in H3
5. All Over the great feeling when you played H3, even on many of those cool single player maps (H3Trio stuff like fall and rise, lord of war and so) is GONE

I like H3 and H4 the same.  Each has its strengths and weaknesses, but they are both fun. They are both installed on my computer, and I play both on a regular basis. Maybe my expectations were different, seeing as I didn't buy H4 until I was sure it wouldn't replace H3, but I'm not disappointed at all. God_boy's right: They are just different games. Take H4 on its own merits (and lack thereof ) rather than continually examining it in relation to H3, and then they both look good.
Of course, H5 should be the best! (hope hope hope)

always nice to be supported but don't get me wrong. i don't even touch h4 any more. i am all for h3.
and maybe they shouldn't be judged as different games. one is the sequal of the other and so by definition has to be better. if was it was different they wouldn't have put it in the series and they could have called it something else of might and magic.

hummm... i think that (from what i hear on this thread) heroes 4 is more of a stepping stone on the way to 5 then a realy good quality game.
