help with WIN XP firewalls
Here is some tips for people who are lost trying to get rid of firewall in winodws XP...it is not recomended to disable your ICF completely, however I thought it prudent to help as much as possible, and included instructions to do so.
NOTE: If a firewall is set up to protect the ports of a computer that are connected to the Internet, it is not recommended to open these ports as they can be exposed to other computers. Specific computers cannot be granted access to the open ports.
To open the preceding ports:
1. Click Start, point to Connect To, right-click the network connection that is firewall protected, and then click Properties.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings.
3. Click Add in the Service Tab area.
4. Enter a description for the connection and use the loopback address ( 127.0.0.1) for the required Internet Protocol (IP) number.
5. Enter both a port number and type for each port (the external and internal port numbers should be identical). The port ranges may not be specified.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 as needed for each port.
7. Click OK to exit each window.

To manually open a port:
1. Click Start, and then click My Network Places.
2. Under Network Tasks, click View Network Connections. (Or, you can right-click My Network Places on the desktop, and then click Properties.)
3. Right-click the connection that you use for the Internet, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings.
NOTE: If the Settings button is unavailable, ICF is not enabled on this connection and you do not have to open any ports (they are all already open).
5. Click Add to open a new port.
6. In the Description box, type a friendly name. For example, type File Sharing : Port 445.
7. In the Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network box, type 127.0.0.1.
NOTE: You can specify the IP address of an internal computer; however, in most cases, you use 127.0.0.1.
8. In the External port and Internal port boxes, type the port number. In most cases, this number is the same.
9. Click either TCP or UDP, and then click OK.
10. Repeat this process for each port to be opened
Disable Internet Connection Firewall
1. In Control Panel, double-click Networking and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
2. Right-click the connection on which you would like to disable ICF, and then click Properties.
3. On the Advanced tab, click the box to clear the option to Protect my computer or network

If you cannot play any (Homm) game online at all, not if you host or if someone else hosts, maybe it 's due to different versions..
I had the same problem..
Almost everyone @ gamespy has version 3.0
Check your version & update if needed..
If you have the GS expansion, you can visit my page:
http://members.lycos.nl/pietjebellpietjebell
Which has the updates online..
Else go to: http://dynamic3.gamespy.com/~homm/index.php?page=homm4/h4patches.shtml
Ye can find all the info u need here
G-luck
