good to see people are reviewing maps

The lords page is now fully updated with slightly modified rules, and the heroes page reset, and some minor graphics changes.  Now we need the maps readied.  Remember not to wholly change the theme of the map, just modify gameplay balance, and add extra stuff if needed.

Notice there is no more good/evil alignments.

Just a note Ves -- Do you recall that when we were making this tourny and maps, the one setting for each map was that the land owner( RED) was to have a slight advantage. The was a key to every map made.  Do you want to change that?  i.e. make all maps equally balanced.  

I just wanted to point that out in case you forgot that aspect of the tourny.  

And a note to all the people editing the maps.  Keep this in mind. That RED will always ahve slight advantage so should make it easier when looking over map to find the un balance.  

Hope this makes your editing easier.

Not that tired as much I will be working alot next couple of weeks but i would like to help at least with one map
If it is ok I will chosse one in random & will try Nighon if you want me too.
I will work hard & do my best to make it right so it will be enjoyable for all.
I would do two but I will be exhausted I have to pull another 14 hr shift again

thanks & I want to gelp as much as i can this is great & a great oppurtunity for everyone not to be mad at each other.

Icelandia requires little or no modification, I played hotseat, after studying editor for a while.

When I first opened it up red seemed to have a powerful advantage, however I would go so far as to say blue is the stronger color.

After saying this did you want me to balance this map a touch more for red advantage? or leave it as is?  

The one key factor I find making blue somewhat more powerful is also situational.. ie: need mass slow, but 70 master genies is not a terrible battle to contend with for 6 behemoths for quest artifact.. As well the hillfort on blues side makes for a bit of a bonus as well. But red has major dwellings..

..ok the map steadwick is made!

Originally Red hat 3 unprotected Dragondwellings..which is a joke as experienced players can take all of them form day1 on.

So i only let the main design of this map left standing, made some new things on it and i think this map looks quiet interesting now (well every mapmaker would say that to his own map).

Ok, ill send it today to andi and motor .. to let them do the final check.

I was the original Map maker for Ajit.  SO since no one has claimed that map I could offer to remake that one some. Although it was nearly perfect the first time I made it     j/k

Here is another example of some of the finer points that made the tourny unique.  Look below

Ajit
Neighbours (5, Invadable): Icelandia, Hammerlands, Vermillion Border, Soullake, Moulder
Lordship Value: 11
Land Mass: 10533 cubic km
Water Content: 8%
Terrain Type: Dirt
Common Resources: Wood, Ore
Scarce Resources: Gems, Mercury
Dominating Class: Fortress, Stronghold

*** There are map specifics like scarce resources to make the map more difficult in some areas.... My question is are all the map editors following these details when they are editing them????  

This tourny had a very very unique aspect to it.  It was not always completely balanced and the maps wee scarce of resources so maybe level 7 was not always atainable week 1 for example. Each map was different.  Just wanted to point this out and find out if the basics of the tourny are going to be changed?  

Now keep in mind since I worked on making this tourny originally, I am just pointing out how the tourny was originally designed and the mood it had.   Just wanted to make sure in the excitement of getting it started that these finer details were not overlooked if Ves wanted the tourny to have the same original feel..

Other wise if people are balancing the maps completely and adding the scarce resources in then all the map profiles might as well be deleted.

yes exactly

KEEP THE BASIC THEME/DESIGN THE SAME.   And there there should remain a slight advantage to red.  So when you do pick up a map to modify, read the storyline and its statistics for reference.

Kitten i looked up your map, and heres the result:

positive: -fly, dd and waterwalk removed from all towns,
         -the overall design looks ok.

negative: -red has no starting hero in town
         -red has artis to get and stat locations,        
          but blue has none of those, cant boost his heroes
          in any form and even has to get his town first
          over sea, ergo blue has no chance.
         -tons of ressources for red, too easy for him,
          and blue has too long ways over sea
          collecting em, need sea necklace or
          something.        
           

Í´ll post the result of every map i look over here, be it good or bad, to show what i expect from the maps.
So Kitten please take away some stuff from red and make blue a little more playable. (larger islands, remember landing on a small island takes 2 days alone).

Xar Steadwick looks good so far, theres stat locations, banks, fixed towns, challenging areas to explore.
2 things i´d like to be fixed: ressource/gold balance, too many ressources to get and too few chests...and the free mercanery camp at door, i never liked those, guarded its better.

im ready with black swamp, a nice map style i think. its an open map and both towns are fixed to fortress. the lack of ore mines prevents the map from being played the "typical toh" style. although there are trading posts, i think using the lots of fly hives will be the better way to play the map than to trade lots of ore.

cause of the hill fort in the middle and therelative short way to the opponent, i gave red no extra bonus but the fact of being first and a nearer trading post. lvl4 heros, log heros and tazar are being banned, and so are the relicts. its a no-relict map with 3 tombs on each sides.

First i would like to point out that i dont want to offense anybody. Maybe i sound more rough cause its translated directly from german into english.

Ok.

To Ves and Jinxer: I couldnot disagree more... TOH H3 needs a complete new set of maps, and therefore they should be balanced, or at least not meant to be an advance to one side. Maybe this tournament was meant to be like that, but we shouldnt care about that now.

My point is that the whole set of old maps like desert war, hourglass and so on shouldnt no longer allowed for toh reports.

This sub gives the opportunity to give H3 some refreshness. That should be at least a hole new set of maps. If they are unbalanced then no one will play them, or only on the advanced side.

OK.. i hope i could explain what i wanted to say..and i hope noone is taking offense of it.

NOt to cause a fight here.. don't want that at all..

But Xarfax, these maps are slighlty unbalanced in reds favor for a reason..

Red is defending home turf, this gives major bonuses both tactically, Strategically, and resource wise in r/l war.. The idea here is not that the best player will always conquer the land he is trying to invade.. Some lands are more difficult to attack than others and so on.  You don't just walk into someones country and expect to fight on even terms do you? The Defender (Red) should have an advantage.

I'd rather not see all the old vets in control of every land oin the map within a week.  Lets keep it difficult..

Also I'd like to mention that reading the rule set these maps are to be played at 160% difficulty.. I find this changes a great many things for me when looking at loose resources ect..  I'd hope to keep it this way. it would be nice to see some 160% fixed maps..

Will the difficulty setting be kept for the tournament? I hope so.  Battles are so much more interesting when the AI is using its wait command. And no Dumb hydra tricks.
