favorite HOMM4 creature, a second look

what's you favorite homm 4 creatures BY LEVEL?

1st lev::: imps   movement and mana stealing (later in masse is really nice)

2nd lev:::  harpys they get really tough with no retaliation and good combat movement.

3rd lev:::  vampires hands down for me ... movement, hp, regrowth, and a decent attack they have it all

4th lev:::  i am partial to phenixes, thunderbirds and champions because of how fast they grow...add in a lordling hehe and you are making some monsters fast =O)

EDIT::: how could i forget bandits and genies they r two of my favorites. Every town has favorites of mine =O)

I have to agree with the 1 level creature, the Imp. They just save you before you get vampires (but you usually get vampires on the 3/2 day...). They are good cannonfodder/retallion takers later too. You just get so many of them. In the start they are also good at scouting, sacrificing as lookouts/traders and at doing kamikaze attacks to gain more resources because of their high speed. And don't forget the imp bomb (attacking an army with imps in every stack, then draining as many spell points from the enemy magic heroes as possible, then attack with the real army) or the fact that you can turn them into skeletons!

lvl 1: thieves, their specialty is great on the adventure map, not only can they sneak past lvl 1's, they are invisible to scouts, which gives a clear advantage. + they're pretty fast

lvl 2: golems, the perfect defense unit, with almost no damage from magic, they are perfect for blocking line of sight as well as defending your shooters/heroes against the walkers

lvl 3: genies, the strongest spellcaster, makes an order army almost loss-free, with their slow and illusions, also got great power with their ice-bolt (probably the strongest ranged attack against lvl 3's and 4's with FD's), great movement and ok defense. even mirth is a good spell!

lvl 4: hmm have to say champions at this point, and mainly for their first strike, i would say mantis if it weren't for their low growth. champions have the highest hitpoints of all, compared to their growth, and with both retaliating and attacking good fighters. they aren't the best unit against neutral's but in an end-fight they are great for the mostly defensive haven. a first strike between lvl 4's is extremely strong, with charge being nothing more than a bonus (since it isn't in the stats).

other good ones: sprites, tigers, mantis, phoenix, ghost, vamp, bd's (bones), medusae, blacks, beserker, thunderbird, behemoth (i know i forgot cyclops, i don't like them, can't handle them, don't worry i still choose them ),magi, DG's, crossbowmen, monks.

lol, i just found out i almost mentioned the entire game

my favourite 1st is bandit...they can sneak around and steal stuff.  But kinda useless at combating though.

second...maybe medusa...no 2nd creature can do as much damage as they do...(60 medusa can kill 12 phoenix...can 60 harpy do the same?  Or can any 2nd creature do it?)

third...agree on vampire, they will just not die...and number increase with GM necromancy.

fourth...maybe thunderbird.  They are cheapest 4th level.  If you use lord as your hero they may even have a growth of 6!  (triple the growth of faerie dragon).  Robo dragon is also nice.  They are one of the enemy I have to think alot before attacking..to prevent losing any creatures.  They are just too fast, and always attack first.  And there's less combos of magic that work on them.

yeah, they're great and they can't be bound, i hate that. i usually have a vial of binding liquid with me and it stops most lvl 4's, it even slow down genies and FD's, so you can confuse them. but not the DG. there only bad thing + best thing is their size. on some terrains it takes only one creature stack to block them from your fragile units, the good thing is that they're the ultimate meat shield, high hp, high defense and immune to alot of stuff with which they can block up to 3 (!!) heroes/genies at once! in combination with your gold golems you have an unkillable back row (and that's were order's power lies).

lvl1: Imps.  The perfect scout with their impressive speed great at picking up resources, boosts army speed, drain mana trick to cripple enemy spellcasters and make superb sacrifice stacks.  The best expendable creature in the game, always nice to have some with you but no worries if you lose them

lvl2: Golems.  Great defense and magic resistance combined with high health and reasonable damage, these guys can even deliver considerable damage to level 3 creatures.  They're not too slow either.

lvl3: Vampires.  All in all, GM necromancy and skeleton transformer considered too, vamps are the greatest level 3 creature.  Large in numbers, hard to decimate (life drain), tough to kill because of supreme defense, high attack skill and no enemy retaliation.  Flying, great speed...  Wow, no other level 3 creature performs great in so many different situations as the vampire.  The only drawback is their relatively low health which makes them susceptible to high damage magical attacks.  I just love their animation too

lvl4: Black dragons.  Why?  Hmm, because they are better in stats than any other creature, immune to all spells and require armies to get them down.  They cost a lot and their growth is depressing, but a couple of these is an army on its own.  It's good to see them back on the throne.

For me

1st: Hmmmmmm I don't play usually with anything other than Order and nature, so I'm a bit limited on the ones I know, but from you guys have said I'd go with rogues.

2nd: Medusa for their excellent special

3rd: Genies for their ability to add masses of troops of nearly any kind as long as they are on the battlefield. Their icebolt is nice too and they make good (if expensive) scouts

4th: Gotta be Titans for me for when they are added to an army of genies they become kinda dangerous

Level 1 - Crossbowmen (Life): very effective (especially in the beginning of the game) - they don't have the range penalty and so they're great in flagging the mines (can kill lots of monsters with minimal losses).
Runners-up: Berserkers (Might), Sprites (Nature)

Level 2 - Medusas (Chaos): the stone gaze specialty makes them extremely dangerous (especially to weaker troops). Great shooter for little money.
Runners-up: Harpies (Might), Gold Golems (Order)

Level 3 - Genies (Order): the most powerful spellcasting unit in the game. Great spells, very useful in combat - but they need protection.
Runners-up: Cyclopes (Might), Vampires (Death)

Level 4 - Titans (Order): the ultimate shooter with enough power to change the outcome of every battle. No melee penalty and chaos ward makes them even stronger.
Runners-up: Black Dragon (Chaos), Phoenix (Nature)

Level 1 -- Sprites...no retaliation, flying, good scouts and "artifact retrievers". Crossbowmen are great as well.

Level 2 -- Magi with their poison spell. Apart from that, Medusas with their amazing stoning.

Level 3 -- Genies. Ice bolt does extremely high damage to anything not immune. Add to that slow, mirth and Create Illusion. Total kickass. Vampires might beat them though. Extrmely hard to defeat, drain life etc.

Level 4 -- Black dragon for obvious reasons. Faerie dragons are nice as well as mantises. Titans are quite good. Angels are the only ones that can resurrect your hero if he forgot to take an immortality potion (if someone knows how to resurrect a fallen hero, tell me please....)

 1-st level: I have no favourite: berserkers are brave but dumb, centaurus are not so good as in H3 and so on;
 2-nd level: Medusa due to her stone gaze;
 3-d level: Nightmare - when fighting against shooters that 'terror' spell makes you feel safe for free turns;
 4-th level: BD are the strongest in the game, but Devils are ultrafast and can summon Ice Demons, so that is the choice.

1st. imps or faries i think they are just perfect for scouting and the imps can be important later too to steal the angels or the phoenix the speciality with their mana draw

2.nd there is no favourite for me they are all bad
maybe the harpies or the minos but nothing i would take in an endfight

3d.vamps rule i think they have enough hp's maybe the genies because of the slow spell and sometimes the icebolt

4th.blackies are the best indeed u can make things with them like taking 100 mummies d8 but they growth is bad

i tend to thunderbirds because 6 per week is an amazing bonus if u have an gm nobility hero and the pits

sometimes the phoenixes are also very nice with dragonpower

1st Level: Berserkers, furious reavers and they are only so dumb as the player lets them be. It is still funny to see Berserk cast on them.

2nd Level: White Tigers look great!

3rd Level: Cyclops but Venom Spawns comes in close second. I really like their looks.

4th Level: Thunderbirds (the name alone is enough for me) and Faerie Dragons.

Overall: Cyclops. I don't like their graphics so much, but after some times playing with or against them in field battles, I have to say that I really like how they cause havoc.

I meant how to resurrect a fallen hero DURING battle. :-Þ If I lose Tawni what's-her-name in battle, I don't get the time to drag her battered rear to a sanctuary.

I am agreed with 4th lvl creature, newbie. But Nightmares? I will choose Vampire instead! With their regeneration, they hardly lose in battles (and with GM necro-spell you get a hundrad of Vampires with no cost!)

Mostly the usual but lets see I will chose by my fav from each castle.
(Stronghold) lv 1 I like the bezerkers, because they got a good amount of HP power & defense & can do some major damge, but none controlling can be tough.
Necromancer)I like the skeletons they are pretty solid & can do some good damge.
Haven) I like the Archers they got great range & can do some damage.
Asylum) a tough decision but since I dont think Bandits are really great except for thier speed I will pick the dorks.
Nature)Wolves can be deadly with thier offense & double attack.
Academy)I like the halflings they can be real pest to lv 4 creatures & since you can always give them the range with  a simple spell lol.

Lv2 Stronghold) I like the Nomads they got great speed & first strike & great power. You get alot of them so they can be deadly.
Necromancer)I like the Hounds heeh they got the no retaliation & can do some damage to some powerful units.
Haven) a really tough decision but I like the pikemen because they got great power & can hit you hard without the retaliations.
I think that Ballistas dont got many defense to survive.
Asylum)I like the Medusas because you can never defy the stone gaze lol.
Nature:I will take the elves because elves are great double shooters nough said
Academy:I will take the Gold Golems because they are really solid for a lv 2 unit & have the spell resistance & can be feared if they get close enough.

LV3 Stronghold)Everyone knows I will never deny the Cyclops for they are my fav creatures since heroes 2 lol.
Necromancer)I love both creatures but i will have to take the vampires because they are really tough for a 3rd lv creatures lol
Haven I got to go with the Crusaders they are really solid with a ward & can do double damage.
Asylum) I will go with the Efreetis because they are powerful & the toughest creatures can die off the fireshield
Nature) I like the griffons, probally the only of the two flying units I like too lol. They are tough to build but they are really tough to kill hand to hand combat melee & they are tough.
Academy) I love the Nagas they got the no retaliation & with the extreme power they have they are as tough as the Genies but in a dif way.Most opponents will expect your genies but I will tear them to shreds with my Nagas .

LV4 Stronghold) I like the Thunderbirds & you get twicw as many & is cheaper by half then usual but they can tear you apart with thier thunderclash that works pretty much 100% lol.
Necromancer)I like the Devils they can not only summon Ice Demons but can tear your most pesty units in any area & is pretty fast too.
I guess if I am playing mostly alot of human creatures I would go for the Bone Dragons since basically there is no retaliation with the fear in thier hearts when I attack.
Haven)I would go for the Champions they are pretty solid & hard to kill & with thier first strike you would weant to think twice then to attack melee unless you are say the Dragon Golems.
Asylum) you know me & my Hydras I will pick them alot in my games & I am deadly with them
Nature) I like the Dragon Golems & I know they fly but lool.
I like the spells they have, you can confuse the opponents or flame a bunch of them, also you can bolt them.
Academy) is the hardest choice for me to make here because I love both & I always loved Titans but they are not as tough without a good range so I will go for the Dragon Golems.
They are as tough as Champions if not tougher & cannot be dealt in with negative status & can tear you apart worst then a Champion I think lol.

As you can see I mostly go for the powerhouse units & can tear you to shreds
