Poll Question: The Potions...
Maybe this is a stupid question, but I am new, so I'll ask it anyway. How the snow do I use potions???????? I've tried many times but it will not work...
Edit by Nidhgrin: Official warning Rule breaking material censored. Please study the FAQ thoroughly and don't break the Code of Conduct again in the future or sanctions will follow.
If you follow the simple rules listed in the CoC we will get along fine.
Potions are used in a similar way as spells. In stead of spellpoints being used, one potion is being consumed at every usage. You can access them through your spellbook, both precombat and during battles.

Another potion question:
which potions can you drink BEFORE a combat and still get the bonus in the combat?
(maybe theres a list somewhere?)

Potions
Generally, potions are used by going to the magic menu, and then choosing to use the potion. Most (if not all) potions can be used from the adventure screen.
I don't know of any specific lists anywhere, but the best way to find out is to pull up the menu screen and see which potions are available.
Also, when you want to drink the potion, ensure that the hero who has the potion is highlighted, else you won't get the results you're aiming for.

Potion of Cold, Potion of Healing, Potion of Mana, Potion of Speed, Potion of Immortality, Potion of Toughness, Potion of Endurance and Potion of Strength can all be drank before the combat.

Now comes the most important potions related question...
Is it possible to make a hero use a potion on another character during combat? Like using a potion of toughness with hero 1 on hero 2? AND, most important, any way to feed a potion of mana to the spellcasting monsters? Or any other way to recharge their mana? I mean, mages are literally useless when out of mp.

potion handling
afaik, while you are still in the adventure screen you can choose who will drink the potion (not the case with every potion) ...creatures can only carry potions so you can't recharge your genies or nightmares when they are out of mana...

I am wondering about the Holy Water potion, the one that casts the holy word spell. It says that if your hero drinks it that it can give you Bless and Death Ward. I have never gotten it to work that way. Has anyone else?

That's because, you have Heroes IV 1.0, The latest patches and The Gathering Storm fixes this bug.
