Cheaters Cheats and Bugs

Ok people, you need to learn what the definition of a cheat is...

Based on what most of you are saying, that the "empty hero" bug is not cheating, well, on that assumption, then using a no-recoil script in Counter-Strike so you can fire your weapon unloading and not lose your aim is not cheating....

Using wallhacks is not cheating cause the programmers didnt code the game good enough, and you are only taking advantage of a "bug" in the code.

Using "unlock" codes for various additional units/gold/resources is not cheating because the developers put them in the game, doesnt matter that they are called "Cheat" codes.

Usint trainers is not cheating because they too, take advantage of "bugs" in the game code, allowing you to gain an advantage

To define: Cheating is the act of gaining an advantage that your opponent cannot or will not reasonably have. For example:
Using cheat programs gives you an advantage that your opponent will most likely not have.
Using the empty hero bug gives you an advantage that your opponent will most likely not have.
Using the town view bug gives you an advantage that your opponent will most likely not have.
Using trainers in the game gives you an advantage that your opponent will most likely not have.
Using cheat codes in the game gives you an advantage that your opponent will most likely not have.

Also, certain BUGS do not have to be listed as cheats, because they are, by DEFINITION, considered cheats.

Once again, ANYTHING that gives you an advantage that does not come through normal playing of the game, such as HEROES NOT HAVING A UNIT, or VIEWING A TOWN YOU DONT OWN, is a cheat. BUG OR NOT.

This is the same way in ANY game. I play alot of games, and I have yet to find a tournament where bugs are NOT considered cheats. Go look for yourself.

I used to run a HoMM2 tournament. We never stated what BUGS were cheats and what weren't. There was never a need to. BUGS are BUGS, not game options, so DONT CHEAT

I think I have stated my opinion in this matter. Feel free to flame/slam/whatever me. It wont change the facts.

One final note:  If it is true that every player uses this cheat, then that would explain my losses.  If this is true, I refuse to play HoMM3 against ANYONE ever again, save or hotseat. When you can see what I have, EVERYTHING I have, what use is the thieves guild?  What use is it for me to NOT buy units and hold out on them, waiting for the right time to buy?

It is stupidity to say that it is not a cheat.

Most likely, your opponent will be viewing your town. I think its about 70% chance.

Itīs not stupidity, its just being stubborn, and perhaps a bit overzealous. Of course itīs a cheat.. kinda, but everyone is using it and its undetectable. You can either accept reality or chose to live in your own reality (being nuts?).

I dont cheat tho

It goes like this:  I dont play games where more than 40% of the people are guaranteed to cheat.  If something like 70% of the players are cheating in HoMM3, then, as much as I dislike HoMM4 right now, I will play that instead, and only play HoMM3 against people I KNOW or in HotSeat.

So what if people dont agree, or dont like it.  If you cheat, you are a llama, and should not be in this league. If we cannot guarantee a cheat-free environment, I refuse to participate.

I dont care what everyone else thinks, or says, or does.  It is my perogative to not play if people cheat.  The tournament means nothing if it is plagued by cheaters/hackers/llamas.

When used in a gaming context, a llama is someone who has nothing better to do with their time than to go get cheat programs/bugs, and then utilize them in an effort to become the "top of the ladder" for that game, at any cost.

Once that has been accomplished, the "llama" will then do anything to stay there, while at the same time ridiculing those who would attempt to usurp the position from them, claiming that they are "noobs" or that they "suck"

Granted, it is mostly used in FPS games like Quake or Counter-Strike, but it has its applications in any gaming environment.

Unless there is a new "the_wiz" in town then I pressume the one speaking to be Vesuvius' old roomate.

Also, if using the town view bug is not to gain information then why would anyone be clicking on it?  Of course it is used to try to gain advantage/additional info about a player's opponent.

Haha BP that funny . and yes I have used this bug.And yes grey it is a minor advantage , but i dont know many vets dont use it and see it as a bug or cheat. More as part of the game. Also theres no way to tell if someone is useing it so why not everyone use it ? I think if anyone classes this minor bug as a cheat they need to relax a bit and enjoy the game. But thats my opinion , but im sure ToH honor council never booted anyone for use of this bug.

I was never Roberts roommate, and noone other than me has ever used the name "The_Wiz" in any HoMM league/tournament that has gone anywhere.  I was The_Wiz in the Oracle League, I was The_Wiz in the Isle League, I was The_Wiz when the ToH first started, it is me in the "The_Wiz" picture on the pics page here, and I am "The_Wiz_Isle" in the zone.

I have known and played with Vesuvius, TRoPPo, Prometheus, Mocara, Sir Alkis, Frank, Melissa X, Beowulf, and a host more since the beginning of the Oracle League, or when they came on the scene.  I am the original Wiz.

As for my comments, I have been bested by cheats for far too long to turn a blind eye to those of you who use the "bugs" to your own benefit. I have never condoned using such flaws, nor will I ever.  If you see fit to use them, dont play me. It is dishonorable to utilize bugs as "game features".  BUGS are just that, bugs. Things that were NEVER MEANT to be in the finished game.  By utilizing the town view bug, you can gain a whole lot more than just "seeing how much gold" they  have...

What are they building? Do they have their level 7 dwelling yet? Do they have a level 1 or two magic guild? What spells do they have?  How many creatures are at home?  How many creatures are NOT bought?

I dont know if all of that is true, as I do not use bugs, but I would assume that it is just like viewing your own town, based on what has been said in the forums.

Now, with the kind of information I can get about my own town, I can get a very good idea of what is going on with my opponent.  Not to mention that, if I do this every turn, I can see what he is picking up and get a good idea of how far from his base he has gotten.

Tell me that isnt a big advantage and I will sell you a bridge in the Sahara for $1,000,000

thats exactly the point: if we boot every player who uses/ever used this castle bug, who would be left to play TOH games ???
i say there wouldn't even be enough players left for a 2on2 because we hat to boot hundrets of the players - including me and the other honor council members. im guilty of using it in about 500 cases - maybe more lol
It is a bug - correct ! but its a bug which has become a part of the game for years now. whoever sais something else must open his eyes because he doesn't have a clue about what really is goin on in the Hommunity.

WTH

This thread is very odd, obviously coming from a player that nows very little about the current state of H3 gaming.

This bug is a well known as has been for years.  It does very little to help you out and is accepted as a `PART' of the game.

Sure it helps out within the first few weeks,  how many game last a few weeks...none. And once u get Exp earth or AIr along with view earth or air, which most players can get within a few weeks, the castle bug becomes a moot point..

So, in short it is not cheating to use this, all do, in all tournies.  It gains you very little, so why not live with it and come play.

I may be ignorant of some things here, and if I am I will probably end up regretting opening my mouth here. But I don't think you can see all of that. It's not like when you look in your own city. You just get a little square that shows you what city type they have how much money they are making each day and what troops they have garrisoned. I might be missing a few things here and there but you can't see what they have built (other then citidal, castle and city hall) or what they are building or what troops they have and have not bought, unless they leave them sitting in the garrison. At least that is my understanding of it. It's something I was shown because I had a bad habit of garrisoning my main hero with all of his troops when I was a noobie but it's not something I use much. The main thing that I am curious about is what city type they got (as I usually play all random) and I can tell that from scenario information or tavern.

NOTE: Majority said that the above mentioned is seen as a cheat. So stop talking crap in here and go back to Counterstrike!!!

what are they building...the only thing you will see is status of fort-town hall-cityhall-capitol-citadel and castle
and 5K resource build status.

after week 3 or 4 none of this matters and the neglible advantage you seem to be so pissed off about is gone.

Hmm I think u are a bit misinformed here (or perhaps I am).
What u can see with the castle view is:
* if a player has build townhall/cityhall or capitol (There's a different way for that aswell ofcourse);
* if he/she has build citadel/castle;
* what creatures the player has in that towns garinson.

That's it.
Ofocurse it is an advantage to know these things.
But like it hads been argued here before .. it is used by 99% of the players so the benifts cancel eachtother out!@
