Tournaments, deadlines, and playtime
I dont want this to turn into a flame war... that being said, on to the details.
WAAAAAY back in Heroes 2 there was this tourneament, the first and best of its kind. Even now it is looked to as the grandfather of all tournaments for Heroes, and as a matter of fact, I believe that the ToH was designed based in part on some of the principles of this "grandfather" tournament.
In this league, you were able to participate in 3 different kinds of games:
An Open game, where anyone could play anyone else, at any time, and the results would be tallied, and rankings changed.
The Main tournament, where there were a few rules... 1) You MUST be active as an open player. That meant that you had to have at least 2 games played. You were grouped up, every 3 months or so, against people who had the closest ranking to you, from highest down.
The Daemon Cave, where you could challenge a current class lord for their title. You had to be in the main tournament and active, and not lose any main tournament games to forfeit to participate in the Daemon Cave. If you forfeit while you were waiting to challenge, you were automatically dropped from the challenge waiting list.
Now, the main tournament consisted of 4 players per division, with each player playing againse each other player in their division, one game per month. Extensions were, as a general rule, NOT granted. If one player couldnt get the game completed, due to the other player never showing up, then the first player was awarded a win due to opponent forfeit. If neither player contacted the admins concerning players not showing up, then both were given a forfeit, and a loss. The forfeits were just like losing the game, and rankings changed accordingly. In dual forfeits, both players lost 50 points (I think).
Now, for 2v2 games, why not slow the pace down a bit? For one thing, forcing a game to be played during the holidays, and reported by Jan 2, is usually not a good idea. 2v2 games should be given, for a deadline, at least 1 month to be played, not one week. This is due to the unstable nature of getting 4 people online for more than 2 hours at the same time. Remember, to play this game, you need a big time commitment. It isnt Counter-Strike or Warcraft 3 where you can get a game done in 15 minutes to an hour.
Just my opinion, and suggestions. Take them as you see fit.

Not long after I posted the above message, I got an IM from someone who quentioned me, saying I am only here to, and I quote, "is your only target to cause trouble in toh? well if u wanna change something stop that whining"
Now, I have stated many times, I have been involved in the HoMMunity for FAR longer than most of the people who are involved now. I assisted with the original Oracle League, I CO-Created and was the webmaster for the Isle League with Mocara, I was even one of the VERY FIRST ToH assistants. The assumption that I am only trying to cause problems is not only an insult to my integrity, but also to my intelligence AND my honor. I am not about to post here WHO sent me that IM, because I AM NOT HERE TO START FLAME WARS, I simply want to assist with some SUGGESTIONS.
Now, with that out of the way, more suggestions. =)
With the mapmasters 2v2 defunct already, how about making a new tournament where the players are random teammates, every round? Make the rounds one month, 16 divisions, with 8 players per division
That means 2 games a month per division, one per team, 2v2 and 2v2. Now, after each month, swap the participants based on the wins and losses. for example, if team a player a and player b get a win during round one, then they will be separated, and put into a new division with only winners. Of course, sometimes there is a minor mishap and someone who lost the previous round will be in with the last rounds winners, but it is a good idea...
Again, this thread is for SUGGESTIONS and what not... please dont flame here.

sounds intresting BUT we have allrdy enuff problems when players that dont really like each other have to play "against" each other - now imagins what will happen when they are forced to play "with" each other. nice idea but impossible to do i think. i for example like 2o2s - but i only ally with friends becasue allied games are a lot about knowing each other and teamwork.

Good idea!!!!
Wiz i like your idea's, a good player will adjust to any situation given any ally.
I can see that your an intelligent person that is un-biased.
You are right 2 o 2 style games need minimum 1-2 months per round to finish if theres 6 brackets then it last's a complete season : o)
Motor u know i can't believe that u would actually ZM someone like that being a part of toh admin and all, u should look into getting some public relations skills man.

i im' ed wiz a long message and he cut the few words out that fit in his flaming. so i just want him to post the correct complete quote so it makes sense - i didn't bash him at all - i just wanted to make him clear that his posts which start usually with a bolt " I DONT WANT A FLAME WAR" usually turn into one 100% - and maybe it would be better for his ideas if he join The Team and help out some concrete plans - so please wiz copy that rest of that message here. thanks
You know dracos, its very easy to throw a bad light on someone by only quoting what you wanna quote.
and im not a TOH admin - admins are Kitten and Ravyn. im just a volunteer - but anyway does that automatically mean im not allowed to discuss here , have an opinion or play games - if its that way it would be its really a pity.
well i know this reply wont change anything and im still the badguy for a group of people (specially a group of people who have friends who had to face a decison they didnt lile) but u know what ? i will continue my job as usual - i wont stop cause some have a personal problem with me because Homm 3 is a great game - TOH is a great league and its more than an Honor for me to help as a volunteer and putting hours of work into it

If I had the ability to post the entire IM, I wouldnt. It would add to the flame war that you, by posting that you were the one who IM'd me, have fueled. I did not post WHO IM'ed me due to the fact that it was not relevant. Obviously you have some issues if you decided to post here stating that you do NOT have issues. You could have left it where it was, knowing my opinion, and let it be, but yuo decided to let everyone know it was you.
Now, as for me "assisting". As I told YOU in IM, I AM ALREADY DOING SO. If you had any idea what you are talking about when it comes to me being an assistant, maybe you would change your stance on my posts. Maybe if you actually read and understood my posts for what they are, you would not be slamming me, and instead actually applauding me. Maybe.
I guess I will have to stop posting my suggestions here, and simply let the tournament be run the way it is. No user intervention. So you go make your tournaments, do what you want, and let the players decide by not playing. Good call. I hope it works for you, because doing that is what caused the Isle League in HoMM2 to die, really fast.

You are assisting TOH? How come i never saw you than lol?
This is prolly the funniest thing i ever read.
Go back to the Clique that sent you to cause trouble like they sent Bjorn and stop playing the innocent "newcomer".
Funny time you arrived here, just when the flaming started - you think anyone buys this?

AndiAngel: Go get a clue. Talk to Vesuvius, or KittenAngel, or even Ravyn, about WHAT I am doing. If you need further proof, ask them to forward you the emails I have been sending to them.
Now, once again, I will state, I DO NOT WANT THIS THREAD TURNING INTO A FLAME WAR!!!
Can you people read?
