Stay Alive (still)
hi people,
Its my first time in internet since 3 months... as you know im in military camp... i missed many things in army, i have a huge list , and my toh friends are also on this list...
All my opinions are changed here ... i hope Usa never attack iraq and i could stay alive. Im near Iraq frontline and the situation is not good here ... The base i live is horrible for health condition but i used to live on - 30 degree I hate to carry my gun everyday i hate to clean this cold machine everyday... and im sick of seeing green camouflages everyday. One day i ll finish my military service and i ll return to my real life... Army is a game and all of soldiers playing this game seriously everytime...
Take care all of you , i dont know when i can connect again to internet..
Martigan i ll be back soon ( 6 months left )

Damn, things are looking pretty grim indeed! I don't know you that well Hamsi, but I know the threat of war is hanging over all of Turkey.
Lives shouldn't be lost over oil, unfortunately it looks as if that will be the case. Let us all pray that it never comes that far, and that you and your beautiful country are spared from the madness of war.
Madmartigan and Hamsi, just flee and take your families with you, if a war break out. That's not acting like a coward, it is being smart! I'm sure you'll be able to stay in Belgium as political refugees if a war starts in Iraq. Should it ever be necessary, you're all welcome here. Take care, and let's hope peace shall prevail.

Heh.. I wish imigrating was that easy. Yea, moving to another country would be the wisest. I, for myself, do not care about being called a coward or anything else as long as I know what I am. But, moving to new country is... something really hard to do for lots of reasons.
1st of all, all 25 years of my life I have lived in this place. I have my habits, I have my life, I have my order here. Adopting to a whole new people and language is not easy. Establishing a whole new life will not be easy.
2ndly, I will have to leave MOST of the things I love. My family, my friends, my home, my PC () etc.
3rdly, whether I like it or not, being a Turkish does not provide a good reputation, especially in European countries. And that is quite understandable. I am not an expert at this, but from what I see from the TV nearly ALL of the Turks living Europe portrait complete idiots of the Turkish. Women in turban and black sheets, men.. brutes wearing moustaches. I am sure the governments will not be willing to accept another of them. I'd rather stay in here and continue suffering when compared to being treated as one of them idiots.

I know imigration is a tough decision, but if it's either that, or having to serve in the army... Risking your life everyday while not knowing if your family and friends are safe... I would personally choose to run!
I'm certain that if a war starts in Iraq, you'll be allowed to take your entire family with you if you come here to seek sanctuary.
Adapting to a new country, new people, new habits and a new language would definitely be a challenge, that's true. There are indeed many Europeans who do not like to see immigrants come. My personal experience with Turkish people is that they are very friendly, and much more open minded and 'westernized' than is commonly assumed. To me, Turkey is just another part of Europe, only not all people seem to realize this yet Sure some second or third generation immigrant children spend a lot of time on the streets, sometimes doing stuff that isn't allowed. But integration is a gradual process, I know I would have a hard time finding my way too.
Maybe this is because Ghent is a city with a population of 50% students, but over here there are second generation Turks in the local politics! There are Turkish women wearing burka, but only a very small minority. And I am having a moustache right now Where does that leave me, hehe. No really, rest assured. Should a war in Iraq break out, I'm sure you can have a place here. It doesn't matter where you choose to seek sanctuary, here or in another country, just make sure you and your family are safe.

Hamsi, you'll be back soon enough.
Just remember...
Murphy's Rules for Combat
01. Military intelligence is a contradiction of terms.
02. A sucking chest wound is Nature's way of telling you to slow down.
03. When you have secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy.
04. The problem with taking the easy way out, is that the enemy has already mined it.
05. The buddy system is essential to your survival. It gives the enemy somebody else to shoot at.
06. Never draw fire, it irritates everyone around you.
07. No combat ready unit ever passed an inspection.
08. No inspection ready unit ever passed combat
09. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.
10. Fortify your front and you'll get your rear shot up.
11. If you can't remember, the claymore is pointed towards you.
12. All five second grenade fuses are three seconds, or all five second fuses will burn out in three.
13. If it flies, it dies.
14. Cavalry doesn't always come to the rescue.
15. Peace is our profession, mass murder's just a hobby.
16. Killing for peace is like whoring for virginity.
17. There's always a way.
18. It's not the one with your name on it, it's the round addressed "to whom it may concern" ya gotta think about.
19. If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.
20. If two things are required to make something work, they will never be shipped together.
21. Anything you do can get you shot, including nothing.
22. Whenever you lose contact with the enemy, look behind you.
23. The most dangerous thing in the combat zone is an officer with a map.
24. The quartermaster has only two sizes, too large and too small.
25. If you really need an officer in a hurry, take a nap.
26. There is nothing more satisfying than having someone take a shot at you, and miss.
27. If your sergeant can see you, so can the enemy.
28. You'll only remember your hand grenades when the sound is too close to use them.

niddie war will be inside boundaries of iraq so it is not that critical..
Imigration is a tough decission.
On the other hand I like living in Turkey.. People more familiar and friendly.
I like the bars of Istanbul, I like hookah, I like my living here like mad.. This place is not as it seems from Europe.. I guess this is the main problem between Western European countires and Turkey..
Anyways ---- the Politics! (I am an International Relations student lol)

Hope You Are Doing Well
Hamsi,
Just listen to The Gootch's words of advice and you'll be fine. My advice to you if anything happens in your area, "When in doubt, empty the magazine." Keep an eye on those Kurds!
I'll catch you online when this is over so we can share our experiences. Keep your head down, your chin up, and be constantly vigilant.
Peace out!
