Well yes 
I'm pretty sure that they never bothered making a demo for Heroes of Might and Magic IV...but for HoMM3, I think you can find the demo here

In my opinion the website is about enhancing the playing of the full version of the game. Playing single player is nothing like playing online with a human opponent.
You will need to buy it or borrow a copy from a friend or something to play. Once you load it up go to www.3DO.com and make sure to update the game to the latest version. Then go to www.gamespyarcade.com and play online with the people in the main lobby there.
