I have had it !
OK, people. You have some serious explaining to do.
Go for lv7 week 1 ? In all the towns? What are you talking about?
Or are all of you just big sissys and play allways on easy or normal. Where is the fun of colecting resources ,fighting for mines and tradeing to build some of the structures you need ?
What? Whats that? Aha , TOH maps are so rich that you can build everything week 1. Hey , people, I have only one thing to say about this - BORING!!!
Give me a random imposible map any day! And then show me how to make lv7 1st week with castle.( maybe , just maybe behemonts and hydras)

...hear this 48 AT 35 DF, 28 SP 31 KW (all this with artifacts) in week 2 month 2..........You see..that what people like, and yes y built behmots first week with castle. all this in expert. And i'm a noob.........imagine a good player!!

month 2 ??? LOL ... see, that's your problem: you have no clue what you are talking about. In the "real word" (read: mulitplayer), there is no month 2 on sd3.
If you don't have a level 20+ hero week 3 (month ONE ), you will lose the game. Simple as that.

The map is rich, but not as much as having 7 level 7 upraded in week 3. And there is no other way. to break up 2 utopias and the two garrison. At least not loosing enough armie...to fall against the enemy hero.
ONe more question..in what difficulty do you play the showdown?

One advice from me then:
"Play somebody that really KNOWS the map and save everyday". Then check the saves day to day in Hotseat mode and try to replay them.
That is much easier then us here trying to explain to u how to end that map week 3.

you don't need upgr. L7 to kill garrisons. 1 or 2 stacks of critters and some fodder are enough. And don't forget your ballista and 1st aid tent.

there are enough other ways. besides you don't NEED to take 2 utopias. If you can't kill lots of black dragons in front of utopia, don't attack them... go for the enemy instead; maybe you are lucky and he waits for month 2

Ok. Stop with that TOH maps talk.
Show me how to take DU before week 3 on random imposible.
I think that none of you ever had taken or tryed to take DU on rand. imp. even on week 4. In most cases I launch an attack week1 month2. And in some lucky cases I stormed on DU in month1, week4 , maybe once or twice week3.

@Pollo: your hero should be about level 15+ before you attack the first dragon garrison (using sd3 as an example, but holds for most other closed maps too). Only take the necessary fights week 2 (pandora's box, greens and/or reds), sacrifice artifacts etc. He will gain his final levels from utopia/library/carto guards. Not attacking all of them week 3 of course, usually your opponent does not like that
@krule: I have no clue when you can take a tope on impossible. I guess if the map is somewhat rich and/or you're lucky with cons/dwellings and spells (ressurection f.e.), I don't see a reason why you shouldn't take a small/medium tope week 3 or 4. On a poor map, things will delay for 1 or 2 weeks maybe, but you rarely do something else than moving your starting hero week 1 anyways I guess.
What I personally don't like about 160% / 200% settings is that it's hard to compensate starting heroes. If you don't have the money to buy more then 3/4 heroes in the first 2 weeks and all of them SUCK, you will have a hard time to counter your opponent running around with Shakti since day 1, lol. On 130% you can hire 4 heroes and do some chaining at least, so that you might be able to afford 1 or 2 more heroes and find a good one hopefully. But that's just me

I partly agree with the BORING part. When you play a ToH map on %100, you get thousand heroes so that you suck the map dry in 2-3 weeks. Getting 3 lvl7s and sweeping other creatures dead with those lvl7s in week1-2, and taking hordes of lvl7s down, and storming topes may be boring for some. But I disagree with bashing those maps and those who like ToH maps. ToH maps are like "test-skill" maps. If you are truely good you should be able to finish the map before your opponent does. Of course there are flaws in ToH maps. But, can you please tell me a homm3 map which is perfectly balanced? As I said, such a game style may be boring for some (including me) but it does not change the fact. It is true that you cannot get lvl7 on randoms@%160+ whereas you can build lvl7 in week1 even on %200 on ToH maps. On ToH maps skill=speed.
I personally like playing randoms on %160 diff. rather than set/ToH maps @%100. However, I love to play a "tope race" from time to time.
Each on his own. In sum, we are not all "big sissies who always plays on easy or normal"

I agree with Pollo about skill=speed in every stratategic game, specialy in Heroes.
I must say again my opinion that with TOH maps and playing on easy or normal level you just cant get the overall fellig of satisfaction after the game knowing that you have skiped an important part of it.Why are there mines in H3? Why are resources scatered all over the map? Why isnt there just a few towns, few topias and thats it.? Is H3 just pure fight between two heroes ?
Offcorse not!!! It is more tactic then fight.
Thats why anybody can learn how to be good in TOH maps, you just remember what you must do, where the bonuses are( DU, relics) and then you go fight your enemy and hope that he isnt stronger , and only few knows how to play when you have to go from nothing to victory, when the choice beetween purchacing a second hero or building town hall can decide the outcome of entire game. Those of you who have been in that situation knows what I am talking about.

Surely, everyone can learn to be good. The problem is, nobody wants to learn
I agree with madmartigan, playing ToH maps is a good test of your skills. You are forced to be efficient and to prioritize. It's my strong believe that if some of the random-only players would learn to play fixed maps, they would improve a LOT on random maps too.
Not talking about the masters like Kuma, vinz, midnight, etc. of course - they will kick your (and my) butt everytime

The problem with fixed maps 1vs1 is the fact that the start is always the same.....

To Haile
You said that on fixed maps you have to prioritize. What?
On ToH maps your prioriti is to break DU as soon as posible. You dont have any other prioriti. You dont have to wory about mines , resources , buildings and troops. You allready have that . On randoms your prioriti changes in split second , your worrys are countless and you can never be shure that you will be victories. YOU JUST NEVER KNOW!!
That is the beauty of Heroes of might and magic 3.
