Unicorns aura of resistance
I was curious how exactly resistance works for the unicorns, I always here from many players how they have magic resistance but i never read it anywhere on profiles, strategy guides etc.
Can someone explain how it works because I only heard they have it, not how many % or if you need dwarves on your team to make it count etc?

I'm not sure, but I think that the stack only gains the magic resistance if it is within a certain range of the unicorn stack.
I don't think there is any benefit for the unicorn itself, although they can of course stand within the radius of other unicorns.

"Both unicorn units project a magic resistant aura which gives adjacent units a 20% chance to ignore the effects of hostile spells."
That was from the Homm3 manual.

As far as I know it, a unit standing right next to a uni has 20% chance (on top of other resisting skills) to resist a bad spell.

...unis dont give resistance for themselves. So if u gonna make a magic attack like the chain do the cast straight on the unis.
And if u expect a chain on your rampart troups make sure (if a slot is available) that u make 2 slots of unis so that they protect each other. Then the best is to fill the other open slots with dwarfes, so that they resist and break the chain ...of course only if u await a magic attack.

Interesting question:
What if you cast fireball and kill the unicorn stack with it. Is the magic resistance still in the calculation for the other troops when determining the damage.
What about chain lightning, if the unicorns are the first to be killed.

why not edit a map and run some tests??
keep a pad of paper and pen handy and keep track of the results you should be able to formulate an idea of the resistance effect if the unicorn stack has been killed.
You probably wanna try it with differnt spells and different adjacent creatures, etc. and try each alignment several times.
Food for thought.

If the Uni. is killed the units still get the Magic res. , but only for that spell. The spell is a instant, thus they are all hit at the same time, but if another spell is cast next round the Bonus is gone...

@Wub...this has also some interesting questions to test.... in my opinion ONLY the creatures really NEXT (no hex between) can benefit from the unicorn aura, and if so it seems not to have any further resistance if u attach several war unicorns to a creature.
Like u expect heavy implosion and therefore u do 6 single war unicorns around the goldies.... it seems the chance to resist is still 20% ...and not like 6 times having the chance of 20% resistance ...which would mean at least 50% of a chance to resist in Total.
Does anyone have better insight in this?
