Lets take dungeon as example, and lets assume you have about the same amount of troops as the stronghold dude, a few less blacks than ancients and a bunch more scorps than clops.
You have a overlord with some might stats, your tactic vs a stronghold always has to be: get mass haste and attack before Hack does, if you try to wait you will most certainly be crushed.
Use your drags breath if possible, he prolly doesnt expect you to attack right away so theres a chance you can use it.
Than in the best caste, throw your scorps on what the drags went and maybe be lucky and paralyze it.
Than you throw the rest in of course, and hope.

Just an example, strongholds weakness is the speed - but theres only 2 town where you can play defend: Tower, if you have Titans of course, and Rampart simply because they dont have the fast tanks to attack right away.
You need to expect a mass haste, so you need to crush stronghold before it crushes you and counter with a mass haste yourself.

Now forget this if you have implo or snow or if red orb is into play, thats fighting without much tactic than.
Resurrect vs large stronghold armies? Forget it, those mass spells prolly will destroy you faster than you can res.

I'd use mass slow instead, as I'd have a better speed advantage.

Who ever said I'd slow him right away? Ofcourse I'd wait till he'd haste himself! I'm not that much of a n00b.

Humm, if you wait for Crag Hack to mass haste his troops ... by the time you are able to cast mass slow, the battle is pretty much over.

andis tactic is a good one..
personally i like the blind behemoth more. without behemes stronghold is a piece of cake and u can also wait with both scorps and dragons using this tactic and let them do their stuff at end of round.. opp will prolly dispell leaving him to be eaten up the first round. if he haste no bigge without behems... if he slowes u can still use andis tactic round 2(haste yrself since u go first with blacks ..)

blind is strongholds nightmare.

I have just one question: when i usually play behems my hero is Hack or Dessa (sometimes both ), and my strategy is pretty simple but in my opinion unstopable: instead goblins I take angels from conservatories than i upgrade them.  How would u stop me? Is it possible without great magic skills ( Dessa is a great spell-caster!)? My opinion  is simple-stronghold has great troops (also cheap) but the problem is their speed. With angels( archangels) it's just a matter of time.
