If all towns are equal, then why is Necro often banned on randoms? .

Skeleton harvesting is running around doing as many fights as possible to gather as many skells as possible, while losing none or nearly nothing. People often use VLords for this.

Hmm, letīs see ... one Vampire Lord can kill thousands of dwarves. Believe me, that is very time consuming .

Itīs both the number of combats (as Woock pointed out), and the units you mainly use doing that - Skeletons and Vampire Lords are both specialists at burning time that could otherwise have been spent for social life.

If it is a map with a lot of low level creatures that are living (i.e. can be affected by Vampire Lords) then the necromancer can really kick butt.

However, if there's lots of high level guards around, then Necromancer has more problems.

That's probably why Necromancer is best overall. However, it depends on the map. Necromancer units are the most expensive to buy, and, specials aside, are not as powerful as other towns. If you can't skeleton harvest, then its hard work being a Necromancer. Yet if you can then it is mighty easy.

I've never seen a random without enough skeleton food to crush a stronghold on a small map while playing a human opponent.

Dungeon is my favorite if i feel like a challange, otherwise I use Necropolis. Vampire Lords are amazing.

Uh actually if im not mistaken necropolis is one of the cheaper as far as troops go. Castle is the most expensive. By a lot. And about vamp lords only being good for low levels observe this:

For 5000 Gold you get 10 VLs and 1 Archangel. If 1 Archangel fights 10 VLs, the Archangel wins (1. round: AA does 100 damage; 8VLs retaliate for 20 to 32 damage and then attack for the same most probably (87.5%) not resurrecting one. 2. round: again 100 damage, so the VLs are down to 6, doing 15-24 damage and then the same again maybe resurrecting one. From then on it goes straight downward). Now let's fight 10 Archangels against 100 VLs. The Archangels will kill 25 VLs with their first strike, but the remaining 75 VLs will do 187-300 damage resurrecting 4-7 VLs and then 198-328 damage resurrecting another 5-8 VLs and killing at least one and possibly two AAs. The second round of fight will see 8-9 AAs against 84-90 VLs, and it's clear the VLs will win (you can do the math yourself).

I saw that on the 3d0 site, so im assuming everyone has already seen that. However i think that makes it pretty clear.

What's wrong, Hexa? Oh, one more thing - in WOG, Stronghold is best for randoms, no matter the size (Gurnisson and commander's special ability = killing some strong stuff early on). I remember winning a game on Jebus Cross, where I just bought 4 cyclops from an adventure map dwelling on the first day and crushed the computer with just that .
