3DO Bankrupt
Other people probably should give out this news, but I wanted everyone to know as fast as possible. This message was posted on Celestial Heavens by Angelspit:
Quote: According to stories on IGN and Yahoo, "3DO Co. filed voluntary petitions under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code, saying it plans to sell either the entire company or certain assets." Rick Reynolds, director of marketing at the video game publisher commented the news: "There have been companies looking at potentially buying our games, either in a big package, or in parts, or as individual games. We have been on the phone all day long, but I don't know of anything more than that happening today."
The company has three major titles planned in 2003, Jacked, Street Racing Syndicate and Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Heroes of Might and Magic V is currently in development at New World Computing and was meant to be officially announced during the Summer. However, 3DO revealed earlier this month that it would cut half of its workforce. More details should be available soon.
Note that 3DO is not the creator of the Heroes series. That is NWC, which is property of 3DO, but acts independantly. There are fair chances that they will be bought by another company to continue the series. But as for now, we know nothing.

hmm... not sure whether I am happy or sad of this - if 3do indeed goes under, then maybe some other company that will be more dedicated to the HoMM series will buy NWC...

SO it can go two ways, any future homm is down the tubes, and NWC fizzles out forever, or some company will buy them.
If we had a competent company like EA get hold of homm5, I would see great things.
But this comes as no surprise.
So.... More homm4 action, with a much longer homm4 season...

Well, in the end management hopefully will realize all their errors have taken them to this situation. You can get lucky and make a big splash and big bucks in the short term, but quality is where staying power comes in for the long run.
Have to see how the future goes.
*edit-oops... their/there/they're

i was just speculating yesterday in Gamespy.. i bet it wouldnt cost that much to buy NWC Think about it.. they're just a tiny little office out in the middle of nowhere in CA. The only game theyre working on (i think) is H5. I bet the rights to H5 cost more than the company itself
Doomsquest had a good idea ... Ves should buy NWC
and i dont know why you guys think that H5 is gonna be delayed a lot longer now? If NWC is indeed bought it will likely be bought fairly quickly, so it probably wont delay it hardly at all. Of course I could be wrong.. but I really dont think so.

"I'm sure, for the right price, you could pick up the entire franchise. But, you would need at least $20 mil to get things going. If I were to guess the total cost of production - it would be around $4 mil and then you need
almost that amount to advertise and market...then there's the distribution and support...the costs go on and on. Trip actually said for a publisher to succeed in today's market, they need to earn $100 mil a year in revenue....well, 3DO was only earning $20 mil."

The HoMM is a valuable brand and still has great potential. It's not going down the gutter anytime soon. I hope that the series will last, so as by the time I die I would have tought my children and grandchildren to play HoMM (From I all the way to XXV hopefully)

This could be the End
I have mixed feelings about this news. I'm glad 3DO is no more. They did nothing good in the last few years and what they did to Heroes 4 is a disgrace to the serie.
But I have doubt about the survival of Heroes. Even if Heroes have a strong fanbase there is a lot of games more popular then Heroes. I'm very worried about his future. I hope some company sowhere see the potential of the serie. But most of all Heroes of Might and Magic need to be saved because it's a great game.

Quote: HI.
Look at what the guys responsible for Age Of Wonders 1+2, and look set to do with Age Of wonders:Shadow Magic (http://aow2.godgames.com/shadowmagic). You'd be best of praying you get taken over by Gathering of Developers and that you are lucky enough to get Trumph working on your game. I was a wee bairn when HoMM3 came out and the reviews of HoMM 4 were so snowe that I spent the money I had set aside just for this game, because everyone told me how brilliant the HoMM series, on something pointless, like a teddy bear for my woman (which turned out to be a good thing). I'm not here just to plug but you don'tneed me to go on about how crap HoMM4 is. You keep saying it for yourselves. Until your dream for HoMM5 comes true (something I hope happens so I can play it-Iwon't play HoMM3 because I kno I'll find the graphics etc horribly dated, I already do with AoW1)you'd be best of getting acquanted with the game part inspired by the HoMM and Warlord series which looks like it has wiped the floor with them. Goodbye.
P.S. V.Nice pics! I wish the Aow fansites were like this!
I think he said Heroes sucks...lets get him!!!!! 8)
