Commanders as creatures
I have edited Commanders and used them as all other creatures. However, they seem to have a number of skills ( not listed, of course ) such as Fire Shield, Paralyze, etc.
Could this be the cause of several crashes when the "Commanders" were about to retaliate in melee combat?

I suppose it's possible but I wouldn't think likely. I've used Commanders that way too in one map (the Paladin anyway) and tested the battle a few times, so far with no problems.

I say kill the *&^%$#@!#@$$%^^& commander with an axe! No commanders please.. they die fast and if not too good if not too crappy actually they influence homm.No good,I say.Less strategy involved when u have comm around.No thank you.Kill the commander!!

If you don't like the commander, go into the WoG options and turn them off. There are some of us who want/need the commanders. And it seems to me, with the commander, more strategy, not less, is used. It adds another element to battle that seemed missing before. And as far as dying fast, that's only in the beginning stages of a map. As time progresses, they become very powerful and hard to kill off.
In the beginning stages of a map, they are not very suited for battle and should be used as a backup for the other units.(Casting spell or spells, depending on what script(s) you use). And again, if you are'nt happy with commanders, all I can say is don't use them, because they are here to stay.

Well yes usually because the commander is only 1 person while the other stacks are much more. I think that the AI goes for the most damaging and stronger stacks 1st so even though the commander can have a deadly double strike and other things it still sees it as less of a threat.

Right.Because the AI doesn't want to hurt that.. @$%#^$^#%$#@ commander.
Because you look upon it as a heroic powerful thing.But then...and then...so then...er hmm...

The AI always tries to deal the most damage possible. And therefore usually the commander is the least wanted target, because there's only one of them/they will suffer a lot less damage. But if the AI can't reach any other troops, it'll attack the comm.

At lvl 20 hero My commander will thump your armies A##. You play with no commander and I take a commander and see who wins. H3 expert thinks he knows WoG LMAO.

Commander is very good idea. it's special abilities can be deadly useful (e.g. ogre leader and ballista)

Commanders
Personally, I miss commanders when I'm playing a straight up H3 game. It's kind of nice having them hanging around. Nothing like a bit of a death stare to take out 3 or 4 level 8's. :-)
The only thing that bothers me is that I can't res the poor goomer if he's axed in battle, thus I have to go to town and, depending on what extra skills I've given him, either pray I have enough money and/or there's a level 3 mage guild in the area.

Yes, but think of the advantages too! Not being classed as "alive" also means that your Commander can't be killed instantly by a Death Stare from a Mighty Gorgon, Nightmare or another Commander. And furthermore, Vampire Lords can't regenerate from damage done to your Commander.
And although I haven't tested this, I think Commanders may also be immune to Ghost Dragon's Aging, Zombie's Disease and the one-hex "splash" damage from a Power Lich's Death Cloud attack (although they're obviously still affected by a direct hit).
There's a possibility that the WoG team may reconsider and make Commander "alive" at some point in the future, so they would be affected by all of the above but could also be Resurrected, but if we do, I think it wouldn't be before 3.59 anyway. Or we might decide it's better the way it is now.

If you don't like the commanders simply turn them off since 90% + like them I guess you are the 1 of a very few that don't. Please use this board to talk about and give ideas to the WoG team not bash them for what they have created. If you think you can do beter than go ahead and try it.

Has anyone seen Fifth Element, when Korbin Dallas shot the leader and he said himself that when you kill the leader his troops become useless, thats what you should do with wandering commanders.

Back on topic
I've experimented with commanders as creatures, this time with 3.58. I had problems in 3.57 (see the first post).
Anyway, they are bug-free, although I wasn't able to see their experience chart in hero's screen. The option worked fine in combat screen, though.
I guess I just got 9 new creatures!

I think there was a problem with 3.58 (fixed in 3.58f) with Paladin "creatures" where it wouldn't always load their shooting graphics in combat (thus resulting in a crash).
But yes, they make nifty custom creatures to play with.
