Yeah...
I really like Ents to be giant evil flesh eating trees.. not stupid walking trees.. Treants are called that way....
I like Dark elves with evil magic.. But also Good Elves.. But there were elves EVEN BEFORE TOLKIEN DID IT!
I really like druids to transform into ANIMALS.. Tolkien made them normal STUPID humans..
Orcs suck....
Humans Suck
Halflings Suck...
Only cool creature tolkien has made is the Giant Spider called widow..

you guys get very upset when people scoff your creature ideas and thoughts (I am reading now your comments to arachnid on banshee) why do you have to call tolkiens creatures stupid?? I think a little mutual respect and a read of the HC coc is needed by all of you.

Hah! Tolkein was the first to have Druids change into Animals. I can remember his name, but one of the druids in the Hobbit turned into a bear! He then went of and killed Orcs! Boo.......yah!
If you never read Tolkein, how can you hate his stuff? You hate his version of pixies before you even read about them! (by the way, no he did not include pixies in his books)
*Sigh* Tell you what. You need to start on books slowly. Start with the Dark Elf Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. It's an easy read and the main charactor is a dark elf who fights with two wicked scimitars and a pet phantom black panther.
It's also a GREAT story, with very well described battles. You will like it, even if you hate Tolkein.

Mythology vs Fantasy
I wonder where many of you think Tolkein got his creatures? he didn't just make up everything from his own mind. So many things you read in books or fantasy genre is based on myths, fairytales etc, warped a bit many times by this age, but let's start with Dendroids- Ents in Tolkien, but originally Dryads were guardians of the forest, two aspects- tree and female form which casted magic, while in tree form could wave branches around and behave like an Ent generally though Tolkiend added alot. It's not bad to make adaptions really, but you have to be careful what you start adding, alot of fantasy is based on Midgard which is Norse mythology. Then there is added, Irish, Chinese, Persian, Greek, Egyptian, Sumerian, Russian, German, and Japanese. Look at almost all creatures in fantasy and they are based in myth. Some things just don't make sense in fantasy universe however; that is why huge debate about Forge. I didn't mind idea of Forge, but it is more scifi fantasy than straight fantasy.
Where do winged elves come from though? I mean, elf is small creature which is like keebler elf in germany&russian, but ireland and britain it is an elve, and tall thin ancients which were Sidhe which Banshee means female sidhe. So you can trace the progression very well until recently when so many fantasy books are out and just creating whatever creatures they want. Sure you can add anything you want, but pretty soon there is monsters without anyone knowing what the hell they do and no starting point in fantasy world to know attributes and such. Another example from elves are kender in dragon lance, or you can relate them to hobbits from Tolkein also- Hobbits actually more based on Trolls- there are several books out with Tolkeins notes in them about how he created MiddleEarth... try reading those before you judge- ohwait, you hate reading? How the hell do you learn anything then? Probably you don't right? Just talk and play video/computer games not knowing anything except what you misunderstand.

Can't be anything to do with fantasy or anything you've talked about here since you seem to celebrate your ignorance on those things, maybe you know something about other stuff, but I couldn't say what I'd guess that is.
So you are going to make up everything all by yourself? So who would read it? it'd be in your own language, on your own illmade parchament, with your own alphabet... etc. Nothing wrong with imagination, in fact it's great, but no reason not to give credit where it's due at the same time. Otherwise it's idiotic to assume you are the creator of everything. Maybe you could be, given time and skills you obviously lack- ye that is true of anyone.

I'm only hating tolkien not fantasy.. Unicorns???? somebody??? There fantasy too.. I can make up 15 stories only about this horned horse.. tolkien didn't even mention them.. I know all mythology NOT GODS but creatures many things of gods.. but everything about the creatures from echidna to ladon from the sirens to the giant whirlpool Charybdis... And i'm only 15... Your in 20 and i know for sure you don't know anything about it... I'm only not interested in Human kinds of creatures like dwarves elves and other tolkien creatures... I think they look boring.. They don't have cool stories and they suck...

I think HoMM should have it's own creatures. These creatures would be based into myths, tolkien and other fantasy themes but they would be changed in the terms of gameplay.

Um, Incubus. Two things:
1) Ichon is very, very right.
2) I wouldn't be bragging about knowing so much about mythology to your friends at your age. 3 years ago I was more interested in landing my girlfriend, than who created who and why I never read Tolkein, but for some reason still sucks.

last post about tolkien creatures by you...
I don't care do you like them or not. I even didn't say do I like them more than creatures from mythology.
All I said was that if you call every creature you don't like a tolkien creature and say that only mythology creatures are cool! it doesn't take us anywhere.
How did you play the heroes game in the first place if you hate all "tolkien" creatures in it? Or do you play the game at all?
No need to answer. I think I know the answer.
When I'm talking about Tolkien and his influence to fantasy and this game many of us love, don't shoot me, because I'm just messanger.
I personally will try to avoid all subjects concerning you and your creatures now on. Not because those creatures aren't cool! and I like more tolkien creatures, but that I can't say anything bad about your creatures before you burst into fire.
It seems you cannot take any criticism toward you.

Some months ago.. i had a fight with only Hsanders... about tolkien nobody who cared much ... BUT TODAY i saw the most awful sence i ever had heard! *Without tolkien no fantasy!* I can't stand that.... And already the fact that i hate tolkien creatures(everybody keeps on telling me there are MANY! NOT TRUE there aren't that much tolkien creatures...)I don't care if you hate my creatures... Only lordpaul starts to compair the creatures with stupid hobbits.. That i can't stand... And with crusadars. that makes me angry .... I don't know why but i can't stand that...Never make fun of a banshee and say even an hobbit can defeat them.. That makes me burst.. But good enough of tolkien.. I don't care if you 3 are against me... There are enough people left...Your not even close to my age.. so bye bye... Last words of the already to much words we had about that foolish grandpa......
And duh i play heroes.. But they got good mixes of all kinds of creatures.. there are orcs and Elves they are stupid... but there are also NON tolkien creatures like unicorn and cyclops in the stronghold and preverse... Hobbits/Halflings are just stupid.. I don't pay much attention on them... They are weak and only Neutrall creatures no big deal at all...

It is a fairy or spirit who follows a family around and wails/cries before a death as an ill omen.
Special power crying loudly?
Only use just before you loose a battle?

Or blizzard(warcraft3) X-men MANY other games... or your story about the banshee.. I think i follow the cool banshee stories of the first things.. And they turned Hobbits in a Battlemachine did't they? So what about some fantasy from our owns.. I don't know any other creature that has wail spells.... Warcraft3 rules!

I know that banshees have other incarnations but I thought you wanted to get back to myth origins.
I think a great new creature would be a Valkyrie, hot looking warrior babes coming from the gods to help the hero.

Valkyrie are beautifull maiden that ride a winged white dear... they hold an golden spear with golden aura around it..

Norse myth maybe amazons also, but were basically sex slaves to warrios who fought well and made it to dine at Odin's table in Valhalla and wait for Ragnorak. They could fight also thoug, being something of fates in poer, knowing when warriors time to die and appearing on the battlefield then etc... would be cool maybe if when some stack of a unit died just like Phoenix, 30% chance of summoning vengeful valkyries to take their souls to the afterlife and attacking theiur destroyer one round or duration of battle or something. Awesome special it could be, where did you get idae they rode deer?
