Poll Question: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoneix
Is Harry the Hairy,Potter the Potful, worth the wait?
How many of you actually waited for that stupid book to come out?
Okay,it was a clever book,-there's no such thing as stupid or clever books. But it had it's fair share of criticism about it's detail into dark forces and magic and etc..
I personally don like Harry Potter books.
So,do you think it is worth the crazy wait for Harry Potter books?I've seen in the news over the US,the UK and other parts of the world the legions of people lining up for 1 book. You heard me right,1 book!
Is Harry Potter the book worth thw wait?
For me,it's a definite no.I wouldn't queque for hours and pay the money I can buy happy meals with-say,about 8 happy meals?
NO WAY.That's my side of the argument. There are other better books out there.

gotta say........
HP isn't all that bad, actually. My 11 yr old daughter is a huge fan, and owns all of the books. I picked up the first book out of boredom (and to see what kind of stuff my kid was reading) the day after Christmas and 3 days later had read all 4 of them, lol. I'll read the 5th in my spare time when she's finished with it.
Rowling's books move along fairly well and aren't at all hard to remain interested in. They're nothing like my typical Stephen King/Anne Rice/Tolkien, etc fare, but enjoyable to me nonetheless.

My brother bought Harry Potter 5 Yesterday (the Order of the Phoenix), and he could never put the book down since. If he did put the book down, I would pick it up. I have already read 4 chapters.
Harry Potter is fine.

They come in large no.s and with their rebirth ability-Yipeee!
Nothing beats that!
That's what Hairy's trying to say!

I pre-ordered it like a month ago, and they want us to wait till the 14th of July!!!
If we don't get this straight, we'll probably cancel that and go to a normal bookstore.

I dont know if its worth my time waiting in line, but i havent read the other ones, ive seen the first movie, but from what my friends tell me its actually not all that bad, my buddies girlfriend is obsessed with it, so it cant be all bad. I read some Diadem books and they were great kept me interested and if a book can keep me interested its worth its weight in gold. I hear HP can do that to most kids so i would say its deffinatly worth the wait.
keeping a kid reading a book instead of watching tv? hell i would pay almost anything that could do that.
and if your looking for another good book that kept me interested is "Pillars of the Earth" (i dont remember who from but its about 1000 pages.)

I don't know how much it costs here (Probably $50 canadian), but the HP books aren't so bad. I would rather read Terry Pratchett, though.

It's worth it because Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix furthers the arc of the series, and I suspect the sixth book won't make any sense without this one. It's not worth it because it's a miserable read, thanks to Rowling's all-too-skillful capture of the experience of a 15-year-old. The sullen moodiness, the sense of being alone and misunderstood, the tug-of-war between being a kid and an adult -- there's a whole lot of nostalgia I did not need. I'm glad I read it. I'm glad it's over.
Oh, and for the record, I was one of the people standing in line in front of the bookstore at 11:45 pm on June 20, and that was worth it insofar as my family now owns first editions of all five books. If we keep our record unbroken, the set will be worth something unto itself by the time grandkids are reading it years down the road.

Harry Potter is a cute lil series, although how JK Rowling escaped paying masses of concept royalties to Jill Murphy is beyond me!
I've read them all, but i don't think they're all that special compared to say, Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" or Garth Nix "Sabriel" series, but I think it's great that a single mum can go from having nothing to writing such an incredibly popular series. Goes to show... you can do anything you put your mind to if you try. Rowling's own story is more compelling than anything she's ever written

When compared to great fantasy book series like Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms, it is a real mystery as to why Harry Potter is so popular. The idea behind it has been repeated countless times, so it isn't like the book is revolutionary or anything.

Amen, brother. I love most of the popular fantasy series (Weis and Hickman amaze me with every new novel) but do not see what is great about Harry Potter except that it is intended for kids. As for the ideas in it, they have been repeated soooo many times it's not even funny. That magic school idea has been around for years, and the wizard living with normal non-wizard parents is also quite common (there was a movie about a girl in the exact same situation).

Yes Weis and Hickman are my favourites as well. Their writing ability far surpasses Rowling's.

What I think many of you are failing to realize is that the books are made for kids 11-15 years old. Yes, there are many better books out there and yes, they are childish and drone on, but they entertain the age group they were ment for. I myself prefer Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms, but many younger kids could not read books such as these.
