Quote: And I love cherries, though it is a berry, not a fruit.
Actually cherries are related to peaches and plums, not berries. All have one stony seed in the center. So they are fruits. Besides, berries are fruits too.

Yesterday I got the freakiest fruit that I've ever seen in my life.
They're called Durians
Be carefull, those spines hurt!
are you freaked out yet?
They have a reputation for reaking too. Here's some short
descriptions that various people have used to describe this fruit:
from wikipedia:
"The English novelist Anthony Burgess famously said that dining on durian is like eating vanilla custard in a latrine."
"... its odor is best described as pig-****, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away. Despite its great local popularity, the raw fruit is forbidden from some establishments such as hotels, subways and airports, including public transportation in Southeast Asia.
Ours wasn't so bad though.

I love tropical fruits. Australia must be like America only with tropical fruits right?
describing the Durian:
It was creamy, like ice cream.
no...
like the freeze dried icecream that NASA made for the astronauts. Only reconstituted. And it had little hints of pine-apple and tapioca.
not acidy at all...

@fog. My friend brought me a box of durian flavored candies from Thailand. It got the most disgusting smell, but didn't taste that bad ;-)

durians are pretty sick.
there's this kid I know who eats a thing of dragon fruit every morning. he's a weirdo. not because of that. he just is.
I love mangoes and cherries the best. Only fresh ones though, although dried mango is good. All dried fruit is good
Nectarines and plums are great if they are firm, I hate it when they are soft or too ripe for some reason. Peaches are the same, but the fur pisses me off when I eat it lol i'm just like that.
Grapes are cool too, because I feel like a roman emperor when I eat them while being lazy
Lychees are also good, in moderation
Oh and Passionfruit. LOVE passionfruit. Forget moderation!
But too much passionfruit and fruits like pineapple and it stings my mouth.
Watermelon is good if its fresh as well. Ignore that soggy **** you find at buffets.
My favourite overall would have to be mangoes but they are so expensive I rarely have them. Had one today though

Hmm... I don't think "HURMA" sounds the same in English. I've recently bought a few, but I don't remember how they are called
Anyways, for me it is CHERRIES!!! We have a cherry tree, so this summer I ate about 2kg of cherries EVERY DAY for about a month. After that was over I... went over to the store and bought some more cherries

If "hurma" is what I think it is, it's called "date" in English. It comes from a date palm and is the most favorite fruit in Middle East.

hey there antipaladin. That fruit is called "Persimmon" in English (Korolyok in Russian) though I doubt many people in Europe or America know what it means. It's mainly grown in middle east, Russian, Japan and China. There are two kinds of persimmons - astringent and non astringent. Astringent persimmons are impossible to eat until they are either very ripe or dried. Non astingent persimmons are fine to be consummed.
I got confused by the word "Hurma" cause that's how me call both the date fruit and the dried persimmons.
As for Hummus (we call it Hamos in Armenia, my favorite!), is a dip made of chickpea paste and sesame seeds and is usually dressed with olive oil or lemon juice. There is also "Foul", a dip made of beans and another dip from eggplants called ghanouj or something like that.
For almost a year i used to order my lunch from a Lebanese restaurant. Ah, all those tasty falafels, nuries, fajitas, halvas and taboules... YUM!!!

Actually, it IS called "Hurma" in Russian.Quote: nuries
nuries? What is the singular form of it? Nuria? I know that it is a female Spanish/Arab name, but I didn't know that it is food too! So, what kind of food is it?
