Poll Question: World Peace Possible?
This is an interesting question that almost everyone has an opinion on. Personally I think it's not possible. Although we may have stretches of peace, eventually there's going to come some genocidal maniac or power-hungry leader that will start it over again. Pity, really. But what is your opinion?

Yes, the religions are a problem too. Without them, even if all people are not educated, I think we're closer to world peace.

Youre absolutely right. I even wrote a speech about that in school.

In fact, in countries with a higher standard of living the birth rate-death rate ratio is much much lower than those where AIDS, famine, disease and wars have the lead.
So, beware your vocabulary (ignorant, evil) and how you use it.

the religions and traditions in most 3rd world countries support having like 10 or so children,do you suppose that will change when people stop dying?

There was a theory, I don't remember who created it, but is stated that war is necessary and appears naturally, simply because, as the human population increases, the natural resources are depleted, so war appears in order to reduce the number of individuals and restore balance.

I think it possible, but only God can make it happen. And yes, I believe that one day God will heal the world. I'm religios, but still I agree that most of todays problems are caused by religios fanatics. The world will heal, and God himself will heal it.

Yes it is possible, and yes I know how to do it.
I don't expect you to agree, but I will tell you anyway.
1. We can chose to fight for our own interests, or cooperate for everyones.
2. When you don't feel sure about what the other guys will do (fight or cooperate) its smarter to fight, because then you wont be betrayed.
3. When everyone cooperates, we get higher total resources than when people fight. Fighting destroys the resources.
4. If we reduce the uncertainty about how people will chose, (ideals, social etikette, laws) then it becoemes less uncertain, and more people will and can chose to cooperate instead of fight.
5. So the road to world peace is to reduce the uncertainty in human relations, so that we dont have to be afraid of eachother.
Now, to actually make it happen, thats a different question. And no, Im not going to listen to you if you havent studied the first economic revolution when man went from hunter to farmer.

I Agree With FrostWolf
When I think of such things, my mind wanders with thoughts much like FrostWolf's.
1. Inevitable war
2. Resource consumption
3. Human factor
Such things are clues as to what sort of future we can expect as mankind progresses to the next stage of our evolution. This is not to say, however, that God does not exist. I am one of those persons who believes peace must be found within yourself before seeking it elsewhere. Clarity of mind and spirit will allow one to access logical thinkable solutions to most of one's own problems. Thus we should look to ourselves before judging others. We must then react accordingly to the threat that will constantly face us for each new day. Live and let live? I disagree. Some people must be destroyed to protect the children we have. Extremists form armies for their own selfish purposes to eradicate a peaceful world and let the chaotic universe thrive. I donot believe in a chaotic universe, but I do believe there are many things that cannot be predicted. Thusly, we should mentally prepare ourselves to deal with great tragedy. To do this, I think we should have as many experiences as necessary on quality recreational time with our loved ones and friends. A good meal with good company can bring one hope and love when finding one's self stuck in the middle of terrible loss. Think back and remember the warm meal, jovial smiles, and light-hearted humor that once brightened your day. Only then will you know a little something of peace.

Whether or not world peace is trully possible in practice (or theory), we should never stop to strive and fight for it, or at least get as much closer to it as we can.

But if you start thinking that war saves resources by decreasing the human population, you have to ask how much is a life worth? Are the resources consumed by war greater or less than the resources saved? And what about the resources put into weapons that would be used for war?

As much as i would like there to be world peace i'm affraid there is just one way to make this happen.
Total controle. Once one country become so powerful, in economical, cultural and miltary sense world peace will happen.
As much as it has become popular to talk about human right and achiving world peace in the last few decades, we are not like that. Its in human nature to fight to have more. Its our primitiv/animal aspect of our subconciusnes to make us do thing we say we are againts.
If you ask anibody if he would like that his country go to war with another one, he will say no without thinking. But if you assure him that this war will bring more money to his country giving him and his children better and more secure future, he will think twice before standing behind his pacifistic ideals.
Fighting and killing are bad things, but in the same time they are one of our most basilar natural instincts, and will only stop once we have no means to fight with.

World Peace would be possible to construct, but impossible to maintain. Human greed will always force conflict.
