I like the arrangement in HOMM4 better, where the two of them are in enemy towns (academy vs. preserve).
If I remember correctly, the griffins were in very early christian tradition considered personifications of the devil, which would make them the enemies of the angels. In the early Middle Ages, however, the griffin became a symbol of glory and was accepted to act as a symbol in some aspects of the religion.
Three creatures in HOMM3 carried weapons that do not appear in any form (creature weapon or artifact) in HOMM4. Which weapons and what creatures carried them?

Dungeon or conflux ... two shoters the dragons can attack two stacks, and the dragons cost sulfur
conflux ... two shoters the phoenixes can attack two stacks , and the phoenixes cost mercury

oops rampart hasnt got 2 shooters(but the elves could bw worth 2).
Oki my best question: which creature u MUST HAVE in ur army to eventually make a draw.(i mean everyone dies);dont know what will happ aftar never tested and its very improbable to happ .
BTW wraith was the answer to my last q

oops Sorry I meant UNupgraded 7 lvl creature cost recource. Of course, because all upgraded 7 lvl cost recource. Firebirds don't.

Supposing no spells used, it can be Efreet Sultan in your or enemy army. Or Magog with Sniper Bow. Or Faerie Dragon.
BTW I saw creature dying from fire shield and Efreet retailating to corpse!

ya efreet sultan was the main answer(dunno if magog or faerie).but what about this: a harpy hag in a moat(it goes killes the last creature comes back in the moat and dies)

Guess the creature.
It switched from longbows in Heroes 2 to Crossbows in Heroes 3, and it lost 50 years off its age in the H1-H2 transition.

I'll repeat the question that wasn't answered.
