Well I'm not sure, but is you consider them a group and you talk about armagendon's blade and you say the phoenix is near, I think you talk about the elementals creatures, and if you refear to a one creature they must be the fire elementals

Good job Lord Crusader. You were right. I hope I'm not the only one who thought the elementals looked downright weak in HOMM4. I mean come on, the earth elemental for one is nothing but a smiling statue head rolling along on a pile of rocks, the water elemental looks like my toilet when it starts acting up. The air elemental is really the only one that didn't change much and actually looks halfway decent. 
The 'mighty' earth elemental
Oh boy. Everyone run for cover. A toilet water wave.
This flamer is a disgrace to Hexa and the rest of the fire elementals.

I think that is also the wight and wraith (ghost) that changed to a flying skeleton
To the experts:
What creature changed weapons from Heroes 2 to Heroes 3, and then changed sides in both transitions from H2 to H3, and then H3 to H4?

No, the dwarves did not really change sides from HOMM2 to HOMM3, since Sorceress and Rampart are almost alike. I would say the centaur.
Changed from bow in HOMM2 to spear in HOMM3 and 4.
HOMM2 --> HOMM3 Changed from Warlock to Rampart (= more or less sorceress).
HOMM3 --> HOMM4 Changed from Rampart to Stronghold
I have another riddle-like one. This one a bit harder.
Stick to mace to none

Well, I don't think your theory fits the riddle very well... what are the first 2 lines, the blade and my king bit about?

Just to eliminate confusion, it is a creature (I'm not telling from which version). But you are on the right track when thinking about the campaigns.

Air: a statue made of grey mud
Fire: a pokemon
Water: a tripple condom  .

Well... then lets look over the homm3 elementals, shall we ?
Water Elemental - ugly mermaid,teal fish hybrid (I don't see anything similar to a water (exept, when they die).
Fire Elemental - "Flame on !" as it would be told by Human torch form "The fantastic four".
Air Elemental - Since when air is white and dies in to white powder ?
Earth Elemental - Slow, grey and annoying pile of walikng earth.
IMO H4 elementals looks more like elements, than in heroes 3 !
