I hate to dissapoint you, but Country Kerry is in Ireland, not Britain, the guy is a Irish ex priest, we can't get the blame for that one He resigned first, then returned, only to be sacked by the church for refusing to stop preaching his end of the world theories. Along the way they tried to get him to have phsychiatric (or however it's spelt) treatment also.
Its hardly gonna disappoint me wen im English

[quoteI saw that competition [high bar] and the Russian gymnast's routine was simply amazing. His only flaw was a bit of a step on his dismount and it was no worse than any mistake made by either of the previous gymnasts.
I used to do gymnastics. I don't know the specifics of Olympic judgeing, but I know generally how it's done. The technical score, which is WHAT they did should result in exactly the same score from every judge. The only subjective part for the technical score is if there is a question about whether the move was actually done properly or not. For example a hold which must be held for 3 seconds and is only held for 2 3/4 seconds. The judges aren't using a stopwatch and some judges might give credit and others not. I remember one of the Americans who got a major deduction on rings because he didn't hold either a plange or a maltese cross long enough.
The other part of the score is how well they did the routine. There is a range of deductions for a specific flaw. A flaw may have a deduction of .1-.3 points. It's a judgment call how bad the flaw was and how much the actual deduction is. The judges should be well trained about what constitutes a .1 deduction or a .3 deduction and given specific examples, but there's still a grey area.
Gymnastics is about total body control. That means literally every single muscle in the body is under control. There's a lot going on that the average person might not notice. And the judges don't always notice either. When the gymnast is flying around the high bar doing a complicated trick, the judge might not notice that little flip of the foot which is supposed to be pointed.
The way routines are scored are constantly changing. The trend for years was toward extremely difficult moves. As a result the execution suffered and the routines stated getting sloppy. This Olympics it appears they have addressed that issue. Overall the scores are lower than in the past, but in my opinion the routines are better. I suspect they cracked down on judges overlooking minor flaws just because it was an extremely difficult move. The gymnasts know this and worked more on their execution.
As for a little step on the dismount, that's actually a pretty major flaw. That's just the way gymnastics is. Gymnasts are trained from the time they start to "stick it". Not just on dismounts, but anytime there is a transition from moving to a hold. If I remember right when I competed, a step on the dismount was something like .3-.5 point deduction.

Back to normal those so called TV programming.
Excuse my wording, but Iraq and their soccer team might be a chance in the 2006 world cup. if they can almost get a medal, they could soon be a world soccer superpower. Germany awaits these Iraqi players, they may be more experienced by then.
