First impressions of H5
http://www.mightandmagicgame.com/teaser/uk/index.php
Wow! Generally I like the screenshots. Its nearly enough the kind of realism I was expecting (although I aimed it to be less fairy-like, I'm perfectly fine with it).
The environment is excellent, proves that they've put a great deal of effort on it. What I dont like are the freakin mushrooms. They are too big and too colorful, like exxtasy pills lying arround. No mushroom look like that in reality, even if so oversaturated. Note, its not an innocent detail as it seems, since I imagine a whole bunch of cute-happy cookies like that surprising you on every step.
The hero is perfect, and the banner as well. I can notice that the pic with the hero is in fact the adventure screen, meaning that players will have an absolutely free movement of camera along all the axes, which rocks.
Now, the creatures. Ever since that flying lady with overdimensionalized dildo got out as concept art, I was thinking wtf.. But now seeing that they made it the actual creature, I cant help but wonder where they drew their inspiration for creatures from. Manga, maybe...
The other major creature (the one that fights the "angel") I pray its not a devil, but judging by the honour they made to that poor imp in armours (to fight the dildo lady), I guess its exactly that.
The hell hound with fiery back seems fine. The Nightmare is here. I like him enough. Now, the Gothic chic looks like a Succubus to me. 1 Word: Finally!! Theres also another demon chic in the concept art (when you sign up at the Ubi forum, on the left side), which also looks sexy. And finally one unidentified winged creature on the demons pic. Have no idea what it is.
Oh yeah ,another good news - Kreegans are back!!!
Overall: H5 gets a 4- from me.

Looks like Warcraft.
Well Now We Know It's 3D.
So much for the non-childish look.

Right up my street then.
And I must say that I'm pretty impressed with the stills that we've seen. Everything looks nice and twinkly and the 3D has been handled better than I gave Ubi credit for.
Now I want to see a trailer video, and the animation - how smooth it is.
And I want to see the battle screen, if there is a separate one.
I'm choosing to assume that screenshots 1,3 and 4 are of the adventure map, while number 2 seems to be like a display picture for the Demon's town, showing off it's various creatures.
Not all of it's creatures I hope, I only count a max of 5 types, and one of them might be a hero!
And yes Svarog, I wholeheartedly agree with you when I say FINALLY the Demons get their succubus.
However I know have a few questions.
If what we're seeing is the adventure map - is that Angel a Creature of a Hero?
Is the big dude in the forefront of the Demon's screenshot a Hero or Creature? We seem to have a battle scene between the Angel and what I assume is a Demoniac type hero?
So will some hero types be depicted as mounted, and some on foot? (Getting very warc-crafty here)
From the final screenshot with the sprite in it, I'm inferring that we're looking at the adventure screen, and the single fiery-backed demon (looking slightly less imposing than the concept art) is a stack as per usual.
Early 2006 eh? So this time next year it'll be the Heroes 6 Altar?

My first impression is that they haven't yet told us anything that we didn't already know, except for the screenshots.
It is odd that everybody claims gameplay comes before graphics but at the first sighting of screenshots so many people forget about everything but graphics. I understand the screenshots are the only new news here, but reading thru the official H5 forum most of the posters said the game will suck because of the graphics, and several people on this board too. What happened to waiting to see how the gameplay turns out?

Guys
You have to remember certain things:::
we know nothing of the screenshots.. they can be some kind of screenshots taken from campaign movies.. or just a camera view of the heroes world.. Im pretty sure that ubisoft isnt stupid. Okay they want something fresh.. but they want to have it still like heroes. Town screen is important.. its what makes homm quite different from other games. so is combat. Some of those pictures arent realistic.. I couldnt imagine moving my units by movement points with those graphics.. of attack someone. im pretty sure there will be a "from up above camera" with maybe different graphics and stuff. So so far so good. Atleast theyre doing the game.
-Gameplay is the most important. how do the spells work etc etc.
-music
-creatures
-balance
-COMPUTER A.I
-combat engine /screen.
the only thing that concerns me is that Nival interactive wont make it too much like etherlords.. although i want a new touch, and new things. I still want it to be heroes- the game that we all love.

One of hte main elements i wish is it to be like H3 in a sense, 5-7 Creatures, all of the same type (no more inferno/necropolis mixes and all that snow) with each having its own upgrade.

Well, after one day to cool down the joy - this thought came to me, too.
Let's hope, we err..
But I guess, you're right with that the screens do not yet tell so much but I guess we can't do more than wait (again)..

Etherlords & Warcraft .. I mean when I first saw the pics I said yes it's etherlords alright. Let's just hope that it will still have classic HOMM features (not only in battles but throughout the game). Everyone may kiss goodbye the Homm II, III style yet the screenshots are quite promising..At least I hope this is better than HOMM IV. The inferno units are excellent, the hero with his banner and the neutral army looked great in the adventure map I liked the outfit (the hood) of the angel but I believe it's what Svarog said "Dildo lady"...
From 1 (worst) to 5 I give a 3++

Well duh on the Etherlords bit. The game is being made by Nival, after all! Hopefully they won't employ a TCG system for spellcasting >_>

HOMM V
Sorry but this series was nailed with HOMM III. If NWC had stuck with that game and spent it's development resources on improving and enhancing that basic model, they'd still be making money. HOMM IV was dismal and I see no reason V should be any different, but it's way too early to tell.

yah fo ubisoft
the graphics are kust right to me but i have a problem sorta. lets assume that pic 1 and 4 are adventure pics, then will we have to remember the whole map. this may pave the way for more depth in that hills must be used when found to look over an area, but on an XL map it would get crazy
beside from that the game looks to be great

It Sounds Like...
So many people are saying it looks like WarCraftIII. I think fans want the "chess-feel". It is interesting considering that the released statement calls it a more "mature" game. But here we see fans clearly calling it "childish".
I think some people would agree that there are enough games of this type(Everquest/WarcraftIII/World of Warcraft/Ether) on market to make a clear relation to this type of graphics engine. In fact the engine may be very different from other engines but the outcome looks very similar regardless of the differences in programming.
The real question is whether the future makers of the HOMM series can recognize the large group of fans that have been asking for a more 'chess-like feel' to their online fantasy gaming. The graphics could theoretically look like any number of different styles as long as they hold true to the core requests of the fans. I think they want strategy combined with fantasy. I think the story should be told by the victor; as it were. And it is clear that they want it turn-based.

They're all crawling out of the woodwork now eh?
I still don't see any problems that inherently derive from graphics guys.
Times change and games technology moves on.
As long as the fundamental elements that make a Heroes game are there, then why should graphics be such a sore point.
Personally I'm excited now that we're seeing that while all the speculation has been going on, that Ubi have actually been beavering away and making the game.
While early 2006 is a bit of a drag - effectively a year away; we now have a rough deadline and a homepage to check for news, screenshots etc and we'll be better informed in the coming months about the game, and will have way more to discuss than which creatures we want to see.
What I'm taking away from the screenshots, and the HOMM V banner is that the Kreegans will be the main storyline villains this time round.

Back to HOMMIII Ethos?
If you notice, the Inferno town would appear to be back to its old self. I mean to say that they didn't merge towns the way they did in HOMMIV. In that game they basically put all the good guys in one city and all the bad guys in another city. HOMMIII had something like 9 seperate town types while HOMMIV had something like 5 right? Perhaps they've gone back to having more HOMMIII influence as far as town types.
I'm guessing they've made the distinction if they have indeed looked at the WarcraftIII popularity. Even in that game, which only has 4 races to play, you can clearly see the troops are very much a part of the race they represent. I had always personally felt that Undead Vampires and Arch Devils shouldn't be in the same town. I think this bodes well for the games' potential popularity.
